You bet! Anything Stones / Mick Taylor I am happy/ delighted to dig into. I'll put it on the list. Was even looking at doing a slide rendering of the solo parts for 'Winter' - which always sounded kind of slide-like to me.
Have to agree with you, was set to get a D18 and tried this one in the shop. Different guitars obviously but this Yamaha competes favourably with guitars at a much much higher price point. An incredible achievement really.
@@JeremyJames_studio I describe it to my friends as the most humble but most confident guitar I've ever played. I write all my music with it now..... cheers 🍻
You bet I do! Love some Keef in open g - most of the materials I put out though, are slide guitar related…so I don’t upload many of his tracks. Also I think they’re well covered/taught on UA-cam? I imagine they are anyway. If they weren’t I’d certainly put some up. 🧐
Jeremy, the only really expensive instrument I own is an acoustic. Do you think there is any issue with putting that in open E? I always thought necks falling off was an old wives tale but I’m not sure I’m willing to find out the hard way 😂
I hear ya - acoustics make me a touch nervous as well. The bridge came off my maton a few years back but I suspect that was the humid climate here more than anything else. I took that Guitar back to NZ and got a new Yamaha red label which is really good and seems robust. It’s tuned to open at the moment but I want to do a track in open D so I emailed string joy and ask them which gauge would be suitable and they sent back a recommendation which I’m going to go with. Those guys know their gauges! Perhaps email them and see what they say. That way you can expect the right tension on the neck for whatever tuning especially if it’s an expensive guitar by the way, what have you got?
@@JeremyJames_studio Okay-thanks for the advice Jeremy, I’ll definitely be cautious with it. I’ve got an Atkin. It’s like a handmade copy of a Martin D18. Incredibly thin top. It marks if you even look at it funny. I soon learnt to keep it in its case. I absolutely love it though.
@@mrsoul4231oh that sounds very nice indeed. I’m not precious about guitars generally but I just think with Acoustics perhaps we need to be just a little bit more careful though I’m not sure! In any case I think a company likes string joy is quite a good resource because they deal with these alternate tunings all the time so you can describe the type of Guitar you have and then just ask what they would recommend as far as tension on the neck goes. that’s what I’m doing with them at the moment anyway so… I’ll let you know how it goes with them
@@mrsoul4231Cheers Neal - I’ve actually got one finished that I was going to redo, but now that I think about it. It’s good enough! It’s another acoustic number
Hi Oliver - was definitely an acoustic I think. I have the book ‘Rolling Stones gear’ and it mentions the guitar by name think. I’ll have a look later…think it was a Gibson guitar, perhaps a Dove. Though I could be wrong 🧐
@@0liver0verson9 checked the book (bible!) Oliver - they got the dove in 1965 and even use the same one on the 2013 tour. But they also picked up a Gibson SJ-200 in 1968 and there’s a couple of photos of Brian Jones playing it around that time including in the sympathy for the devil session. So it might be that one. Not sure though. If you do find out exactly what Kotara was do let me know I love this stuff!
@@0liver0verson9 absolutely! Grab that book, it might be about 60usd but it’s comprehensive, massive and well written. Great descriptions and pics of all the guitars used as well. It’s a treasure.

great lesson, full of nuance, thank you

Could you one day teach how to play Mick Taylor's slides in the song Silver Train?
