One thing that I ended up cutting from the video for time but still wanted to share here was that the game was running in 1920x1080 for the demo, but is actually designed with 21:9 monitors in mind. Additionally, there are Raytracing settings in the graphics menu that were disabled for the demo. My guess is that they didn't have enough high end systems to run RT on for everyone who got to play.

You're correct that they expanded on the initial stretch goals, but since about 2018-2020, that vision has instead been shrinking, quietly behind the scenes in the case of Squadron, and piecemeal in the case of SC. It's only with 3.23 that we see the first really big domino, the push to "unify" the games and game mechanics.
Salvage is another decent example, with tech demos and concept renders showing cutting and crushing, but concessions were made for expedience resulting in the Slurping instead of Munching or Cutting. They said it would have been prohibitive with all of those entities, but to me it felt more like they didn't want to justify the development effort to rework all of the ships into dynamic semivoxels like how Shipbreaker does its salvage gameplay.

The thing is, Ubisoft has shown that they can make very large and very itneresting looking maps but have a hard time having things to do in them. I still argue that Ghost Recon Wildlands has one of the best ever crafted open-world maps in any game in the history of gaming. The variety and versatility of the biomes and topography is breathtaking. But Ubisoft did F-all with that map size, rinsing and repeating the exact same tasks over and over again across a very detailed and very lovingly crafted world. So it's not just about bloated map sizes with repeating textures, or large map sizes with cool and interesting locations, it's also about things to do in those maps. Some games have small maps and still have F-all to do in them. I'm still not convinced that Outlaws has enough to do to warrant even the smaller maps that it houses.

@@AlbertoMartinez765 I think morph is conflating the public perception of what SW outlaws was going to be (which was a bit over hyped and definitely had some unrealistic expectations) and what UBI and the official mediums claim what SW outlaws was actually going to be.
UBI was pretty clear about its action-adventure-openworld nature of the game and (mostly) haven't oversold or overextended. They're delivering a starwars game with the far cry/assassins creed formula. Not everyone loves that, but its something they deliver on fairly well. Players- on the other hand, don't like to listen. The hypetrain is usually a bad thing, misinformation and rumors spread like wildfires, and peoples imagination is always more inventive and fantastical than reality is. So personally, I did see a lot of people over-hyper SWO and attributing things to it that we're never confirmed, or were otherwise just conjecture. Again, it happens every time. People just get ahead of themselves: "This is going to be the next big thing! its the [insert favorite game] of Starwars games! I cant wait to do [thing that was never said would be included] and interact with [character that was never shown to be in the game]!"
I'd say "damn why haven't gamers learned this lesson yet, over-hyping games is bad, we learned this countless times over the last decade" but I'm fairly certain that a lot of this attitude comes from the younger generations and casual audiences who are just starting their ""journey"" and weren't around (or weren't paying attention) when this sort of thing happened last. Unfortunately it seems overhype/unrealistic expectations and the rift that creates between reality and the actual game is a natural phenomena and a feature of the modern gaming landscape. Even Star Citizen suffers from this phenomena.

@@GomulDart No it's not gamers' fault for filling in the gaps that Ubisoft purposely did not outline. Morph explained the extent of the map sizes, not Ubisoft. Why didn't Ubisoft announce that first when revealing the game? Why did a UA-cam have to put expectations into perspective by outlining exactly how big the maps are? That's Ubisoft's job, not gamers.
People only get "overhyped" for things based on what is and/or is not outlined by the publisher. And here Ubisoft -- much like Bethesda -- basically let the over-hype get to a point based on details of omission. Some studios set expectations properly, like the studio that made Kingdom Come Deliverance -- they outlined exactly how big the game was going to be, what the combat would be like, etc. Gamers went in with proper expectations and were pleasantly surprised; no overhype needed.

As Morph said, Kay is literally just a skin-swap of Han Solo to fit Disney's "force is female" narrative, but there is no reason we couldn't have just had a proper Han Solo game, which would have been way more popular and much more appreciated from the fans. Or... they could have just given us 1313 as it was intended.

Super happy they've gone with the normal Fog of War exploration rather than the rush to the tower and see everything approach; kind of pulls you out of the world after a few Ubisoft titles. The exploration diversity also seems great as well, was kind of worried that towns would be mini hubs of things to do and the roads in between are just empty.
Seems like they are doing a slight pivot from how they've approached the last few assassins creeds which I'm happy for, density versus expansiveness.
Thanks for the detailed response and great video!

The disabling of certain parts in spaceships was in Star Wars Galaxies and it's a nice detail. You may need to loot something from a certain ship, an item, a message in a datapad, to arrest someone for a bounty, you don't want to destroy the ship.
About distance : In the same game, Star Wars Galaxies, we've had to run along on foot on every planet, until we got animal mounts and later on, speeders. In Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, a military simulator, the maps were around 100 square km's, but only if you made missions on the map editor or multiplayer. In the single player campaign, the game would warn you if you were getting out of the mission parameters. So, as a biker, the riding distance looks ok to me, without getting bored.
