The Imperial Axiom/Sinatra's Law joke is so damn subtle and funny.
"Because of the extreme difficulty of creating a permanent magical effect within the tumultuous arcane landscape of New York, an object or enchantment which is abjured or ensorcelled from being able to be crafted, conjured, or created within a given location CAN be crafted, conjured, or created within it's abjured locality if it is first crafted, conjured, or created within the Five Boroughs of New York City."
Or in other words, "If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere."
Damn.
:O
That is so awesome! i never would have caught that!
Thanks for catching that one for me man, I woulda missed it otherwise.
That is a good catch.
I can't understand the imperial axium
Brilliant! I missed that one, thank you!
That construction beetle gets me every time
"Uh, hey bud, this is a construction zone, I'm gonna have to kill ya."
@yes thank you
Brennan’s delivery is on point
13:24
Speaking as someone who worked in construction for nearly a decade and a half,
That is very much the vibe of most guys in the industry.
“Hey bud, you were 30 seconds late on your lunch break and this lumber is laid out all wrong even though that’s exactly how I told you ta do it.
I’m gonna have to eat ya.”
Pretty much every construction worker ever.
I love how Siobhan just dresses more and more like Misty every episode
Calling it now, she comes to the season finale with elf ears
@@jessarisetty5448 And full old lady prosthetics

YES!!!!!!!!
Broke: Siobhan wanted to play a bard
Woke: Siobhan wanted to use her extensive clothing collection
Bespoke: Siobhan wanted to play a fairy bard to smooth over the transition of turning into a real life fairy bard
Planned or not, I absolutely love the "Yes, and" improv that Brennan does, like when Sophie asked if there was a cat in the bodega, and it turned out to be a cat deity.
It doesn’t seem planned at all but also why else would Brennan have just a random cat deity figure?
@@bennyfarbstein6511 You have trouble believing Brennan just has cat deity figres on hand?
to be fair. all/mostl bodegas have cats
Actually Brennan has stated in a FAQ that La Gran Gata was a pre-planned part of the city's lore, but Emily just guessed correctly, because "OF COURSE".
@@alexanderson6961 which FAQ was that? I wanna hear more about this campaign and also the cat 🐱
Sofia literally just woke up hungover, saved the day while completely wasted and petted a magical cat. She's living THE life.
Minus the whole her husband left her thing
fucking. legend.
at the end when she asks the cat to change her eyes different colors, Emily is so random hahaha
Brennan using an infestation as a parallel to the gentrification of a neighborhood is such a nice touch
If there's anything I've learned about Brennan it's that every move he makes is meticulously planned and makes sense in about every way possible
representing gentrification as a parasite is absolutely hilarious and kinda sad at the same time, it's just so accurate

Bodega cats are benevolent fey, the same kind as brownies and home guardian spirits from Ancient Greece. Don’t tell them I told you 🤫
“Kingston Brown from uptown” dear god I love that part
Gets me every time
Every time Kingston rolls a nat 20 or interacts with a random downtime NPC, Brennan and Lou hit us with some absolutely golden roleplay. Kingston Brown from uptown is basically a minor god of NYC and it shows.
@@clockworkkirlia7475 he is playing a cleric, but he acts like a minor god or demigod, specially because he doesn't worship anything, more like he serves the city
@@daniellins4114 Exactly! He's like a Roman-style genius loci in human form, or a nature spirit where the 'nature' is the vast ecosystem of his city. It's such a cool twist on a cleric that is masterfully performed by Lou and Brennan basically every episode.
Every time I hear it, I just get this nice little warm feeling
I love that the official term in Dimension 20 for badly damage is "pretty fucked up"
The fact that they put a crown on the Kugrash figure makes me very happy.
I love when they update the figures as the characters change
Can we appreciate that the neighborhood is literally being gentrified by W.A.S.P.s?
Didn’t even think of that haha

There was a lot talk about Fabian being the "captain" of the part in Fantasy High and I don't he ever really WAS, however Kingston FEELS like the leader of this group, and it was never discussed.
Kingston is the leader, the *Rock*, the guy everyone turns to, and Pete is the Main Character, the new guy who must learn the ways of the world to save everyone
@@kingofpoliwhirls7464 I actually really don’t like that? I don’t know I feel like I’d like Pete better if he wasn’t so “main character” it feels out of place in a DnD setting
Nixahma That makes sense, but Pete definitely is a main plot intrigue, same with Kingston
What? Most of the talk was about how Fabian was NOT the leader of the group. It was, like, the focus of the most emotional moments with his dad.
@@Nixahma I personally feel like every single character in Unsleeping City is pretty "Main Character" in their own story, which is really cool with the themes of the series imo. Every story is a totally different genre, but they all have big time protagonist moments.
That might not be standard for a D&D adventure, but I feel like it really works here, with this group.
So is no one going to mention the sheer buffet of looks that Siobhan has been serving? Like first the little embroidered jacket and now this lovely thing? I love it
the hair just slays every time and I live for it

