Kathryn Hays (Kim) was an exceptional actress. She was ALWAYS totally overlooked in the lead actress category her entire run. Will never forget her in the Doug Cummings storyline that would follow in 1985/86. Perfection....
It was ridiculous that Kathryn Hays was never nominated for an Emmy. She ought to have won several times! She certainly should have been nominated for the 1979 episodes surrounding Dan's death, and esp. for the Kim/Bob/Susan triangle in 1990-91! (:
My mother started watching ATWT from the beginning!! Started watching it once I was married with kids in the 90s...Loved it as much as she did...Wish it was still on for her now that she's in her 80s...Boy,she loved Lisa!!
This actually felt like a real funeral to me. It was pretty somber and not sure how it would play with audiences today but I loved the religious aspect and how they all left the funeral and went to eat and spend time together and hang out. I miss this kind of stuff on soaps especially in light of the recent Kay Chancellor memorial outdoors at a park.
I agree with you. This is some very great acting it really felt like a really funeral. I wish they would take The Talk off the air and but As The World Turns back on Television.
This is the last of these beautiful long scenes, where you saw true interaction between the characters. We lost these connections as ATWT and other shows tried to get 'with it'. What everyone forgot, is these connections were the foundations to why we watched. They are what remained after the stupid plots ended. It is also what really could have driven story.
I wish these were in order! I’ve been so intrigued…I watched ATWT from 1 st grade with my mother and grandmothers and almost every day until I returned to teaching when my youngest was in kindergarten! I love seeing the characters I literally grew up with up with. I miss the CBS soaps.
I really enjoyed Suzanne Davidson in the role of Betsy to, even more the adult actresses who played Betsy. Loved the interaction between Suzanne's Betsy and Kim. Ironically, Suzanne played her the longest, longer the the adult actresses, for about 10 years. Thought that was interesting, even more interesting that was an unusally long run for a child playing a character I would imagine.
A great companion piece to watch with the Patricia Bruder Locher room interview. I'm very glad that Alan got the bulk of the As the World Turns veterans on the show. I think the only one he hasn't interviewed is Larry Bryggman.
Someone said an actress named Lisa Denton played her for a short time after Suzanne. I watched it from the time Suzanne played her as a child at age 8 until she was a teen but missed it apparently when this Lisa was on there but I know I watched it some when Meg came on there and I remember thinking she was a terrible actress but maybe that was because she totally changed the character. After I saw Meg in movies I felt she tended to play the same kind of role. I liked her in some of them but I was not so crazy about her on As the World Turns.

I hope that we there are other 1979 subsequent episodes forthcoming. These have been a real treat. The "real" ATWT in my opinion. Most of these characters were long forgotten after the Marland era. He brought many back from time to time - even Kelly Wood as Mary Ellison in the late 80's/early 90's for an anniversary celebration for Kim and Bob and Keith Charles as Ralph Mitchell who had a brief romance with Ellen before they were both written out.
I started watching when Betsy was little, Kim with Dan was a favorite couple of mine. John should look sad, he kept Kim away from Dan when she had amnesia, Betsey's friendship re united them. Suzanna was a great Betsy I guess they wanted her character to grow up, so new actress. . I knew Meg wanted to leave so accepting Frost was fine with me. She did a great job. The show at this time was fine with me. Valerie and her sister were fighting, Grant and Lisa were another couple I liked.
I liked Lindsey as well. Lisa Denton took over the role for a short time after Suzanne Davidson. At least Meg looked more like Suzanne than Lisa did. Lisa was a tall brunette. Sadly, Dan Stewart was rarely mentioned much after his death. And, that was truly the end of a saga - the end of the most compelling storyline Patricia Bruder ever had. To think that the story of Dan's parentage lasted for well over a decade, and then he's gone, and all she went through to protect him was lost too.
Lisa Denton actually favored Suzanne Davidson and Meg Ryan was a completely different look. Lindsay Frost, whom I also liked a lot, had an uncanny resemblance to Meg Ryan, just taller.
I'm glad to hear it was her choice. Lindsay Frost reminds me of SD, although I know Frost wasn't that popular with fans. (I liked her) I remember Meg Ryan saying she went on a public appearance with Frank Runyeon soon after she took over for the other Betsy (Lisa something?), and he asked the audience if Meg was the best Betsy ever. She said barely anyone responded, because most of them still preferred Suzanne's Betsy.

do any of you remember if LISA ever pushed her mother over in a wheelchair? i remember this scene in my mind, as a child i remember seeing this happen while they were either trapped in a cabin, or lodge, and there was this circular fire place in the center of the room. i think LISA was in an argument with her mother, or she got mad at her, and in a rage, she pushed her over. i was about 3 or 4 years old, and i still remember this. did this happen, or am i crazy.
I don't have any knowledge of any sort of incident like that. Lisa's mom's last on screen appearance was early 1979, and she was never in a wheel chair that I know of. Lisa mentioned her most likely being able to attend the wedding at the Willows, but she did not
No. “Our Private World” aired in the summer of 1965, and Lisa returned to Oakdale in 1966. The scenes shown here aired in 1979. Here, Lisa had been spirited away from Oakdale to the Willows by the evil Bennett, but she hadn’t been off the show as she was in 1965-just away from Oakdale.
This is so funny but Kim and. Ellen should be very close in age, yet she's now Ellen's daughter in law, My mother watched this show and other's and always fou d it strange how the characters can age and really not disrupt the fabric of the serial.

Sbout that time, they also wrote out the old judge, Joyce Hughes, Alma Miller, Sandy Hughes and then Dr. Dan Stewart. Sandy's hub Kevin Thompson was killed off in a car crash (a default way of death on this show) but he had been on for only 3 years.

I know Susan was written out in '79, but I'm not sure if she was already gone before Dan died.
