- Here is my review of an Obscure Tactical RPG released in Germany .. The Fall: Last Days of Gaia ..much love to the people who worked on the unofficial English translations ..thats why I'm able to review it...

"The Fall: Last Days Of Gaia is a role-playing video game that takes place in a post apocalyptic world. The game was developed by Silver Style Entertainment and published by Deep Silver in 2004.German Gothic Metal Band Darkseed wrote the song The Fall for the game, which was used on the trailer.
During the development, Silver Style Entertainment contracted the game designers Damien Folletto and Jeff Husges, ex-Black Isle Studios developers who worked before on Van Buren, the intended Fallout 3. In November 2004, the game was released in Germany and some other European countries but not in English-speaking countries. The release version was characterized by numerous game bugs, leading to a crash-prone game. Therefore, Silver Style released in April 2005 an Extended Version featuring bug fixes, reworked dialogs and improved sound quality.After finishing the Extended Version, Silver Style began work on an add-on, called The Fall - Mutant City, which should take place two years after the storyline of The Fall. Also, a sequel was announced, but both projects were never finished.
On July 31, 2006, a Reloaded version was released, which includes all previous patches and adds additional quests and reworked textures. An announced English language version was never released, hence an unofficial patch from the fan community exists which translates all texts from the German version to English."

Since im german i'm going to try my best to translate the 1st cutscene
I will be referring to the woman as W and her child as C
(It starts in that weird house)
C- mother it's storming outside
W- the storms can't harm us in here don't be afraid
C- im not afraid
W- i know you are brave my angel
C- what is being brave exactly?
W- thats a good question, humans that put themselves in danger for others are brave but also being honest can be brave
C- are all humans so brave as i?
W- not all but some are our leader for example
C- why is he so brave?
W- i don't know sometimes you must do things that you really don't want or you are scared of, you know, we have to thank our leader for many things don't forget that he was ready to give up his life for us
C- mom
W- yes?
C- tell me about our leader
(The camera zooms in her eye and shows the protag)
W- the story is already old our leader was only a simple wanderer one of the factions of the wastelands raided his town and killed all inhabitants also his mother
C- our leader doesn't have a mother?
W- no he doesn't, and he also didn't know were his father or sister were, he thought they fled the raiders and were wandering the wastes
C- so he was all alone?
W- yes he was all alone, and so he searched for people that would help him find his sister and father, one day he heard of people that called themselves the goverment of the new order they searched for fighters to defend themselves of the raiders
C- i know the men of the goverment they always patrol and take care
W- that was another goverment back then my angel.
In the past everything was more dangerous thats why the goverment wanted to make life safer and fight againts the raiders and our leader wanted to join them he wanted to find the people that raided his town and take revenge
C- and search for his father and sister
M- exactly, he knew he had a long and dangerous road ahead of him but our leader wasn't afraid, he was already very strong and brave, he walked much and he was hungry, and he was thirsty and the sun was burning his face but every journey no matter how long ends someday, and so he stood one day before the gate of the goverment of the new order.
(To make things clear i never played the game so i have no context and some things are a little bit difficult to translate from german) btw i suppose the woman is the sister of the protag

I'm always on the lookout for obscure or forgotten games .. thankfully one of my friends told me about this or I probably would have never found out about it

Jogging back the noggin now on some obscure gems. Thanks for reminding me this is definately a obscure game that I completely forgot about due to a lack of an official translation.
The fan translation does a pretty good job ..some typos and American slang Im sure wasnt in the official text but they did well .. Translation seems like a big pain in the ass .. i could never do it
one of my favorite games of all times, imo this is what Wasteland 2 should've been.
Can you elaborate on that ? I see that W2 is praised a lot compared to this game.
@@dabogabo W2 just suffers from a lot of poor design choices. like chance based skill checks and loot. UI in W2 is a mess and somehow they made it worse in W2DC. RPG mechanics suck in W2. lots of dead stats and useless skills. Difficulty is also extremely unbalanced. You have to minmax and powergame to play on SJ in W2 witch kinda takes away enjoyment from a roleplaying. Equipment in W2 sucks. you have 1 armor slot and 2 types of armor that have linear growing tiers, while The Fall has multiple equipment slots and set effects. Weapons are also done way better in TF:LDoG with nice details like character getting bonuses to using a certain weapon. You can even give a name to a gun in game. Also TF has a lot of utility skills and abilities tied to those skills, W2 don't have those. TF has fully implemented stealth, W2 don't. TF has vehicles, W2 don't. TF has crafting and it's not a boring "become OP" kind of crafting, but an optional roleplay element kind that adds to characters. in TF you can drop items on a floor and they will never disappear. Trading mechanics in TF is way better than W2. Side quests are fun and are not all tied to a combat like W2.

@@dabogabo idk. if you want beginner friendly game I recommend Divinity: Original Sin. it's a hard game even on easy, but it gives you a lot of tools to deal with problems creatively.
@@Zeon081 Ah, I'm already playing DOS2 with friends and we are doing fine. The Fort Joy prison is a hard start, but gets easily suddenly after Level 4.
What I meant was into the post apocalyptic rpg genre.
I remember buying an extra 256mb of ram because my pc couldn't handle it. It was the first time I've ever opened my cheap pre-build pc case. I just popped the ram in an it ran like a dream. I couldn't believe it was that easy. I've felt like a fucking pc pro
Felt the same say .. I used to use an old busted laptop that would get really hot playing Fallout .. THE OG one .. When I got a new laptop it felt like the heavens came down and changed my world ...gonna feel the same way once i finally build a brand new desktop ..we gotta enjoy the Small victories fam ..so sweet
One of the best games from my childhood, yet I've never finished it because I lost the savegames twice while reinstalling Windows. The music is unforgettable.
This unique genre is my favorite, same devs released Soldiers of anarchy which is very similar. I just wish there were more modern alternatives

English translations should be super easy these days given the availability of machine translation that is actually pretty good.
For my work, I regularly have to machine translate French or Italian to English. I use Google Translate. Not only can you always understand the translation pretty clearly, but the grammar is correct 95% of the time.
Maybe more undiscovered older games like this can be given the same treatment.

I cant make any guarantees but I dont really have any interest in diablo ..Maybe diablo 2 cause I did play that for a bit back in 2010 when I was a younger lad..only thing i remember is a barbarian with a shining silver suit of armor ...1 hour later!: I just looked it up ..it was the immortal king set

Great review, btw. I never even heard of this game, but since it was only released in Germany then I guess that would explain it. I do know that Josh Sawyer at Obsidian speaks German and is of German descent. The English language is related to the German language, so I think that does help with translating things back and forth. Its great that fans translated it. Its too bad the developers didn't have it in English back when it came out, because the English speaking market is a lot larger so the game could have been a lot more successful and well know if that were the case.

I tried to play it back then but didnt get much far, seemed rather dull and unploished
It def needed more polish ..even with the latest patch its rough and im someone usually more forgiving of bugs and lack of technical polish but even if I like something I cant deny the unpolish ... You ever play Fallout Tactics?
