Excellent!! Love knowing about what I've always heard in this song, and wondering how they did it! It means a lot to me to be shown how! I can't believe I'm getting all this for free!!! I'm continually humbled by what you've given to us (so far) for the past 10 years, and you still continue, to this day!!! Thank You!!!!
Great video. I love how the Stones use 3 or 4 basic chords in their songs, or so it seems, but when you dig a little deeper and it's so much more creative than just the basics!
Your ability to pick out these unusual chord voicings is a great.gift you have. And are sharing with.guys like me who lack that ability. At almost 60 I have become a much better player with your great instructions. Thanks JJ
I love these lessons, when you take us through your methodology of how you make your conclusions. Really interesting. I often put on the record and I can match your comments to what I’m hearing. Really enjoyable, even if I struggle to to play it myself. But I keep trying. Thanks JJ
Awesome and thanks so much. I played the slide part with a buddy about 40 years ago. No idea how he did the rhythm. This is a great song and I will be practicing and singing along with it over the next week. Thanks for your inspiration!
James has the best ear on You tube! The go to man when you know what you’ve been playing for 40 years isn’t quite right. Keith Richards and Jimmy Page probably follow James James to remember what they themselves originally did.
Really great. I remember when this album was first released and thought I had a head start on learning how to play all the songs because they were all in the key of E or A. Those were the only chords I knew!
Thanks for the great lesson ... Just purchased a Hummingbird myself and of course am polishing up on my Stones songs. This way sounds great on mine as well!
You are a master. These are the nuances that people gloss over. You cant just strum the "cowboy" chords on this song. That harmonic isn't there. It's what makes Keith great. He plays it on "Rock and Roll Circus" another way. You have the closest to the album Ive heard.
Just watched a video of a live performance of this one probably early 90s, Mick's out front with acoustic, looks like Keith has 335 and Wood playing slide. Awesome performance, Keith and Ronnie doing the weaving
Good lesson! He's using 2 guitars, and overdubbing. One in standard, the other in drop D. Listen to the 5 bottom notes before he plays the E chord at the end of the intro. There's a drop D note in that riff/fill. Hear it?
I wish we could hear the keith riff "Japanese thing" that jagger took moonlight mile from.. Would love to see how they got from point A to point B on that
Hi j I nice way to play the e chord on the fourth fret is this: Bar down the fourth fret but leave low e open Put index finger on 5th fret b string Put ring finger on 6th fret d string Put pinky on 7th fret A string Strum all 6 strings leaving low e open Hard but manageable...I thought that open e chord u hit with your pinky on the high e string 5th fret was insanity🤪
Well last contribution that was actually worth something. He played a few things on the Let It Bleed album. But I will always say this is my favorite slide guitar on any song. It just encapsulates the whole song so well.
I was watching the whole like usual and this is going to sound stupid but the opening E A the way it's played for this song reminds me of the opening for the song "Walk on the Wild side". Do you think Lou got that from this song? Great lesson as usual. Thank you.
How do you hit the G# on the high E while fingering an E major? I have large hands but can’t get my pinkie past the 3rd fret without my ring finger coming off the D string
I wish I had your hearing. I cannot distinguish notes. I can tell a side to side comparison that one is different from another. But I cannot tell you what note/chord it is.

Genny cream ale. Takes me back to high school beer parties in the 70’s.
Man you taught me so many songs! Your Stones sound is spot on👌Thanks JJ!🙏
I love you James its even more beautiful when u see it you unlock his genius for me
He figured it out. God bless those ears of yours! Thank you ! That sounds exactly like the record man. Awesome job

Excellent analysis and explanation, per usual.
I love these lessons, when you take us through your methodology of how you make your conclusions. Really interesting. I often put on the record and I can match your comments to what I’m hearing. Really enjoyable, even if I struggle to to play it myself. But I keep trying. Thanks JJ

You are really brilliant at analyzing these songs, and I know it is not easy.

Spot on!!! I love this song Thank you for another outstanding demo. Yours r the best!
Hi James, from Brazil! It makes total sense, because the second chord with the high E is actually a Amaj7. Congratulations!!
Good. Brian's last shining moment.
U r absolutly right. It`s in standard tuning. Live, he always played it in standard t. Good work as always.
U r my go too for authentic play. Ur ear is uncanny! Perfect Pitch thanks man!
That Hummingbird just rings and rings
That thing has sustain. You could probably go out for a bite and it'd still be ringing.
Don't point! You've seen enough of that one.
Probably has “the ole tagger on it”
James...another excellent lesson again ! Thank you.
Lonnng-time follower here.
Thanks; this is my favorite vid yet!
I was 17 when Beggar's Banquet came out.
What an album that is.
That is great the way you figured out those chord voiceings, You really are good. Thanks again!
Thanks for the great lesson ... Just purchased a Hummingbird myself and of course am polishing up on my Stones songs. This way sounds great on mine as well!

late reply but this is what i love about james. he plays it right
I thought the Circus version superlative.
It is standard and you nailed the chords. I bought the Hot Rocks Stones music book years ago that purports to have authentic chords and tab.
Just great work! Thanks for all you do.
Thx again for a killer tune my friend.😊🎶
Genny Cream Ale. Was on tap at the Marshall House (RIP) Boston, Mass for years.
Thanks for the lessons!

