      @@blavvyvr I'm sorry to hear that. Idk what happened to your eggs, but my female didn't even mate with our male. I was only being sure of infertility as I heard some rumors, at that time, that sometimes the female will get over protective and not let the male participate. I'm not sure if those were true, I was new to COCKATIEL eggs at that time, but not to hatching eggs (hope that makes sense.). My male has since mated with another female and they have had 2 clutches so far. I candled them both to ensure fertility and they hatched just fine. Best of luck to you.

      @@leeshalaithat's not entirely true birds actually do not have a very advanced sense of smell. It is just slightly better than our own but not by much. And even if they had issues with the smell of humans being around, these are birds in captivity and everything smells of humans, They share rooms with us so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter either way since if they could pick up on our scent it's around them every day being in our environment.

      Since cockatiels normally hatch their eggs together and take turns, it was becoming very unhealthy for her. She was barely eating or drinking & she was constantly stressed, trying to protect the eggs. So after confirming that the eggs were not fertile and talking to a couple breeders, we removed the eggs from her.
      Opposite from what i expected and what i have been warned of, she actually seemed relieved and immediately started binge eating and drinking. There are also some pretty strong signs that Sunny and Pika may have bonded or are in the process of bonding.
      And for the very first time, since we got her a year ago, she let me scratch her head and cuddle her! And then, to top that off, she's been letting us all scratch her head a few times since! Its like this whole experience has somehow proven to her that we love her and are trustworthy! Obviously she doesnt just trust us all the way and shes very picky about when and how we give her love, but its such a special break through! I was actually able to catch her first official scratches on camera & will be posting the video soon !! (sorry for the long reply lol)

    My girl layed 5 eggs and none of them had visible veins ...I left them in there till full term and 3 hatched and are alive and kicking...SO PEOPLE PLS LEAVE THE EGGS IN THERE FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS OR SO...IF THEY DONT HATCH , THEN DISCARD..but they're not all like this...

    • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  4 місяці тому

      The eggs won't have veins in the beginning. They develop over time. Very few people can determine fertility prior to 5 days into incubation. As the bird sits, the embryo will start to develop with steady heat (temp varies depending on species of bird). A spider like webbing of veins will start to develop, and after some time, if you know what you are looking for, you'll find the veins and a TINY heartbeat. The embryo will continue to grow and develop while the veins will spread over a large area within the egg. The egg will continue to become darker within as the chick grows... this happens with EVERY EGG! And yes, ALL BIRD EGGS WORK LIKE THIS... This is why i waited for over a week and candled a couple of times to confirm. If you know what you are doing, you can candle for life, as sitting on eggs that are dudds is very unhealthy for your bird. Also, she had no mate. Pikachu never mated her, and she was trying to hatch infertile eggs on her own... THEY STARVE THEMSELVES to hatch babies when they don't have a mate.
      I hatch eggs often and have done so for a long time. What you are recommending is not safe. No bird should be left to sit on eggs that will never hatch. Please do more research on this matter.

    PLS RESPOND TO MY COMMENT: basically i wake up in the morning to go to school I pour some food into my birds bowls and they usually get up to eat but my cockatiel didn’t get up so I thought that was unusually and I moved him over a little and I see three eggs under her but I thought it was a male there is no other male in the cage I have parakeets and I can’t tell if there fertil bc I checked them and there was like a little thing at the top of the egg idk what it means she had just had them so do I wait is that a good sign.

    • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  11 місяців тому

      I'm not sure if cockatiels can crossbreed with parakeets, but you won't see any life in fertile eggs for 3-7 days. During that time your female will starve herself and only eat once a day! Cockatiels mate for life and their partner helps them sit on eggs (they share the responsibility) so when 1 cockatiel is doing this alone, it can cause bad consequences. Usually each parent sits on the eggs for HALF of the day and eats & poops for the other half ... When they are alone they are holding their poop and not eating ALL DAY and often don't eat or only eat for 5 minutes before returning to the eggs .. that's dangerous for the bird. So, if you only have 1 cockatiel, chances of fertility are pretty much zero. I would get rid of the eggs next time she leaves the eggs to eat. If you Insist on waiting: I have no way of knowing what "little thing" you saw in the egg. Every egg has an egg yolk, egg white and an air bubble at the larger end. If after 3 days there are no veins (looks like a red spider almost or spider web in red streaks) the eggs are NOT fertile/developing (which they can't be anyway if there is only 1 cockatiel).
      Please Google and UA-cam search "candling FERTILE cockatiel eggs " and "candling fertile eggs" . This will teach you what it looks like when there is a baby developing inside. ALL BIRD EGGS LOOK THE SAME in the beginning of development when you candle them !
      Personally I would not bother with any of this and simply take the eggs away, after everything I have learned since making THIS video. It's pointless to let mum torture herself trying to hatch eggs that are duds...
      To prevent her from laying more (THIS IS BAD FOR HER) you need to change your cage layout, and if you can, the cage location. Also, don't cover it if you are, no fabrics or nest like anything inside the cage as well. It takes A LOT out of her to lay eggs and if she keeps doing this she can DIE FROM GETTING EGG BOUND!
      I hope this helps ❤️ best of luck
      (I'm not an expert, so I always recommend you research more)

They tolerated each other lol , but never groomed each other and we never heard or saw them mate. We are always with our birds. • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  Місяць тому

      @mayraalejandra6023 i assume you have a male and female. If not, then those eggs are NOT fertile and need to be removed immediately. you should candle the eggs to see if there is life. Look up the images and videos of candlening chicken eggs to learn what live vs dead embryos look like. If the eggs are clear like mine, they are definitely empty and should be removed. You won't kill the embryo by handling the eggs. Just wash your hands well before you touch them. You can also choose to wear gloves (medical gloves).
      When candling, all birds pretty much look/develop the same inside the eggs, only difference is size and how quick or long they take until they are ready to hatch (and of course they look different as they are different species/breeds lol). Be sure to look up "how long for cockatiel eggs to hatch," and if it's been a week since they were supposed to hatch, remove them.
      To help momma and daddy (assuming you have a male), make some scrambled eggs (DON'T add any oil or butter or seasonings!) Make them a healthy dish of food for them to eat from. Include veggies, fruits, scrambled eggs, some greens and seeds, etc.
      You can look up what the best power foods for cockatiels are! It's necessary that you work on getting g their strength and body weight back up after sitting on eggs for 28days. ESPECIALLY if you don't have a male. Cockatiels work together, so if the female has been sitting on the eggs all day, them she has been starving herself an extreme amount the last 28 days and needs help. Anyhow, I hope this helps.
      After ypu have figured out of the eggs are fertile/will hatch and once removed or hatched and raised, clean the cage and redo the layout of the cage. Also, if possible move their cage to a different room in the house. The female should not be allowed to lay eggs or incubate eggs until next year if possible.
      You can google how to prevent them from laying eggs and nesting.
      Best of luck!

    I have a question today I saw that an egg was on the cage's floor and I checked if I had life and I dropped it and then I saw that there was a small drop of blood very minute drop so was the egg fertile ?

    • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  Рік тому +1

      How many birds are in your cage? You obviously have 1 girl , but does she have a boy with her? If so, have they developed a mate bond? A small spackle of blood does not mean it was fertile. First she NEEDS a boy to make fertile eggs. Second, this same thing happens in my chicken eggs sometimes and is basically something that can happen from time to time, especially if the bird5 is laying eggs too often. Usually the blood in the egg suggests that the bird had a ⁶çsmall vain burst inside her oviduúç. This is not an issue (normally). "You can look up, a spot of blood inside my chicken egg." But if it's a lot of blood or constantly happens, it CAN be a sign something is wrong. Cockatiels should only be laying when they have a nest and a mate who will help them to incubate and raise the babies. It is very bad for them, if they keep laying eggs all the time. Cockatiels are not made to lay daily.

      Yes, any egg can be checked like this. It's called candling ❤️. You are only placing the egg on the light for a moment to check for veins or a shadow, silhouette (depending on the age of the egg) you should know what you are looking for. Google dove egg incubation, and how long to incubate a dove egg, dove egg development, candling a dove egg etc.

    I have a cockatiel name Cheddar. We never know if she was male or female before until today (she was a gift, from my husband's friend about 3.5 years ago). I found she laid an egg. we bought a new cockatiel about a month ago. we don't know if this one is male or female either . Its about 11 months . We never seen both of the bird mating. The new bird is so passive, it doesn't walk around the house as much as our first bird ( cheddar). And Cheddar doesn't like to get close with this one. Do you think the egg is fertile? Today is day 1 and what I see there is kind bubble inside the egg. Also my bird seem doesn't want to take care her egg. I've seen her playing with the egg trying to move it with her beak.

    • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  Рік тому

      Chances are slim to none. Cockatiels mate for life, so if they mated, they would stay together all day and love on each other. Separation could actually cause death from depression. That's how loyal and emotionally attached they become to their mate. Also, the male would be protecting the eggs. Regardless of how tame and lovely they are usually, once they go into mating/laying they usually become very defensive. So I'd say not fertile. Does the other (new) bird whistle/talk/sing? Does he dance for music, mimic sounds or do the heart shape with his wings?
      Also, cockatiels usually do not sexually mature until 18 months old. Laying eggs (with no purpose, when they are not fertile) can be very dangerous for your bird over long periods of time. I would recommend that you research "how to stop my cockatiel from laying eggs" or "how to prevent my cockatiel from nesting" ASAP! She NEEDS to stop for her own health. Cockatiels (even when we allow them to breed) should not lay more than maybe 3-5 eggs in 1 clutch, and only once a year. It's very stressful on their bodies/ takes a lot of nutrients from them. Also, cockatiels parent and incubate eggs as a team, taking turns sitting on the eggs! If she starts sitting on them, she won't have help, which means she will eat significantly less food /drink less water AND they do not poop in their nest/on eggs, so they hold their poop ALL DAY, and this can be one toxic to them if the male is not there to come relieve them of their shift so she can eat, drink& poop regularly. These situations can kill a bird if left to their own devices. Id remove any and all nesting materials, move the cage, rearrange the cage and if you have them out in the house a lot, you can also rearrange your furniture. Basically changing/messing up what they are used to so she's not as comfortable for her environment anymore. Lessen her daylight hours to winter time, stop covering the cage with a blanket at night (if you are) remove any extra blankets pillows from her access, and change up her routine, are some of the things you can do to stop this behavior. Also, I'd recommend you research "egg bound cockatiel" In case you end up with this situation.... Egg bound is when the egg gets stuck inside their body and it can be very deadly! This is why it is so important to stop them from laying when they don't have a mate. There is no reason for them to be put at risk. Also, the way you handle her can have an impact. Never cuddle or touch any area of her body other than her head/neck. When petting her back, your basically doing cockatiel foreplay ... Sounds crazy but it's true. Males balance on their backs while mating and do specific movements to "entice" the female to engage in the mating .
      This is just some of the stuff I know /have had to do/learn myself. I HIGHLY recommend you research everything I said for yourself. I am NOT an expert and never want anyone to blindly trust what I say, because I am just a human, just like you, not an expert in this area, and could have misunderstood or examined something incorrectly. I would not want you to make a mistake due to a miscommunication or me being wrong about something.
      Anyhow, I wish you and your birdies the best of luck! I hope everything works out amazingly ❤️

      I'm so sorry this is happening! Have you witnessed any mating or mating behaviors? Do they ever act like a bonded pair? Look up chicken eggs development/candling (all eggs develop similar/look almost the same) and compare if you are ACTUALLY seeing life/development.
      If you are, I'd attempt putting the birds together and pay attention if the male is taking turns sitting on the eggs!
      There are things called decoy eggs if you don't want babies. Usually sold online, they are ceramic or wooden eggs that look and feel like the real thing. It can help in some cases.
      If you plan to remove the eggs, you can either dispose of them or buy an incubator , overnight it , and remove the eggs after it gets there. if you do this, you WILL be in charge of feeding these TINY babies (I have done it) and it is exhausting ...every hour-2 hrs day AND night they must be fed. You'd have to learn to tube feed...which entails putting a tube down their esophagus (avoiding the tracea ) and filling their crop with a syringe attached to that tube...not easy. When they first HATCH, you have to gently, carefully put tiny amounts of that formula near or in their mouth...without aspirating them...again, very uneasy lol.
      Anyhow, there are some videos on mine and other channels with cocjatiel baby feedings.
      When u removed the eggS, in the past,, have u ever tried changing EVERYTHING about the cage ? Layout, remove EVERYTHING that could be a nest, Incl fabrics! Change the location of your cage in your home often...every couple days, preferably different rooms. Lessen how much light they have. If they think there are less hours in the day, they are less likely to have babies. Do u know where cockatoels are from? They all have an inner clock. She's just following her instincts, so u gotta try to break the cycle. Change routine, EVERYTHING, IF you want her to stop laying eggs. Yes, it is correct that laying eggs more than once a year is bad for cockatiels and can lead to co.plications and medical issues. Think of /research all the things a cockatiel needs to be comfortable laying eggs.... and then remove those things. All of them. Basically, you want her to think she's in a strange, new location, she does not know, and having babies would be wreckless.of her ATM. Sorry I'm all over the place, pls lmk if u have questions, and keep in mind. I'm not an expert...just a woman who likes to help and share what she's learned.

