Eve Online - Lowlight's Basics of Mining in a Wormhole

  • Some of my Eve Online corpmates asked me how I operate in a Wormhole without getting killed all the time so I put together this video to braindump during a mining run. This was actually the second video I recorded because the first time someone showed up in a covert ops ship and I decided to "bravely run away."

    Tip, when you see two lines connecting two possible annomalies put the probe in the middle of the line in both directions, its way faster. Thanks for the video

      @lowlight47 don't put it in the middle. Put it in the circle that's the furthest away from ur center probe. Trust

      @@rafaXDlol123 Thanks for watching and commenting! That's the way I've done things most of the time, but I thought I'd try out the middle method and it doesn't feel that much faster for me so I'm still doing the farthest node method. Maybe some of it is muscle memory for clicking the node to center it and moving the cube to center on it. As always in Eve, lots of ways to do things.

    D-scan's filter does not necessarily have to correspond to your overview tab filter. You can set a filter independently and be on whatever Overview tab you like. As you should.

    Just a correction, low class relic and data sites with no sleepers will not damage your ship if the can explodes. The can will blow up after two failed hacks though, that was correct

    • @lowlight47
      @lowlight47  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember when it would damage your ship. I may have been thinking of something like you said with the sleepers or when I was in a Lesser data site and the timer ran out so I got blown up.

    Year old video but just a self-training observation. When you talk during the video you stop hitting DSCAN.

    • @lowlight47
      @lowlight47  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! Clearly you paid really close attention. I'm sure some people would say that I Dscan too much but it comes down to how paranoid you want to be. You're never going to be 100% sure that no one else is around since someone could pop into the system outside dscan range and cloak up before they are in range or they could have been in system and cloaked before you got in. It doesn't take long to swap from your "gate" cloak to your covert ops cloak so they could easily do that between dscan pulses. That's where keeping an eye on your overview and having a quick align time will hopefully cover the gap a bit more. Even then you're still not 100% assured of escape. This is Eve afterall. However if you make it out with a full mining hold a couple times, you've likely paid for your ship.

    Aligning does nothing when you're stationary.

      @lowlight47  8 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching! Yup I've heard that since I uploaded this video. I still hear it from players too. I've never tested it myself but it's good practice to make sure your alignment path is clear so you don't start bouncing off a rock while trying to align.

    I'm considering getting into living in a WH I day trip often for exploration and gas huffing but I have never lived in one full time. What are your thoughts on expedition frigates and are barges worth the risk of getting ganked? I am very solid d-scan and general situational awareness would that matter as to barge viability and are belt rats too much for a tanky barge fit to fend off with combat drones? Sorry for all the questions I am just curious about taking the step from living in low and day tripping WH to actually living in one.

      Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I started playing in July 2022 and spent a handful of months as an Alpha in HS near where I started out. I now operate out of a HS island surrounded by LS.
      I have no experience living in a WH but I imagine that you'll have to step your Dscan and Situational Awareness more since you can't watch Local for who is in the system with you. You'll also have to sort out the logistics of getting supplies in and out of there.
      So far I haven't bothered to fight off the WH rats and was doing my mining in a Venture I was willing to lose. I recently went in with a Prospect to huff gas. It can't carry drones and I was running 2 scoops so fighting wasn't an option. I previously spent a few hours mining Ore in a WH with a couple friends. 2 of us were in Ventures and one brought a Mack. We saw some stuff on Dscan and bailed out. The Mack pilot had left an alt in a Venture and it didn't get attacked so he brought the Mack back in. It got ganked. I'm just getting my resources and comfort level up to the point where I'm going to try fighting off rats in Gas/Ore sites so I can keep harvesting but I haven't yet. You can look up what will spawn in each site so you can judge how much DPS you need to dish out and survive. wiki.eveuniversity.org/Wormhole_space but running the numbers isn't quite the same as experiencing it.
      Thanks again for watching. Stay tuned for more.

      Don't forget that recon ships can not be seen on D-Scan since they have an immunity to it. And if they use a cloaking device too, you will never know, if they are there, so be careful in any case.

    • @lowlight47
      @lowlight47  Рік тому

      @@esmolol4091 Very good point! Staying on top of Dscan will help you catch one if they mess up getting or keeping their cloak up but a well trained and well equipped hunter might get the drop on you no matter what. Being aligned and ready to click warp is even more important for escaping those. Sometimes it won't be your day no matter what. Fly safe.

    • @TFNE9426
      @TFNE9426 Рік тому +1

      Barges are not worth it unless you can close the wormhole up to huff(roll all the holes and watch for new sigs). Prospect is best for day trippers because of the hold size. You get 2.5 times more gas than a venture and have cloak. You lose the double warp stab of the venture though.

      This is the way. Thanks for watching and the comment. I lost an Endurance to some gankers on a HS ice field the other day. Lots of shoulda, coulda, woulda hindsight afterwards but the reality was that ship had long since paid for itself so I wasn't that bothered by it other than the annoyance of having to make a trip to market to replace it.

      Thanks for watching. Maybe they don't want to feel cut off like being on an island and all the logistics that come with it. I lived on a HS island for a while surrounded by hostile LS and it was a pain. We used WH to get out a lot of the time.

      Glad you liked it. Once this passed the point where the rats should have shown up, I started to wonder what I was going to say to keep it interesting if it went the two hours it would take to fill the hold. Every 5 min I called out the amount mined, how much it was worth and whatever other "rambling" came to mind. It took a couple weeks for me to get around to doing the editing. I recorded my Abyssal videos right after I was done with this one and decided to upload them first.
      I have some ideas for other videos so stay tuned. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

      Oh I realized I didn't answer your question about 1M in 15min ... I'm pretty sure I get more ISK/min huffing Malachite Mykoserocin in a Wild Nebula or Blackeye Nebula out in Highsec normal space and there are more valuable gases you can find in a WH. However I'm not just playing for ISK/hr.

    is it possible to take out the rats with the drones?

    • @lowlight47
      @lowlight47  Рік тому

      That's a question I haven't tried to answer yet. I'm not sure you could stay far enough away in a Venture and still be able to get lock and control your drones. The targetting range for a Venture is under 20km so you'll start taking damage before you can send your drones in and pull range. Some of the ships could web you and then you could be stuck. Here's a site that has links to the different Ore sites in each class of WH and what kind of rats you can expect including their DPS and what kind of eWar they'll use against you. wiki.eveuniversity.org/Wormhole_space

    • @lowlight47
      @lowlight47  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. "All that for 1 mil isk?" Yes for the sake of a demo. Remember that ore value will go up once it's compressed. When I was an Alpha pilot trying to get minerals to build things I often found WH space to be quieter than Lowsec or Nullsec. That being said, I don't really mine ore in WH space that often anymore. Arkonor, Bistot, and Gneiss can be found in Nullsec or Lowsec. Also the minerals from those ores can be found other ways (scrapping modules/ammo or ore anomalies). When I go into a WH now I'm usually looking to collect Gas.
