Hi Dianna. Round boards are great. especially on the turntables (no corners sticking out and getting in the way!). I just tend to use square boards as I find they are easier to buy or cut. Quite a few of mine are light weight, wooden cutting boards :)
Love this, and I thank you for it. I have to say that the music is not necessary, and since your voice is so soft, I have the volume turned way up, then the music blares in my ear!! I was constantly turning the volume up & down.
Thanks Terry. I've had a few comments about the volume between music and voice so I'm looking into how to improve it for future videos. Still learning lots about editing videos 😏
Thank you so much for this video! I have a pottery class tomorrow with a teacher that does not teach. So I didn't know what to do with this idea I have, and now I do :) Do you have any tips for how to make a lid for a bowl like this? Also about the same size. Thanks so much! Greetings, Julie
Hi. So glad it was helpful. There's a couple of main options for a lid I think depending on the style you would like. For a flat lid (and a quicker build) you could make a simple slab lid cut to fit the bowl with a small coil around the inside edge underneath to slot into the bowl and hold the lid in place. You'll need to let the lid dry off the bowl though so it doesn't dip in the middle as it's a wide piece of clay. The second option is to coil a lid pretty much like the bowl but in reverse/upside down. Again put a coil on the inside edge to slot into the bowl underneath so the lid doesn't just slip off. You can build directly on the bowl once it has dried a little (halfway towards leather hard I'd suggest) just be careful that you don't join them together when you're blending. I would make a shallower shape but that's a style choice and to be honest you can make whatever shape you'd like with this method :) Have fun.
Unfortunately this is a tricky question to answer... I left it progressively longer as I went up the build to avoid the bottom slumping as I added coils. The exact time will always depend on the clay that you are using, you'll have to wait longer for wetter clay although it will blend much easier. I have to admit, I tend to be impatient and use a heat gun/paint stripper to dry coils in between to make sure it's ready for the next section 🙈
Hi. My foot ring is one coil thick and my coils are around 12mm diameter. I usually use a long coil which I place around the edge of the base until it's all the way round and then trim it to size.
Thanks ☺️ Unfortunately I can't edit videos once they're uploaded on UA-cam and these ones with the sound problems tend to be my early uploads, sorry 😔 beginners editing mistake. I now check audio levels when I'm editing so it shouldn't be a problem for later uploads...
Do you roll your coils? Sometimes air can be trapped in the coils as they're rolled when the clay folds over. If it's during the making it might be worth trying more slip between the coils as you build or maybe use wetter clay to build with. It will mean it takes longer to build as you won't be able to build as fast though. Let me know if it works but without seeing how you personally build those would be my suggestions. Hope it helps.
Sister may i can build like this? Where is the soil available i am staying in Bombay city should u advice me some i am 63 years old. & entrested in such art.
Hi. I don't know suppliers in India but I was able to find this online www.sarashop.in/ Hopefully they can help with supplies. Clay, some basic modelling tools and somewhere with a kiln to fire pieces for you would get you started ☺️
Sorry about that. This is one of my earliest videos and my editing skills weren't great. I'm still working on my editing but will make sure I'm more careful with the audio levels in future.
Thank you ❤
Such a beautiful bowl! I would never thought this would be possible without a pottery wheel! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this wonderful video, made a bowl I’m very pleased with!
Great video with beautiful results. Thank you for posting.
You're welcome 😊
Thanks! You gave me the confidence I needed to make a big bowl at home. Love the way you begin the bowl (how to make the foot!)
It's so lovely to hear this 😊
Cool... Enjoyed your video. Got good pointers. Can't wait to try. Thank You for sharing.
Beautiful bowl! I know what I am going to do today. Thanks bunches Paula ❤
Wonderful! Thanks ☺️
Beautiful!!!! Thank you for this tutorial!!

You're very welcome 😊
Great work! ❤❤❤
Thanks ☺️
Excellent video! Thanks for the instruction.
Thanks so much for the excellent video!
Great video, thank you!
On what kind of tissue do you roll your coils? Love the video!
I roll out on an old pillow case 😄
HI Paula, i love watching your videos. I noticed that you use a square board, but I favor round boards on the turn-table.

You make this look easy and I see the mistakes I have made while coil building.
Glad it was helpful 😊

Merci beaucoup pour cette démonstration très instructive. (je vis en Bretagne, nous sommes voisine et cousine😉)
Merci 😊

Each time you added coils how long did you wait for it to dry.

How thick is your foot ring and how do u know how long it has to be ?

Nice 👌👌👌
I love your work very much. The music is much louder than your voice and is so irritating. Any change you can lower the sound?❤️❤️❤️

Hi, when i use coil technique, i see alway have a lot air bubble in bowl wall :(

Can the turntable be of plastic?
Yes, any turntable is fine ☺️ if you don't have a turntable a board that you can turn works too but not quite so easily.

How thick is each coil?
They're approx 12mm diameter I'd say.
What ingredients name show me
I use Potterycrafts raku modelling clay ☺️
Hi
Hi 😊
the music disturbs a lot, sorry
Yes, sorry, it was one of my earliest videos and my editing skills have improved since 😏
I really LOVE the music! So full of joy! What is it?
I am sorry, I was enjoying watching the process but the awful incidental music just made it impossible to continue to watch.
Sorry about that. This is one of my earliest videos and my editing skills weren't great. I'm still working on my editing but will make sure I'm more careful with the audio levels in future.
