from what i've read, Tom Hardy was quite unprofessional during the production, coming in late and annoying charlize, who was always on point. He also clashed with George Miller because nobody understood what Miller was doing and got frustrated. They only understood it when they watched it years later (movie was mostly made in 2012 and released in 2015)
Hardy was coming off Peaky Blinders and the Revenant playing a new role as post apocalyptic cowboy made famous by Mel Gibson. I'm positive he was a jerk to a blonde bombshell, no matter how awesome she is. It's thespian science.

Tom did pick and choose when to lash out on such occasions yet never boisterous or aggressively the two kids mentioned witnessed all or most altercations. Including behind the scenes
