I found the video. It’s on UA-cam titled “Republicans Kill Free School Lunch Bill” by “More Perfect Union.” It appears as a UA-cam short, but shows the clip where republican Sen. Mike Wobbema refers to “personal responsibility” so not only is a fetus a child, but a child is also an adult.

"All of the children in the womb just lost all of their human rights......." Strange perspective, given the US is _the only country in the world_ which continues to refuse to ratify the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children in the US don't have the same human rights as children in the rest of the world. With among the highest rates of child poverty in the OECD and the highest rates of both child and maternal mortality in the developed world, it's very hard to take the US "pro-life" proponents seriously.

I'm sure Matt didn't just point out that every time the left brings up The Fringe cases to justify abortion but it is not in any way about The Fringe cases. The Fringe cases are just used to justify the wholesale Slaughter of millions of babies. And that if it comes down to it we will happily force a 13-year-old to have a rapists baby (ever heard of the sins of the father not being the sins of the Son? 1) i have had two abortions. One due to rape, one due to a mess up in birth control. 2) i have zero regret. I was in college for bot, and could not imagine my life with a child then or now. 3) when i was raped, the trauma was intense. I dislike sex and being touched now, even after 20 years of therapy. The experience of waking up and puking because someone harmed me, and left his monster inside of me…i would literally have killed myself if i had been forced to carey to term. Cause he left himself inside me, it was using me to live. It was being raped again and again. I was able to terminate quickly, and start to heal as best as i could.
      4) the failed birt control happened my first year in college. I was 19, and worked to put myself theough school as an oil rig diver in the summer for the marine mammal protection division of NMFS. You cannot dive when you are pregnant, so i would have had to stoo my job, which funded my schooling. Being pregnant is really hard in competitive schools, so i likely would have dropped out. Other than diving i had no skills, so would have been a low income earner. Which would have meant needing federal or state support for the fetus and me. On the other hand, now i contribute significant funds in taxes, bck to the state.
“Keep your legs closed”. Ive never had a child. Do not want one. I am in a loving relationship, and despite my trauma, so have sex. So should we NOT have sex in our now 20 year long marriage? Really? And if, t 47, i were to get pregnant, i would abort again, cause its not very safe for me or the fetus when you are that old, but we still have some wacky, badly for,ed eggs, that can get fertalized.
So take your “its all a woman’s fault cause she had sex” and shove it. Women are not incubators. We are the first and only consideration in our own lives, unless and until that woman elects to put others first.

If a physical connection is required for a living organism to survive, then it is the decision of the "host" to keep it or to remove said connection.
The death of said living organism is effectively just collateral damage.
You shouldn't be forced to let your body being used as a life support system. it ought to be your choice.
I worded it this way because a fetus is very similar to a parasite when you think about it.
I personally only grant said fetus "human rights" once they are able to survive on their own without said connection to the "host".
Before that point, the only rights the fetus has is the rights the "host" gives them.

You also have a recently deceased person that had this organ perfectly functioning and is capable of saving this person's life, but oh look: Not an organ donor. There is nothing the hospital can do to take this dead person's organ to save a living one because that dead person did not give them consent to take it.
That dead person has more bodily autonomy than what "pro-lifers" are trying to allow for LIVING women. Banning abortions would mean that a women, once she conceives a child, now has less rights to her own organs than a dead corpse!

The pro-choice side can use the same emotional tactics as the force birth side. Forced birthers, if true to their side, will fully ban abortion procedures not unlike the actual Catholic stance. The only abortions they wouldn't be able to criminalize are the spontaneous ones, aka miscarriage. The side's rhetoric would rather sacrifice the mother, "the ultimate act of love" they'd say, instead of saving them so they can try again.
This is why forced birthers haven't looked into first extending measures to fetuses to ensure they get full treatment as a born human would. The religious roots of their side, often derived from the Catholic stance, don't allow it. Fetuses don't have social security numbers, they often won't get funerary rights, pregnant woman aren't considered as 2 people where something like that would matter, and this goes on and on.
And this ignores the rest of their side's politics in regards to children after they're born. They don't support extending maternity or paternity leave, making it paid (even if reduced), making baby products free up to some amount of years, and more. In some areas, they're even regressing by trying to bring back child labor!