Perfect , wow , every stones lesson gives me a greater appreciation for keith, thanks
This is perfect...would be nice to have a lesson on Brian's slide part.
Good lesson! He's using 2 guitars, and overdubbing. One in standard, the other in drop D. Listen to the 5 bottom notes before he plays the E chord at the end of the intro. There's a drop D note in that riff/fill. Hear it?
Cool tune, my friend and I play this, he plays the dobro
Thanks for the ideas, I will incorporate them. Love the lessons
That intro E to A is VERY Moonlight Mile, I can see that riff inspiring MM
I wish we could hear the keith riff "Japanese thing" that jagger took moonlight mile from.. Would love to see how they got from point A to point B on that
Thanks for the insights on figuring out which tuning the songs are in, quite interesting...
The storms will always Rock
Awesome. That's one of the first songs I learnt by ear, just the open chords of course. But instead of the A with the B string open I used Esus4.
If my memory serves me well, the version of this in Gimme Shelter is quite amazing. The imagery.
5:05 That note you don't know is a high G#!👍
He DOES know what it is. He said he didn’t know what CHORD it was. He later realises it’s an AM7 , and plays it with a different voicing!
Brilliant !!!!
Cool guitar.
Definitely, you can see Keef playing in that position on the live version. Mick plays the straight chords, Ronnie playing slide parts.
Luv it! You the man! Thank you!!!
Hi j
I nice way to play the e chord on the fourth fret is this:
Bar down the fourth fret but leave low e open
Put index finger on 5th fret b string

Parachute woman just came to me one day but Grt Expctns didnt, so thanks.
great sleuthing! think you got it
Hello Jimmy James have not been here for awhile I really miss this sht
Jones’s last contribution. Beautiful stuff
Well last contribution that was actually worth something. He played a few things on the Let It Bleed album. But I will always say this is my favorite slide guitar on any song. It just encapsulates the whole song so well.
It was Jones Swansong. The lyrics seem to fit him. And maybe that's why he tried so well. on this song.
Yes, his last meaningful contribution.
loveit. thank you
Great lesson dude
I was watching the whole like usual and this is going to sound stupid but the opening E A the way it's played for this song reminds me of the opening for the song "Walk on the Wild side". Do you think Lou got that from this song? Great lesson as usual. Thank you.
to me the chords are E and then ;Amaj7 nice work .song just verses no chorus just a dreamy line .
Yeah A maj 7 at that one point.
Thanks,man you're good
This is great, Sounds amazing. What is the strumming pattern?
It's an Amaj7.
Merci, thank you
thank you .........
I think you got it...as usual.
How do you hit the G# on the high E while fingering an E major? I have large hands but can’t get my pinkie past the 3rd fret without my ring finger coming off the D string
Nice shirt
hi guys i'm french beginner and this is the best lesson i see on youtube but i don't understand all the chords, can someone do a summary?
tanks!
G E N I O
A at 11? Mine only goes up to 10....
Why did Keith have to write half their songs drunk or stoned? That chord is so unusual and funky to play.
I wish I had your hearing. I cannot distinguish notes. I can tell a side to side comparison that one is different from another. But I cannot tell you what note/chord it is.
Dang it. Been playing it wrong 4 years.
Nah, there’s no wrong way. Keith has done it a few different ways over the years.
Can se a little of what Keith is playing during Ro k and Roll Circus

That's completely different from the album version. At the Circus, they changed the key to A instead of E.
What happened to Scarlet?
UA-cam took it down.
レギュラーチューニングではないのでは?キースはオープンEで弾いていると推測します。
標準チューニング
Do you think you could review another Zep bootleg (maybe the two knebworth shows) like you did with Listen to this Eddie?
Probably about time I did another bootleg commentary.
James James Awesome. Would love to hear your in-depth opinion on the two shows and the 79 period in general.
Who even knows these songs but a guitar player.
Seriously
How the hell are you able to get an open e chord with your pinky on the g# at the fourth fret, it is literally impossible for me to finger that
Keep practicing slow and repeditively and you will get it done.