      @@prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155 I’ve never witnessed them mating at all. I usually leave them in their bird room when I have work and leave them for a few hours to play. They’re not very bonded though. NEVER preened each other and I was very sure they’re just tolerating each other. Because the male usually sings for her, makes heart wings but Evee always runs away from him. However, if they’re too close they’ll kind of hiss each other but will sit together on a perch minding their own business. Now, I knew the eggs that she was laying were infertile because of this but now I am not very sure anymore. I candled the eggs because they looked different while cleaning the cage and I was shocked to see that the eggs have yolk, redness, and are stark white shell for the first time and I don’t even know how that must’ve happened?? I am checking the eggs 4 days later and they do have yolk and redness in them otherwise all her previous eggs were beige and completely empty after candling…I am pretty sure I’ve never seen them mating :(

      @moonlightray4679 OK, so when they lay their first eggs, just like in a human, they may not always ovulate in the beginning (releasing an egg, which in their case is the yolk) but every egg will normally have a yellow-dark orange yolk no matter if it is fertilized or not. What you are looking g for is a red spiderweb or Veins looking streaks. If you Google chicken egg candling /development you'll see the "spider like" webbing I'm talking about.

      This depends. In this case, I was confirming that the eggs were not fertile (no babies because she did not mate with my male). I did not disturb her. I waited for her to leave the nest, to go eat and drink, and THATS WHEN I took the eggs to candle them (which is what I am doing in the video). When you handle them, you must be very careful, do not shake or drop the eggs. Also, if you need to check for life/fertility, only do this if you think they might not have babies inside. Wait at least 10 days, after mom starts to sit on them, before candling. If you only have 1 bird, the eggs will NOT be fertile, and you can remove them. Personally I believe we should always remove eggs that are not fertile, because sitting on the eggs and incubating them is very hard work for the bird! She will only eat and drink ONCE and only a little bit every day, and she will only poop once a day. If she has no mate, she will sit on the eggs all day. If she has a mate, they will take turns. It is vital that cockatiels have a mate to help them incubate/ sit on the eggs, as it is too hard on their body and health. So if you need to check for life, do this 10 days after she/or both have started to incubate (sit on the egg all day and night). You can use your phone flashlight to see inside the eggs. If you see nothing, like in this video, at 10-14 days, then the eggs are empty. If you see veins or a little shadow or movement inside the egg, it's alive! You can Google "how to candle a cockatiel egg and what to look for" for more details. I urge you to only do the candling ONCE and try to cause no stress for mom and dad. Hope this helps. Good luck

    You need to remove them birds can die from eggs cause they will starve just sitting there

    • @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155
      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  5 місяців тому

