I agree on the book lover vs Satan thing but I’ve seen WAY TOO MANY LIBRARY BOOKS DEFILED BY DOG EARING. Yes, it’s fine if it’s someone’s personal book, but I don’t appreciate when people do that to books they do not own.
When I borrowed the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series, one of them had a chunk of page missing. Luckily it didn’t take off any words, but it was close.
Yes!! I remember I borrowed a book that was completely wrinkled from water damage and had food and drink stains and creases all over it! I'd never been so sad while reading a happy book!
Murder by Tomes I had that too with the first page of a book and it was missing quite a few words but I’d read it like a hundred times so I was able to fill in the blanks
Book with the cover of the bad film....*cough* city of bones *cough* I would mention Percy Jackson but I don’t believe any of us have time for that rant 😂😂😂
Me in a bookstore Mum: come on we gotta go Me: *reading the blurb of a book* yup, hold on Mum: are you done? Me: *is reading the blurb of a another book* one sec........ok I’m done Mum: do you wanna get anything? Me: no (what? I need to read the hundreds of books I have but haven’t got to reading yet) Mum: *stares at me like a weirdo*
In my class we are reading a book SO slowly shhh I may have read the book 4 times in the time we read one chapter and there are kid complaining about how fast we are reading and hey I won’t judge but it is a HONOR classs
I feel this but I get why sometimes some people have reading rates slower then me. I just don’t read along with the class during read aloud I read in my head on my own.
This happened to me all the time in school, especially in 10th grade. Once I finished the story while we were still reading in class (I think it was the Scarlet Letter), so I just put the book aside and started my writing assignment. I finished it before the day was over so I was able to go home and read more.
I feel this in 5th grade my teacher decided to be my favorite and had my class read percy Jackson (I had loved percy Jackson so I was happy I would be able to talk about it more in class) so I decided to reread the whole series the class was maybe 5 chapters in and I finished tlo like really!
I love when the title of the book only starts making sense while you're reading, it's like an inside joke only the readers get. I think my favorite is ''The Fault in our Stars'' because it's not only an inside joke but also a Shakespeare reference. Oh and about movie covers...I usually hate them with a passion, but for some reason I love the movie cover of ''Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief'' that I have, even though I hate the movie. But the cover is kinda cool so yeah
Carla Jaeger I almost wrote TFIOS too lol and about the movie covers on books, tbh for me it doesn’t even matter if the movie was bad or good. If the original cover was beautiful, I get super annoyed when they slap on the movie cover. Like I loved the movie version of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (maybe because I haven’t gotten around to reading the book yet, idk) but when I went to go buy the book, I kept finding copies with the movie cover when all I wanted was the original cover.
THAT BOOK RANT THOUGH I’M SO GLAD YOU RANTED TOTALLY HERE FOR IT I STAN but seriously though, just because you do a certain thing with your book, doesn’t make you any less of a reader. being a reader, (gasp) just entails READING BOOKS. nothing more, nothing less.
Your editing has gotten so much better! About two or three years ago I watched your videos because I loved you but I got bored very easily. Your editing and commentary was awesome in this video and its clear how hard you're working! Love you :)
😂😂I hate talking on the phone too Jesse! I always sound really stupid and then cringe to myself. I also love that you talked about the book "abuse" shaming. I personally don't dog ear because I have millions of book marks, but have recently been highlighting and writing to try and get more out of my read. I don't think it should be frowned upon if it is your own personal copy. Also, I love your videos!
When I finished the Uglies Trilogy (before it became a quartet), and the final word of each book was the title of the next one, and Specials ended with the word “ugly.” It just felt so satisfying and full circle!
Those who don’t highlight or write in their books are actually missing out. What’s more satisfying than highlighting/marking your favourite dialogues, quotes, moments, and writing your thoughts, reaction, or anything really, on the pages so you’ll know what your opinions on that book when you reread it again, especially when you’re older.
Sooo true!! You have those people who are so proud that they've kept their books pristine, clean, and crisp but to me it's it's not a book that is "well-lived" (Idk how to put it) and you it's sad when you don't capture thoughts and write them..
Keren ikr :) Mortimer Adler actually wrote something about it. “There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the standard sets and best-sellers-unread, untouched. (This deluded individual owns wood-pulp and ink, not books.) The second has a great many books-a few of them read through, most of them dipped into, but all of them as clean and shiny as the day they were bought. (This person would probably like to make books his own, but is restrained by a false respect for their physical appearance.) The third has a few books or many-every one of them dog-eared and dilapidated, shaken and loosened by continual use, marked and scribbled in from front to back. (This man owns books.)”
Herondale? Oh, wow, someone likes Cassie's books! Me too. I'm currently reading Lord of Shadows and it's *amazing* !!!!!!! I've heard someone dies though and I'ma be upset!😕
I feel like most John Green books fit for that last meme. His titles usually don't seem to be much more that pretty words, but when you actually read the book all the pieces fall together (The Fault In Our Stars, Turtles All The Way Down, Paper Towns, etc.)
I was so in tears when after reading ME BEFORE YOU I interpreted what the title meant. At first when I started the book I was like why is the title me before you shouldn't it be you before me as it is always said in romance novels but after I finished the book I related the title to the ending I wanted to die in a dark corner
I agree with the stopping of the book shamers EXCEPT as someone who's used the public library their whole life and volunteered there, dog ear-ing can ruin pages! 😭😭😭😭 I've seen pages with a huge triangle literally completely GONE from a page including the text, basically rendering it useless! The page was over-worn from that fold line and would tear really easily or just fall out. Book Tragedies...😭😭😭
"Jessethereader is my Pinterest name" Me: damn, I'm always to stupid to find users on Pinterest "Link in the description" Me:Yay! *looks in the description * Me: Damn I do have to try finding him myself...
I personally fold the corners of the pages of my books all the time. I love reading them back and seeing all the dog eared pages and knowing that I have flicked through these pages before. It makes my books feel more loved, I think, if they're well-read and not just shiny and new.
The thinng about dog-earing books for me is: I don't like it at all, so if it happens by accident I'm freaking out but I don't care about what other people do tbh. I used to highlight passages in my books and even though I don't do it anymore, I don't care if other people like it. What I noticed with my friends is that they hate on people that break the spine of books (especially paperbacks) and though it hurts me, seeing other people folding their books front to back while reading (I hope you understand what I'm saying), sometimes you just can't help it because the spines are simply too thin and will break even though you're super careful with them, and I still get hate for that like I did it on purpose and this sucks. Doing all this stuff with books you borrowed from other people is shitty, but doing this with your OWN books is your decision!
You know what's worse than book with movie covers, the fact that even when you bought them in Kindle with the original cover, they will change it no matter what! I want my Wonder cover back :(