I mean, there _are_ equivalent extreme phrasings pro-choicers could use: "women-sacrificers" or "mother-sacrificers".
Evidence shows that criminalising abortion does not decrease the rate at which it happens, it simply forces women towards unsafe options. Additionally, even when there are exceptions in abortion bans, often-times for the legal safety of the doctor, the mother's survival has to be put at risk before those exceptions can be taken. Even further, the age of the mother is regularly not taken into account in these bans, which as we all know has resulted in children under the age of 13 having to relocate to places where there are no such bans to receive the medical treatment that will almost certainly save their life.
The maternal mortality rate in the US has been going up as these evil women-sacrificing fetal fetishists consistently pretend women are baby-making machines rather than people. According to the CDC, the maternal mortality rate in 2019 in the US was 20.1 per 100k. In 2020 it was 23.8 per 100k. In 2021 it was 32.9 per 100k. The evidence indicates that through the 90s it was stable at 12 per 100k, and it's been steadily increasing since the year 2000, but particularly since 2010.
By comparison the maternal mortality rate in Canada is arouind 11 per 100k, across the EU is around 8 per 100k, in Australia it's around 5.6 per 100k.
The US is 2-6 times more likely to kill a mother than most other developed nations, mainly thanks to a lack of affordable healthcare and the restricted access to abortion - both of which come down to these women-sacrificing lunatics.

I think it's the exact opposite from Walsh. I think that stringent views on abortions are the exact reason Republicans have been struggling as much as they have. Besides their general religious dogmatism, there are plenty of issues where they've got some punch, but it doesn't matter because most sane people don't want to despair over possibly ruining their lives once a month when either their period or their partner's period is about to show up. I think that if Republicans stopped dying on the abortion hill, there wouldn't be so many people closer to the center who simply won't vote for a Republican because they know that the abortion ban noose is going to tighten as soon as they have any power.

This entire abortion debate is honestly little more than a knee-jerk political talking point. It's a non-issue made into a mountain of an issue to rally people based on the appeal to emotion. I've seen the arguments against abortion. It's either pictures of little babies with sweet smiles as if that's what's in the womb at 10 weeks, or something about God and the sanctity of life (which isn't based in the Bible at all since God either kills, or orders the killing of. plenty of babies and pregnant mothers. Plus there's that whole induced miscarriage bit in Numbers).
And that's it. God or "but look at this cute baby you're killing". Try to explain things like diseases or other physical issues that arise in pregnancies that can harm, kill, or give a woman a lifelong disability if an abortion is denied and there are no humanitarian thoughts for her. Ask about support for women denied abortions to care for their newborns and that sort of "free handout by the government" is just laughed at. Human rights and the welfare of life are only for the fetus and stops at birth, apparently.

Well most likely the reactions you will get is people desperately trying to climb that the clump of cells isn't a person, that sort of rhetoric. Because they have to try to dehumanize the baby in order to even try justifying what they are pushing for

*So, **_all_** non-sentient fetuses you consider a person?*
"I would try to dehumanize the babies as well because that would be the only way I could sleep at night supporting this"
*Nobody is dehumanizing things. Putting words in other people's mouths sure seems to be a tactic you right-wings love, though.*
*Personhood is not the same thing as being human. A brain-dead body, for example, being kept alive with machines is no longer a person. A non-sentient fetus is not a person. A corpse is not a person.*
*They are all human... but they are not persons.*
*This is not rocket science. And I have no trouble sleeping while fully supporting abortion. In fact, I don't know how you can sleep at night while defending turning women back into property.*