@@littlebreadlive6232 are you asking about lumity Or are you asking about something else?
The thing I really enjoy about watching this is that it's really a lesson from Brennan about how to be a cool DM, about how to make your players feel special and make them feel like they're doing cool and amazing things, to really roll with the punches and to avoid saying no when you can.
Yeah, I’ve really worked on my improve for DMing, it’s not that easy to put your want for the story aside for the sake of fun,
but my players are so nice they always say “will this be too inconvenient for you to work around?” I always tell them that they can do whatever within reason(we’ve all agreed that murderhoboing is kinda annoying) I’ve stopped really planning that much outside the settings for each session. They have no idea how much I improv.
Brennen is a great DM in that, and every other regard.
he is such an amazing DM, and the way he always finds a way to make everything the PC's do very cool is awesome
Where's the Brennan Lee Mulligan effect, though?
Please note: This is a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously.
Yeah. Letting the heroes be heroes is something that a lot of DMs don't do. Sometimes you have to let them absolutely ruin a few minions and exaggerate how cool the finishing blow on the big boss is. I know too many DMs who make every fight a super struggle with no let up and I'm here like.... we defeated a Demon Prince last week, how are these random bandits downing us?
To highlight that in your games, as DM, simply do not get attached to your Big Bads. You can make any number of baddies -- the players (typically) get one figure each. Build up the Big Bad to be awesome so that there is satisfaction in their defeat, but they don't need to win for the game to continue or for you to have fun; the heroes do. That said, don't give the players the win -- make 'em earn it. But making them earn it isn't the same as trying to preserve the Big Bad.
Also of note, there's usually something else going on in these fights that isn't directly related to slaying monsters. Releasing the sewer valve or freeing the Gato are recent examples. You can have your fights scaled so that they are really tough, until the players figure out how to turn the tide in their favor, which shouldn't be tied directly to dealing damage.
"Fireball is 8d6? 5e you crazy" honestly, mood.

Kingston Brown from Up town
Kingston Brown is the type of person people want to pay for when they go to restaurants, but he insists that he pays and will insist that he pays for the next one if the people he’s with pay for this one.
As someone who grew up near Chicago, I have an innate hatred and inferiority complex when it comes to NYC; however, Kingston Brown may have completely undone that.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate how Brennan turns every nat 20 into a really special moment for the characters. I know it's not the most popular way to do ability checks/saving throws, but every nat 20 gives the players complete agency and victory over their decisions. It's amazing. :)
I'm following the same viewing path, a month behind you.
Absolutely agree - Brennan's world building, willingness to adapt, and ability to embrace both the chaos of his players and their dice rolls has completely changed my perception of how ttrpgs should be played.
I have been mostly ambivalent to the whole genre (except for Harmontown's games, which I enjoyed mostly because they were barely playing the game) but D20 has shown me a middle ground between traditional ttrpgs and chaotic ignore-the-rules games that has absolutely captured my imagination.
Perhaps there is some occasional "massaging the dice" that goes into these campaigns, but regardless I consider it brilliant.
If every DM was able to think like Brennan very few people would be able to resist playing.

Take a drink every time Brennan says “Hell yeah” or “incredible.”

i took a hit everytime brennan said his favorite phrase (you see). i stopped after about half an hour (mainly bc i forgot what i was doing) but it was fun!
Not as much as in Fantasy High, surprisingly
Or “buh buh BUH!” As a time filler.
i think this is one of my favourite combats from Dimension 20, there is just always more to see/discover in this combat that keeps me engaged
this sounds so stupid but dimension 20 gives me hope for finding a good social group even though I’m not in school anymore. It just makes me want to have a group of people I see fairly regularly who hang out and are goofy even though we’re all adults. like yes I know this is partly work for this cast but it still makes me happy
It doesn't sound stupid at all.
I hope you find those people.
Siobhan is the prettiest person on this Earth I can't-
Good on you for leaving the possibility of prettier people on other earth's open, stay open minded
On a more serious note highkey agree
I hope Emily’s Mr March bit continues because I fucking love it. It makes me laugh every time. It reminds me of something fig from fantasy high would say.