I always felt attacked for dog-earing my books or underlining passages. But I don't want to stop. I always do it when I'm reading and find this sentence that just hits me for some reason or that I find so well written that I want to save it. When I finish the book I write down all the quotes/passages in a notebook that has become a collection of beautiful sentences. Whenever I need inspiration I can take the notebook, open it randomly and find those inspirational words
booktube videos have a very homey feeling. Especially yours. you know its a good day when you have time to just sit on the couch and watch booktube videos for a while.
Dog ear the pages of my book fine I am a bit mad But one time a let someone borrow my book and I saw them fold the book so that the covers met behind the book folded in half I never let them borrow my book again
I see people doing that and I literally can’t imagine doing that to one of my own books. I don’t even understand what the point is. How do you read the bent page on the left ? And doesn’t it only work on skinny books ?
‘A room without books is like a body without a soul’ Coming from the man who kept a bowl of chickpeas in every room this is quite wise. Yes, Cicero the Chickpea, I’m looking at you.
I have friends that love reading so we all just rush in a bookstore or a library even if can't get anything souly because we want to enjoy the aura of that place
About bending over to mark the page, I have several friends who don't bend the page of their own books but are fine with doing it to library books. That's my problem with it, and I could never bring myself to do that
Honestly all three of the The Darkest Minds books play with the name. Especially in In The Afterlight when Ruby says: “Afterlight, it’s a sky that wants you to guess if the sun is about rise or set.” That’s the line that stood out to me:)

Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. I had to read it over summer for my English class. I was literally 75% done with the book when I actually understood the title. Lol.
All of my books get destroyed because I love them so much. I crave a deep relationship with my favorite books, so writing in them, annotating, highlighting, illustrating scenes, etc; is really just my way of connecting even more with my books.
Many people in my school have wished that the Percy Jackson series is available in the school library. Now we have it... ITS WITH THE COVER OF THE FILM
"I'll have like this list of 50 things to get done." Same. I make these lists and what do I do? Scroll through Pinterest for bookish memes and read instead of actually writing or going through my list. :) Great video as always :)
More Than This by Patrick Ness when the book started talking about that there is more to where they live in. Coming Out by Danielle Steel where there were 2 meanings of coming out.
ahh for the title thing! most are obvious and I can guess, but the “title reveal” for Heartless (which i read recently) was.. interesting but made sense. I didn’t think it’d be literal but it worked😂
I overslept once and walked I to work an hour late and the first thing my boss said was "what book were you reading?" 😆

That’s my mom when I get all grumpy from lack of sleep 😂

6:14 Please, which booklover has a bookmark? Every booklover i know uses everything as a bookmark except for a bookmark.
HaH true. I keep using rulers and pencils for bookmarks and it drives my mom crazy
I use tissues
I once used my bus card and I lost it haha
I am a huge bookworm and i got a really nice bookmark (My weekend is booked) so i use it all the time

Lol that’s so me
Dog-earing is fine as long as you don't do it to a library book (I speak from personal experience)
1:37 whenever I read Rick Riordan's books I always think it's more story at the end, it never is, it's always a glossary 😂
I KNOW RIGHT!!!?
I was literally about to comment that 😂
YES! Its so annoying!
I was just reading the death cure and there were 3 book previews in the back
The pain.
In my class we are reading a book SO slowly shhh I may have read the book 4 times in the time we read one chapter and there are kid complaining about how fast we are reading and hey I won’t judge but it is a HONOR classs
Lunarcat Lord07 my mood tbh
Lunarcat Lord07 well I mean I’m in advanced classes and I read super slow so I get how that kid feels 😂.

The thinng about dog-earing books for me is: I don't like it at all, so if it happens by accident I'm freaking out but I don't care about what other people do tbh. I used to highlight passages in my books and even though I don't do it anymore, I don't care if other people like it. My friends insist that I will be the person to bring a book to prom.
They might not be wrong.....
My school forbid us from bringing anything into school dances (they wanted to make sure we bought their snacks instead of bringing out own).
So we had to empty our pockets.
I stuck my book between my undershirt and my shirt and put a sweatshirt on top.
Dances don’t have the best lighting though....

Red Queen (the whole series) is one of the books that made sense about the title in middle of the book
I just dropped everything when you started singing hsm songs and started singing with you 😂

"Every room I enter, has a book in it, bc I bring the books with me." I love that quote
For me, a room without books would be the kitchen because I would worry about food stains and the stream from cooking ruining the book. And the bathroom because of all the potential areas for water damage.
Every single throne of glass book
