    I am growing my own seedlings for the TG but having any aweful time with the green moss. It covers the rockwool and things become very slimy. The plants seem to be doing ok, some of them anyway. I grow everything in my very spacious natural light filled basement but it is cold at 60 plus or minus.I am using a heat pad, no controls, just on an doff but I do use a thermometer and keep the under light area around 70ish). I have an Aerogarden 40w grow light on a stand, and a fan running on an auto timer for my TG that spins over to blow gently on the seedlings. The rockwool will dry out fast if I am not quick enough so I have been keeping a small amount of the nutrient water at the bottom of the tray hitting all the rockwool cubes. I don't plant as many seeds at one time as you do so the trays may only have 5 or 6 rockwool in it leaving more light getting to all sides of the rockwool. Could this be the cause of all the green moss? I am looking for trays with the inserts that will hold the entire rockwool without having to cut it up or squash it in. Not easy to find. Any thoughts for my issues? And thanks so much for all you do. I watch all the time and reference your info anytime I need a refresher or having issues. There is nothing like picking a salad for lunch within minutes of eating it. Lettuce and greens have never tasted so good!!

      Hi! So the moss is totally normal. It is just one of the things we have to deal with when started seeds indoors. It's harmless. You can cover your rockwool with vermiculite to cut it down. It when water, light and nutrients come together that the moss grows so cutting out the light with vermiculite helps. Brush it off before putting them in the tower to keep the vermiculite from making a mess if you do this. I just ignore the moss.

    Thanks so much for this video. I am new to your channel and am madly trying to watch your videos particularly about seed starting. So I think you answered my questions about the heat mat. I'm going, u don't need a heat mat cuz I'm in central Florida high humidity and high heat. But I think you seem to suggest that I would still need the mat and dome? Is that right?

    I have the sprouter kit and your trays I live in Arizona at get so much condensation. The Germinator does not look any closer to the rockwool. I only buy JP rockwool and it breaks apart a lot!

      Too much watering if your rockwool is breaking apart. This light was 10”, I measured after, but is too powerful. After testing it a day it was way too hot and cooking her plants.

    Sometimes I just use my sprout trays that I grow sprouts in the eat. Some seeds like peas and beans and other beans that easily mold or really any seed I can soak in water over night and then just let them sprout in my sprouting trays and then I can plant them in rock wool or whatever once it gets going. I honestly can sprout a seed in almost anything haha

    R u adding so many seeds because they will grow as microgreens?

      Baby green bundles. They make baby green bouquets to replace those expensive plastic tubs at the grocery store. 2 rockwool full is equivalent to a plastic tub from the grocery store when seeded this way and the bouquet is left to grow about 8” wide and 6-8” tall.

      I only know Tower Gardens. I haven’t tried anything else. I get this massive box and it brings the cost to around .08 per rockwool. tm65675.towergarden.com/us/en/shop/nutrients-and-supplies/rockwool-cubes-case-of-30-sheets

    That dome will create a greenhouse effect. . . just has to be sealed, I think the problem was moisture and the rock wool. You can germinate in a 5gal bucket. The condensation would form if properly sealed. Just tape it or use soil/monitor water. Honestly being able to add a small fan for circulation as the plants grow which can help survivability outdoors makes it ideal for seed to transplant term germination with very little work involved.

    How long do you leave the dome and heat mat on ?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  10 місяців тому

      I leave the heat mat and light on until they go in the tower, which is when they have roots showing on all 5 sides. I take the dole off after they germinate. I water with plan water until the get true leaves then I water with nutrient water from my tower.
