Scottish football has the highest match attendance per capita in European football this season. Everyone waxes lyrical about Ryan Reynolds about Wrexham. But Wrexham will hit a glass ceiling should they get up to the Championship. But Scottish clubs are cheaper to buy. And to win the Scottish title, at a club outside the Old Firm, doesn’t need that much money. It would cost an investor less to achieve this. than to get someone like Wrexham up to the Premier League from the lower English leagues. Plus you have easier access to European competition. The TV money is low at present, but raise the profile of the league, and that will sort itself out. It will always be in the shadow of the league down south, because they have ten times the population. Even if the big money left English football, it will still have massive advantages. That said, Scottish football is not as destined to perennial mediocrity, as some make out. It still occasionally shows it can punch above its weight. And with the current state of politics out in Eastern Europe, football isn’t the priority in these countries, leaving secondary West European leagues to fill the void.
Going to manage an old firm club isn’t ‘brave,’ for crying out loud! You’ve basically got a 50% chance of winning the league - stay two seasons you’re more or less guaranteed to win it once. Gerard won the SPL and we all know he’s a shite manager. Ange won the SPL and look where Spurs are now. Rogers took the easy route, not a brave one.
Pretty sure any Tottenham fan at the start of the season wouldn't have expected a conference league spot never mind Europa league or challenging for champions league after losing Kane and not replacing him so arguably Ange has actually done very well with that Tottenham squad. You're obviously English or you would understand that the pressure of managing Celtic or Rangers is head and shoulders above managing any English club, which most managers, and players (rangers this season being a prime example), can't handle because they underestimate it just like you are
If other teams in Scotland had the money top 2 have then would be more competitive . Celtic and rangers are miles ahead of the rest and will only get wider .
Whilst I agree with most of the points Simon makes re the SPL, his comment re attendace at Ibrox and Celtic park is garbage! Both stadiums are full or nearly full for every match regardless of the opposition with average crowds of circa 50k & 60k which eclipses most of the EPL teams!

More money needs to be pump into the SPL. For example there should be enough money that the old firm can spend £100m each in the summer transfer. The rest Should be able to spend £70m to £80m during the summer transfer period. A TV deal like this should be signed for 6 years & if that goes well sign other deal which is bigger after that 6 years.
Can agree more. Being scottish myself, yes SPL is a shambles and Rangers and Celtic are in fact poor teams. It will not change and the argument of if they were in the English league they would be unstoppable is pointless and baseless
Truth is i'd rather watch a Celtic Rangers match than any of the soulless corporate dross that England serves up. I couldn't care less about English football..i used to enjoy it but it's become so plastic. Celtic and Rangers is pure theatre, the noise, the passion, the intensity. There's nothing in England to compare to that. They've also ben to three Euro finals between in the last 21 years .
Rod actually VALIDATES Simon's point - twice! He says that the top two would take a few years to get out of England's second tier. He also fails to recognise that, beyond those two, there is no quality in the Scottish game. If he thought otherwise, he'd have added Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, or whoever, into that equation of how Scottish clubs would fare in the English league
Now in the age of fast travel etc why don't we have British football, 10 leagues and coverage of the lot...e.g. some of next week's fixtures... Rangers v Leeds Hearts v Sunderland Brentford v Celtic etc etc Money would change the Scottish teams but the English wouldn't have a bar of it.
Because the English don't need the Scottish. I don't hear about Villa fans day dreaming about a midweek clash with Partick thistle or Everton fans getting excited about an away game at Queens Park.
The temptation slag off Scottish football is irresistible for Talk Sport - It was always the case that the best Scottish footballers had to come to English top league to raise their game - The Scottish national team has improved in recent years and will take part in the upcoming Euro Finals in Germany - Unfortunately their first game is against Germany however let's not be too hard on Scottish football for it's doing alright without the riches of the Premier League in England.

You only see Rod Stewart at the Rangers v Celtic games never the Ross County, Kilmarnock, Dundee v Celtic matches i wonder why.
Jim White talking utter rubbish
Well said Simon and I’m a Rangers Fan
Rod Hull 🤣
You forget that 30 years of ridiculous investment has caused England to win precisely what Scotland has won.
A world cup??
"sing us a song" I'd rather he didn't have you heard him lately
You're obviously English or you would understand that the pressure of managing Celtic or Rangers is head and shoulders above managing any English club, which most managers, and players (rangers this season being a prime example), can't handle because they underestimate it just like you are
Ange getting to 5th with that shite club after selling their best player, EPL a farmers league for sure as well.
Rod Stewart hasn't done anything relevant in probably forty years. Who cares what that guy thinks.
most of the people who listen to talksport are 60+
WOW ..... Celtic won the SPL! What an accomplishment.
Spent 300 million at Liverpool and won nothing ,now he’s in a two horse race and won gold fish bowl.wuppie do.
? What
Let’s be real he nearly won the premier league it was gerrard slipping over like a clown that cost Brendan
Not my fault you know nothing ,do a bit of research,as for HE NEARLY WON THE LEAGUE ,are you having a laugh ? What do you get for nearly these days ?
@@reggates5205 he did I remember Suarez crying against palace too because you lot bottled a 3-0 lead slippy g my boy
@@reggates5205 he didn’t have van dijk Allison Salah none off them he was playing Daniel bloody sturridge up front bro let’s be real he done well at Liverpool didn’t get backed
Reality is not an obstacle. The collective salt off Simon’s comment 😂😂
SJ on point.
Can agree more. Being scottish myself, yes SPL is a shambles and Rangers and Celtic are in fact poor teams. It will not change and the argument of if they were in the English league they would be unstoppable is pointless and baseless
SFA should engage Simon as an ambassador - the only viable solution for Scottish football is for Celtic and Rangers to get into the English leagues
Simon, I think you should go up to Scotland and re build the leagues on an EPl model.
You have the business savvy and it could be a lasting legacy
As for the utter pish he’s talking about attendances… the Scottish league is the most attended in Europe per head of population.
I am Scottish and our top league is really poor. Can defend it all they want but it’s terrible.
As for money, Have celtic paid those poor victims yet? 🤷🏻♂️
Did the Old Rangers Club pay there victims
Rangers told their victims they ste a new club, see the liquidators for compo,54 n a half titles tho😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
@@NolanLamond A shared title is still a title, so wipe those Timmy tears away 😭😭 still the most successful club in Scotland (55) 💪🏻🇬🇧
@@NolanLamond You ok there mate, finger stuck on the emojis??
the rep of Ireland league is better
Gotta love Simon Jordan. 😂
Rod the mod was a Rangers supporter
Now in the age of fast travel etc why don't we have British football, 10 leagues and coverage of the lot...e.g. some of next week's fixtures...
Rangers v Leeds
Hearts v Sunderland
Brentford v Celtic
etc etc
Money would change the Scottish teams but the English wouldn't have a bar of it.
Because the English don't need the Scottish. I don't hear about Villa fans day dreaming about a midweek clash with Partick thistle or Everton fans getting excited about an away game at Queens Park.
Simon Jordan is becoming a national treasure I love people who say what they think and still retain a sense of humour.
Celtic and Rangers have at least 3 hard games a yr,what an astonishing fete
The temptation slag off Scottish football is irresistible for Talk Sport - It was always the case that the best Scottish footballers had to come to English top league to raise their game - The Scottish national team has improved in recent years and will take part in the upcoming Euro Finals in Germany - Unfortunately their first game is against Germany however let's not be too hard on Scottish football for it's doing alright without the riches of the Premier League in England.
7:30, hes from bloody Highgate, from here this is why Simon shows he is the king