      Lol, tho true to an extent, your comment isn't quite correct without details.
      A bird won't just die because they are sitting on eggs "starving themselves."
      For example, with geese, generally only the female Sits on the eggs, while the male protects the female and nest/eggs. So they leave the eggs once or twice a day to poop, eat, and drink. Its minimal intake and could be compared to starving themselves, but it does keep them alive for the duration of the incubation, which is usually around 30 days.
      With cockatiels, the male and female share the responsibility of incubating the eggs, taking turns sitting on the eggs, and therefore, they only spend part of each day not eating, drinking, and pooping. Once their mate takes over, they are able to eat, drink, and poop for several hours. Even tho tgis is not ideal for their health, it is not as extreme as it is for chickens, geese, and ducks, where the mothers do actually virtually starve themselves.
      In some cases of captive cockatiels, you'll have a female making a nest and laying eggs regardless of if a male is present. In those cases, if there is no male, the eggs obviously won't be fertile and they should be removed because the female bird will sit on the eggs all day, taking over the males part of the responsibility and itll basically be like how geese incubate eggs, with the important difference that cockatiels are NOT supposed to have to do it on their own. This means that the effect of the stress, lack of nutrients, and lack of being able to eliminate may be significantly worse on female cockatiels.
      In some cases, you have males in your flock, but you may not know if they mated the female as there does not appear to be an obvious bond between the male and female. In those cases, assuming you don't want to destroy the eggs if they contain life, you will need to wait a few days before you can see (candling) if anything within the eggs is developing. During this time, one needs to observe the animals' behaviors to find out if the male is assisting the female or is disinterested. In other cases, the male may attempt to assist, but the female refuses to allow him to. In either of these cases, if the female is doing it on her own, it is not good for her.
      Now, there are arguments one can make about potentially assisting the mother by ensuring she has access to food and water while she is sitting on the eggs and feeding her highly nutritional foods like scrambled eggs, but generally one will remove the eggs, from single mothers, to either place them in an incubator (if they are fertile and one wants to hatch them out) or they will be disgarded.
      Either way, there is a process of gathering information before one can decide what steps are the best for the animal.
      In this case, I had been going through this process, making sure my male had not mated her and confirming that she did not have help. So actually, removing the eggs was the ENTIRE reason for candling them to confirm they did not have life.
      If I remember correctly, I took the eggs in less than 7 days.
      I hope this helps explain 😉

      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  9 місяців тому

      @future3867 touching eggs (with clean hands) does not affect the hatchrate. This is an old wives tale.
      Cockatiels should not breed before they are at least 18 months old, preferably 2 years old. If you have a male and female, they will mate for life, and humans needing to help to raise the babies is not uncommon. If they end up being "bad" parents, you would have to have a incubator or brooder to keep them from freezing to death, you'd need to learn how to crop feed, buy the bird formula and feed them all day and all night every 2 hours to keep them from dying. Assuming your birds do breed, it's not easy to find homes for them.
      They chose their mate, you can't force them to mate. Once they do, there are many factors such as age, living conditions, diet, safety of their environment, etc. that will affect if they breed. You should do your best to prevent them from breeding unless you know what you are doing, all other conditions are met, you have the time and you have people willing to buy the babies once they are 3+ mo ths old.
      Hope this helps. There is much more to it. It's hard, exhausting and a lot of work.

      @prettybirdthepetgoosefrien8155  11 місяців тому +1

      @@Andrea-64 it depends, do you have a male, are they mated/do they mate? How old are they? If the parent /parents are too young to be parents (less then 18 months) or you don't have a mated pair, mum should not be allowed to sit on the egg. They NEED their mate to take turns with them, sitting on the egg, or otherwise, they won't get much needed breaks to eat and drink and may starve themselves to death for eggs that are not even fertile. If you want to attempt to incubate/hatch the eggs at no risk to your birds, order a incubator from Amazon and Google the instructions for cockatiel eggs. The eggs stay dormant for several days, until mum or/and dad start to sit on them, activating the embryos growth with consistent warm temperatures. If the eggs are likely not fertile and or, the pair isn't acting mated or you don't have a male or they are too young, I'd also recommend cleaning your cage, removing any and all cloth or fabric from it and changing the layout of the perches within the cage. I'd also recommend changing the location of the entire cage in your home. This will help interrupt the female from laying more eggs. If that does not work, I'd recommend turning to an expert.
      The thing is, as long as your hands are clean (soap and water) touching the egg (when necessary) isn't an issue.
      Laying each egg takes a LOT out of mum, so she may need some extra supplements (calcium) to ensure she doesn't get too weak, especially if you can't get her to stop laying.
      Keep in mind, I'm no expert, but I have many friends who are breeders of many kinds 9f bird species and this is what I have learned from years of research and receiving advice. I'd still strongly advise that you research /reach out to an expert yourself, to ensure the wellbeing of your bird/s.
      (Also, until mum starts to sit on the egg it is dormant and no different from the chicken egg you eat for breakfast every day. If you dispose of the eggs within a short time after they are laid, or before mum sits on them to hatch them, you are NOT killing a baby bird. The egg has NO live until the egg has begun to be incubated at specific temperatures for MANY MANY hours.) Hope this all helps ❤️
