It's funny that the early showtapes from the 70s and maybe early 80s has the chracters self aware about the fact there just animatronics plugged into a computer.

it wasnt remade munch just talked over crusty and added other things to the song. and i think the reason they removed the 4th wall joke is because the part chuck e said "crusty jasper" or they didnt want that part in
One part of the munch version has Chuck E using a voice line originally recorded for Crusty. Their voices are so similar that it isn't very noticeable unless you really listen for a change in Chuck's voice
