  • We sent Tyrone Marshall to FC United, the rebel club formed in 2005 after the Glazer takeover of Manchester United to find out how a non-league club like themselves compete for a European Cup.
What is the FENIX Trophy? (From their website)
The FENIX TROPHY is a ground-breaking international sporting event, conceived and organised by the Milan-based football club Brera FC.
It involves European non-professional clubs (each one paired with a charity partner), chosen for their exceptional social, historical and cultural distinctiveness. The competition has received UEFA’s approval.
Tyrone discussed that with European competition comes travel and travel costs money. He asks how non-league clubs such as FC United fund these trips and how they manage this with their players' other commitments - who often play football as a second-job, part-time.
