Funny how the german scientist is talking about making übermensch and the asian scientist is talking about making giant robots
somethings never change
@@Ghostx357 we like giant robot with giant drills on it.(*´∇`*)
This has never occurred to me before…

"What is it, Doctor?"
"Can we use it against aliens?"
"CLOSE RANGE?!"

Doctor Vahlen Answering Bradford in A Nutshell
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
“IMPORTANTLY SCIENTIFICLY POSITIVLY YES.”
EU Dr. Shen: The floaters are an abomination, combining flesh with machine.
EW Dr. Shen: We can now turn our soldiers into cyborgs! Begin the amputations!
rofl
I suppose the difference is that with the MEC troopers, only the soldier's limbs are replaced, meaning that at least in theory it's not too dissimilar to advanced prosthetics... albeit using them here to augment a person rather than merely replicate the original human limbs... Whereas with the Floaters, their body and brain are gutted and much of it replaced with technology for the purposes of turning once intelligent beings into mindless killing machines, with practically nothing of the original creature remaining.
It's all a question of where you choose to draw the line...
***** yeah, kinda like the symbiotes on the stargate series, one asks permission of the host before inhabiting them while the other takes them regardless of persmission.

I would say they are most similar to the Quake 4 enemy Strogg known as the "Scientist"
In a war where the aliens have done much worse to the human population, you need to resort to the extremes to gain whatever advantage possible.
Nanomachines, son.
Metal .... Gear?

