Simon and Garfunkel released the song back in 1966. You can't knock the original where the power of the song is off of the lyrics. The opening line "Hello darkness my old friend" was from Simon. He said whenever he can't sleep because stuff would bother him, he would sit in the bathroom with the lights out in the middle of the night with his guitar and just think. The song is about how we can go about every day and buy coffee from the person behind the counter for years but yet never know their story because in big cities compared to small towns, people lose that intimate connection. When he said "tenement walls", tenements were the original projects in the ghetto. Large, tightly packed buildings that immigrants and lower income families lived. "The neon god they pray" was the bright lights of the big city and/or TVs. It's funny how 60 years ago they described the future now. How we greet each other with "Hey, how's it going?" but yet have no expectation of them actually telling you how they're doing. Or how two people can sit across from each other at a diner table and both will be on their phones (the new neon god) and not actually talking to each other. Because of how deep and creative the message is, I have to always give it to the people who originally came up with the lyrics.
🙏🙏🙏
Why is it a competition? Why either/or? They are both magnificent in their own right.
Another good one. The Simon & Garfunkel one is indeed the original. I like both but I enjoy the original more, I love the harmony and how their voices fit perfectly together.
Thanks for listening
Agreed. Well said. 😊
These guys always do great cover songs. David can sing anything.
Disturbed has my vote hands down. Disturbed has a live version of this song on Conan O'brian
Thin Lizzy(original) and Metallica doing "Whiskey in the Jar." And Lynyrd Skynyrd (original) and Shinedown doing "Simple Man."
You were right about the song being about the danger of not communicating. When Paul simon wrote this song in the 60 the world was in the middle of the cold war when half the world wasn't allowed to communicate with the other half and in 1962 the cuban missile crisis was the closest the world came to all out nuclear war. In the communist countries people could be sent to prison for listening to western music which was all banned. Paul simon is a powerful songwriter and simon and grafunkle harmonies are spine tingling. i think you would like the Boxer . Also the best two for tuesday you could do would be When the levee breaks the led zeppelin version from the 1970s ( which in itself was a cover of a blues song from 1927 about the missisippi flood but which became the definitive version) and then the Playing for change version from 50 years later .this is a collaboration of world musicians but includes John Paul Jones teh bass player from led zep. This song is nearly 100 years old but is truly powerful.
Another Simon and Garfunkel that was covered is Hazy Shade of Winter covered by the Bangles. Another good set is Faith originally by George Michael and covered by Limp Bizkit.
🙏🙏🙏
Good one !!
Agreed: why is it a competition? Why either/or? They are both magnificent in their own right, for their own times and beyond.
Don’t over analyze, it’s just the purpose of the series. Obviously they’re both great but it’s not to knock the other of it beauty. Just a simple compare and contrast.
@@StaxReacts Sorry, I wasn't directing that to you, but to others in general. You had already pretty much said that.
Right.
But both had different meanings, to different generations.
@@robbob5302 I think the ultimate meaning is the same, but yes, the context and the emotion are different to the different times.
Wait till you hear more from Disturbed! David's vocals in this are absolutely mild to their normal stuff. As a matter of fact, that track almost didn't get made. They had two days left in the studio, but they finished the rest of the album a day early. The band thought they would be back the next day to maybe clean up some tracks, and to lay this one down. The band broke out the beer, and Dave took a HUUUUUGE rip off a bong. As he was coughing his ass off, the producer comes in and says "The album is perfect! Let's do the cover now, and we'll get our money back for tomorrow!" Dave was worried that he sounded like shit, but... Classic.
Looking forward to a weird al Wednesday
🙏🙏🙏
@@StaxReacts This is ALso a good suggestion!
Two for Tuesday suggestion The night the lights went out in Georgia the original is Vicki Lawrence the cover is Reba McEntire
🙏🙏🙏
I mentioned it in the live chat, but you have to check out the live version from Disturbed. It's the one from 3/28/16 on the Conan TBS show. It will blow you away. It has 147 million views. It's great.
Yeah, epic video!
🙏🙏🙏
Ooh, I have a good one for you: KC and the Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogie Man vs Rob Zombie's version!
Hell yeah! Zombie knows how to do a unique cover.
Ive been looking forward to this reaction, cant wait 😊😊😊
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@StaxReacts loved it of course ❤️🔥
Another 2 fer Tuesday would be..Tuesdays Gone by Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
Bringing this next week
@@StaxReacts Yay
This is the second version that Simon and Garfunkel released. They originally recorded it as an acoustic version, which was quieter and more sublime. The drums and electric guitar were mixed in for a rerelease a year later and became a hit. I do like both S&G versions more than the Disturbed version, which is okay.
Original is here:
ua-cam.com/video/l0q7MLPo-u8/v-deo.htmlsi=fDlLvtyc7qBh2-R6
If you visit Disturbed, you cannot miss 10000 Fists...🔥🔥🔥
You should always do the original first. 😊
That's the plan!
Great reaction!
Thank you
Simon and Garfunkel are geniuses. I love this song, however I will say I prefer the Disturbed version. I feel the slower paced and darker version does more justice to the seriousness of the lyrics.
🔥🙏
You should check out the cover by Bobaflex! I like it better than Disturbed. Bobaflex covered it before Disturbed and they don’t get the credit they deserve. They do some great vocal harmonies. I’d like to hear your take on it
I got a great two for tuesday nothing compares to you by sinade o conner versus chris cornells version but the song was actually written by prince for sinade
🙏🔥💪🏽
Creative!
🙏🙏
Fantastic reaction Stax 🔥 Both songs are Amazing 🔥🔥🔥
🤘🏽🔥💙
No contest for me. The original.
I'd really like to see you do something with "Weird Al" Yankovic. Like "RIdin' Dirty" and "White 'N Nerdy" Its built for Two For Tuesday.
Betyyy
Not sure if I had suggested this one. Jungle - "Back On 74" (is the original track). Ren - "Back on 74 retake"
🙏🙏🙏
Maybe Stax /should/ do the cover first. It's an interesting & different approach. 😁
Great suggestion!
@@StaxReacts It's different and different is good.
You should definitely do Simple Man. Original by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Shinedown did a cover of it that is absolutely amazing. It’s not just a cover though, it’s a tribute. The two bands have history together. You should definitely check it out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
🤘🏽🤘🏽🔥🔥
ill give S&G credit for writing good lyrics, but the nicest thing i can say about their performance is that it's goofy af. Disturbed's version is way better.
metallica has done a few covers too btw. such as Whiskey in the Jar, and Turn the Page.
Hey Stax
YOOOO
not even close --- disturbed so much better ..
Haha a shame you choose the order. The disturbed one is way more powerful and of course because it wasn't written like 60 years ago the quality is way better. But ya can't argue with the original especially because they wrote it in the first place and ye.....like 60 years ago lol😅
🙏🙏🙏
Should've listened to the original first...
🙏🙏🙏
You totally did it backwards. You should have done the original first.
Forget that disturbed even exist ( they suck) more simon and garfunkel
The disturbed one stinks big time and diminishes the message.. The OG is the way to go
🙏🙏🙏
