the fossils are too fragile and scared for me to even try and attempt to catch them

Dagnel is starting to reach the limits of what he can do in ACNH, so he has now begun what I like to call “The Masochism Phase”. It is the phase that any challenge run channel eventually goes into in which each video is them going through deeper levels of pain and suffering, because the game can’t get pushed any further.

the miyama stag probably just despawned. sometimes you can catch it at the right moment when the bugs do that, as ive seen it happen with butterflies and bugs that you find on the ground.
The fact that the tree shook is confusing. It probably did despawn, but that was some really bizarre stuff there
@@88megagirl i bet acnh just has a “despawn” action for bugs and plays the animation for the free shake either way, but since the player is usually off screen it doesn’t matter
I only travel around my island by sprinting as fast as possible so I can't *imagine* the patience something like this requires!
Watching this and seeing 60/80 caught with almost 20 minutes left is truly scary

20:58 I'm no data miner or anything like that, this is purely from experience... but something I have noticed about this game is that for some reason it remembers the last tree that you interacted with, basically what makes the leaf moving animation, to the point that there is some actions that you can do from far away that can trigger the animation to play on that same tree. So my assumption is that your net breaking triggered that animation despite you not being near the tree, however I didn't see the livestream to know if that was the last tree you touched, but hey, that's just a theory. I still wouldn't count it as a restart because it's the game's code fault and you were stuck in a cutscene with nothing you could do besides preventing the bug net from breaking, but that's dumb.

this must be it, that is such an incredible find. i'll go back (or someone else will) and see if that was the last tree i interacted with

@@Dagnel I don't know if you've already found out, but I checked the VOD and that is the last tree you caught something on, around 5 minutes prior. So this is very likely the cause of that bug getting spooked.
If you already knew, then at least other people can read this comment and know that it was probably this glitch.

I seriously commend you for continuing with your last try. Even if you didn’t manage what you set out to do the result is really impressive. Also even almost 4 years into the game’s lifecycle you still make really interesting and enjoyable content and challenges!

I find it humorous that the "Earth-boring Dung Beetle" escapes by flying away instead of boring into the Earth.
Haven’t played ACNH since it came out honestly as I was really disheartened for a while on the lack of content that was immediately out and how we had to wait for it. I recently came across your channel last week and have binged SO many videos. It really made me miss this game and I decided to delete my old island to start all over from the beginning. I’ve been having so much fun again.

I haven’t reset but I never fully completed my island nor got every bug or golden tools and stuff like that, so I’ve been replaying alot too and it’s been so much fun since there’s still stuff for me to do
I've noticed a lot of games are like that recently, releasing small free updates every so often - it's a way to try and keep players intrigued and keep them wanting to play the game. A lot of mobile games, especially, are like this which is probably where it originated from?
im in the same boat! i started again shortly after finding these videos. playing the game with all the updates out instead of day1 is much more fun (wish it didnt have to be like this though!!)

You must have an unbridled hatred for the bug leaving sfx. Like normally it's like aaah dang hopefully I catch the bug next time. I'm glad you're doing the work of a crazy person.
Watching this made my heart race. I put this on to watch in the background while playing ACNH (like I normally do), but I had to put my Switch down because I got too engrossed in watching this. Great video and you did your best! Honestly completing the challenging with scaring less than 5 bugs away is CRAZY impressive!

I have this random urge once a year to start acnh again, making a new island and 100% it. I usually stop playing after two weeks but I for the life of me find the first few hours so boring and annoying. I could never do that over and over again back to back. Huge respect to you for doing this challenge!

i know im late but idk if you knew that when you’re “stalking” a bug (as in holding A and walking slowly), if you want to interrupt the action without hitting your net onto the ground and potentially scaring away nearby bugs, you can press X to open your inventory and your avatar will change into the thinking position without hitting the net
it's still insane how you went through ten whole attempts and got so close to completion! excellent work!!

A trick to doing restart challenges like these is to not restart when the run is dead. Complete it anyway, noting all the failure states. That way you can learn all the pitfalls without as much repetition of the early parts

Goliath beetle was also the last bug I caught. I was on a nook miles island for 4 hours before it finally spawned. Got about 20 horned atlas’ in that time.
19:52 I've noticed in some games that some actions are tied with others even if it makes no sense. It's why I think a random bug got scared when your net broke, as it shook the tree somehow. I notice this much more in heavily glitchy games like Disney Dreamlight Valley for example. If you do any action it forces the critters around you to cycle back in action. They shouldn't be connected but maybe something in the code is oddly linked together. I saw the tree for instance in this video was the closest tree to you at the time. So yeah it 10000% wasn't your fault but the game being weird. (Take this with a grain of salt. I have no idea how or why it actually happens XD just my observation from gaming so much)
props to you because I wouldve gone absolutely insane after attempt one and gone fully internet-less after it.

Sometimes I wonder why everything in ACNH is super simplified and cartoonish, but all of the bugs look photorealistic.
I also sometimes wonder why you torture yourself on purpose.
