The world needs more teachers like you Karan. I wish I could learn under you. Thank you for making these elaborate videos for us who can't be a part of your classes. ❤️

Your studio is so beautifully organized! The dry sanding makes me nervous about silica dust. It looks like just a small amount, but wetting before sanding off bits might be nice.
Absolutely!! The only sanding is actually using a grinding stone, or sometimes my abrasive pads- and I normally encourage them to use water! I never allow kids to sand greenware- and when they use my grinder cart outside on their glaze fired pieces, they always use a mask!
Wonderful video. Wish you had mentioned it’s ideal to refine the surface of a piece before it gets bisque fired to avoid needing to sand and that sanding bisque ware should be done by wetting pot to avoid clay dust. It’s so hard getting people to break the bad habit relying on sanding instead of refining before firing. Without these safety habits clay dust is flying around the studio and settling into lungs.

Hello! I've been learnig so much from you. I wish I was a student at your school! Your class studio is so very nice, and well stocked. Can you tell me if it's alright to shake the small containers of glaze real well, or does it have to be stirred? Thank you 🙂
The reason I tell my students not to shake the jars of glaze is because inevitably someone won’t have screwed the lid on tightly and someone will shake it. The lid flies off and the glaze goes everywhere! If you’re in your own studio and have your own glazes, you won’t need to worry about that! 😉
Hey Karan thanks for the video. As a Potter i must say that i don't agree to some of the tutorials contents: 1. Glazes should be sieved after a long time of storage. 2. It is recommended to consider to delute glazes with some water not to apply them too thick. 3. I disagree with washing the bisqued ware after grinding sharp edges before glazing! This is not necessary, it is okay to blow away some dust but washing delays the process and you can't glaze after two hours of drying, because the piece would not adhere the glaze as intended, when it is still damp. 4. Don't dip a piece and spare the part you are holding it , that is not necessary, as it ruins the surface: 6 . there is absolutely no need for any metal tongues, as you better could pince the piece between e.g. index finger and thumb, then dip it, afterwards you can close the little fingerprint with one drip of glaze, this works perfect, and is much more fluently and elegant. 5. After dipping , make sure there are no Drops left inside of the pot. These Drops will easily result in ugly failures on the inner bottom of the piece. This is not shown nicely here. 6. It should to be recommended, that many glazes do not work well together or overlapped. Maybe some "ready to go" glazes you can purchase, are compatible( i never used one) but when you go and create your own glaze or take different Glaze types and try to put them together on one Pot you may experience them struggling each other ,causing big problems, started from shivering to crawling and many aspects of failure, this needs to be said here. I really appreciate the effort and intention of the video, thanks for the work. I am working as a professional studio Potter , for thirty years now. I never used a metal tongue to glaze a piece in my life, never used some "ready to go" glaze...
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, Lars! As I was making this to teach my students specifically about my glazes we use specifically in my classroom, I didn't cover some of the things you mentioned. For instance, in a high school ceramics room setting... Imagine if I didn't tell my kids to rinse their pieces after they have ground off any rough areas. You probably can't imagine the kind of debris they leave all over their pieces. Of course they should not, but they do, so I am trying to protect my glazes from getting bits of their fired clay within my glazes. (Ask me how I know this...) ;). I never try to say that my ways are the only ways or always the best ways to do things all the time... but in my classroom, these are the ways that I find most helpful to my students to be successful and cause fewer issues.
@@KaransPotsAndGlass hey Karan, thanks for your quick answer! I know about the difference between school room and studio pottery, as i was teaching at school as well... Don't dip a piece and spare the part you are holding it , that is not necessary, as it ruins the surface:
6 . there is absolutely no need for any metal tongues, as you better could pince the piece between e.g. index finger and thumb, then dip it, afterwards you can close the little fingerprint with one drip of glaze, this works perfect, and is much more fluently and elegant.

After dipping , make sure there are no Drops left inside of the pot. These Drops will easily result in ugly failures on the inner bottom of the piece. This is not shown nicely here.

@@KaransPotsAndGlass hey Karan,
thanks for your quick answer!
I know about the difference between school room and studio pottery, as i was teaching at school as well... In Germany these school equipments are very low and quite rotten, anywhere you go, it's quite sad, cause we spend no money in our wealthy , but rotten neocon country for proper education...
We can only dream about such proper school equipment as shown in your video.
Great video! Can’t wait to see the results!!
Very useful video and you are amazing teacher. I really like your tutorial and love to learn fr you but its a shame I live in Australia.
Thank you so much