"Bellator in Machina" = Warrior in Machine
"Mutare ad Custodiam" = Change to Protect
can i know what xcom motto is? that vigilo confido something something
*****
The two verbs are "To watch/To be vigilant" and "To trust/believe".
So, translations I've heard people use:
"I am watchful, I am relied upon."
"I watch, I believe"
"Be vigilant. Have confidence."
"I am Watchful and I am Trustworthy."
"My vigilance is necessary."
My personal choice is just "Vigilant, Confident."
Like how most military mottos tend to be intended to be simple translations: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_unit_mottoes_by_country
Also, this: www.fimfiction.net/story/62142/1/xcom-equestria-unknown/chapter-1
_"One step in the wrong direction and suddenly ten gigantic alien war robots will step out of nowhere and blow your head up. Remember the XCOM motto.” He patted the inscribed badge on his chest. “Vigilo confido!”_
_“What does that mean anyway?” Hooty McOwlyface waddled off the ramp last, and to Hunt’s annoyance he saw that she was carrying her sniper rifle by the end of the barrel._
_“It means… it means…” He shook his head. “It means… that’s XCOM, baby!”_
_“YEAH!” They all shouted in unison._
OH WOW XCOM FANFICTION MUST READ!!!
*****
I understand if you may be hesitant after clicking and seeing the header bar of that particular website. I'm sure you can understand that the story linked was a just-for-funsies fic to make fun of Enemy Unknown, so, here: let me reccomend a really good one: www.fimfiction.net/story/100455/stardust
No, seriously, I highly recommend this one. Here, let this picture set the tone:
foxinshadow.deviantart.com/art/Interrogate-Twilight-Sparkle-396890323
And just to point out the title:
INTERROGATE. TWILIGHT. SPARKLE.
This reply may be a bit late, but Vigilo Confido roughly means 'I am watchful. I am relied upon.'
Edit: Someone else posted a reply to this but I didn't read 'em prior to posting this, so pardon me if this was redundant. XD
this cut-scene signifies the turning point in the game where I made those aliens my bitches.
Lol got to get that meld no matter what! XD
Same it was that way. Until the sectopods came...
PappaMC I hated sectopods so much in Enemy within. I was playing on a hard difficulty it was fucked when there were a lot of aliens over the map and a sectoid.
Arstotzka Empire I had the pleasure to fight 3 at one time in one hallway and my squad was splitted, I managed to destroy all three with my S.H.I.V (which sacrificed itself to protect my heavy who nearly died) my heavy who I tried to bring in better cover (he nearly died cuz low health and...well sectopod overwatch) , my sniper and my assault class who assisted with that telecinetic field.
and my mec....well he stood in the other Hallway not seeing those 3 sectopods together with my another assault class which I accidently brought with to the Mission instead of my medic....
Now try impossible difficulty. It's not uncommon to see 4 Sectapods.
So Cyborgs and Thunder Warriors. Awesome.
+Cosmic Mind Shame we can't combine the two. Or else we have Dreadnoughts.
@@zchen27 I dont think you would want to do that those gene mod soldiers are too expensive to be used on dreadnoughts.
"Okay Doctor, what if we try snorting it?"
What you've got here is two scientists talking about science, if you think about it it's pretty droll but the music, makes it frickin awesome!
Anyone else get goosebumps at this cut scene?
It's because we know that the real fun is about to begin.
wesleyfilms
More like the real battle.
Imagine if a soldeir have both roads. Plus psi power
Gene Mods makes cyerbernetics sort of redundant. I usually give my gene mod soldiers the ultimate package. Meld enhancements plus Psionics.
@@jonharper4478 MECs are better for the early game, getting a soldier with a bunch of helpful gen mods takes time and psionics aren't available at that point, but if you assemble a team of these soldiers they're amazing. I did that in my second playthrough, used Annette Durand with her 100 willpower points as leader and "lead by example" to share her stat with nearby squad mates, they could mind control ethereals reliably.
WHAT IS MELD
ALIEN DON'T HURT ME
And then it was never mentioned again in subsequent games or books...
Probably because in the 'actual' story this scene never happened. This was all part of the simulation in the Commander's mind.
Iunno, if my enemies start causing skull shaped mushroom clouds, I'd get the fuck off that planet pretty quickly.
Three EXALT operatives disliked this video.
These really were exceptional. The woven narrative of Xcom is really something else
That this technology vanished into thin air in xcom2 was disappointing
The Avenger doesn’t seem to have the capability to support such facilities and both Dr Shen and Dr Vahlen were absent, one being dead and the other gone. XCOM seems to have simply lost the abilities to use meld effectively. The aliens still seem to have it, considering how altered the Aliens and the Hybrid Troopers are.
I heard that Enemy Within was non-canon but Enemy Unknown was. Early on, Tygan reveals that ADVENT used the Commander as an organic processor for virtual reality war games in order to improve the effectiveness of the Hybrid clones. Perhaps Enemy Within was the simulation the Commander was in, with gene-modded soldiers based on the Hybrids and MEC troopers based on the fully robotic versions ADVENT used.
@@ShawndaPrawn I thought the developers said that XCOM 2 is the what-if scenario of the commander/xcom losing the base defend mission in Enemy Within? And in regards to the simulations, it is more like the aliens are interested in studying the commander's mind because the commander in the lore is such a prodigy that the aliens want to incorporate the commander's skills to improve their own tactics.
@@lesterabinguna341 Yup. XCOM 2 is aliens just decided to rush Xcom headquarters before they even invent scopes.
I always thought MEC Troopers were a means to an end that basically sealed your victory, at least until I discovered Gene-Modded soldiers were vastly superior in the multiplayer sense...
MECs were redundant heavy clones.
mecs were good great even and really fun!
But I always prefered gene mods since they add to the already reliable cast, awesoome but inconvenient at times vs mundane but reliable
I have always done both.
god, this game was lightning in a bottle
Personal theory: This never happened, and was actually the beginning of the aliens using the Commander for wargames. MELD is never mentioned in XCOM 2, but it would be a useful device to explain (narratively) to the Commander in his environment suit, why he was suddenly commanding mechs and humans that could punch through walls.
Unfortunately that’s incorrect, canon dictates that XCOM collapsed in July 2015 (started in March) that’s 4 months of canon game time. Plus there’s also the fact the Advent mechs wouldn’t have existed without research that XCOM used to develop their own mechs (mentioned in interview with game dev). So ultimately MELD would be used, how do you think the aliens so effectively incorporated human DNA into their Alien troops and vice versa for Advent?
ehh divergent timelines tbh
I am addicted to this cutscene I dont know why
What is it..... NANOMACHINES SON
The cut scene is nice.
Ethereal, don't hurt me...
It would be so fucking awesome to reboot this game if they can't think of a sequel for xcom3
