Sometimes I am so embarrassed for the characters, I need to take a break and take a walk around the room 😅. Or if something too exciting or sad happens
I honestly have so much respect for the DNF people. I physically can't, NOT finish a book, I'll just force myself to read whatever hell it is, just so I won't feel defeated 😂
I do that, and when I just CAN'T finish the book I'll leave it and continue reading it several months or even years later (happened with Treasure Island more than 3 times already). Or else I'll get a looooong reading slump 💀
I used to be force myself to finish books I didn't like until I came across one that made me so uncomfortable, I had to quit. I DNF every now and then, but I don't make that decision unless I'm halfway through the book first.
I DNFed 2 books today. If I'm just not in the mood for a book, I tag it as "return to this" on my storygraph. If it's because I genuinely dislike the book, I feel no guilt.
Listening to an audiobook whilst crafting is my absolutely ideal situation. Props to the person who’s ambitiously trying to read with their eyes and embroider at the same time.
Yes! Audiobook while knitting/crocheting/sewing I can do. But actually reading?! I still don't understand how despite having met someone who does. (They said they hold the book open with their toes so their hands are free to knit. And all I can think is how uncomfortable that'd be after a while)
Those 24/7 live train videos i like listening to them.and when they stopped on a station, thats my cue to have a break on reading. Its like a reading sprint! 😂😅
Way back in the oldie days, my junior high school English teacher told me that I should always be reading 3 books; a work of fiction to spark the imagination, a work of history to educate wisdom, and a work of poetry to flame the heart. I will read a book while simultaneously listening to its audiobook; especially if the setting for the book has a unique English dialect or regional vocabulary where hearing it is easier to process than to read it.
Not a weird reading habit, perhaps more a toxic trait, but I tend to write elaborate reviews and analyses in my head while reading, and then when I'm done I seem to be incapable to form a coherent phrase and my reviews are always just like 'this book was so good' or 'this wasn't for me'.
WTF THIS IS ME!!!! So weird i swear! I write paragraphs in my head but when I’m done it’s just like “yep 3 star it was okay” “4 star really enjoyed this”. So now, I’ve began to write a review in my notes app while I’m reading so that when I’m done I can have a proper review.
When I was younger (around 10 years old), I read Harry Potter and I used to memorize the page number instead of using a bookmark. Even if I stopped mid-chapter (which happened quite a lot as I was a slow reader). And I found it easy ! I don't think I could still do it now (I'm 29) 😅 but I don't care because I have a collection of pretty bookmarks that I love to use 😊
There was a time I could close a book and pick it up later, opening it to the exact page (or within 2-3 pages of that mark) just by intuition alone. (I could never remember page numbers for the life of me thanks to dyscalculia) but now? I Need that bookmark in place or I'm lost. (Though this may be because I don't read as often anymore. Back then I was devouring several books a day, now I'm lucky if my brain stays focused long enough for one a week. Which is why I've switched to audiobooks lately)
Welp, I USED to only keep track of the pages I’ve read for the year, but NOW I’m going to have to do a daily chart for 2024 because that’s just a top notch idea! Thanks, Jesse! 😂
I also count pages how many pages are in a chapter! Especially if I’m reading at night. It helps to validate the “just one more chapter!” Part of me. I don’t necessarily memorize the page number I stopped at, but I remember what was happening and roughly where I was in the book physically and can find my place pretty quickly. I didn’t have bookmarks reading as a kid, and now that I’m an adult with plenty of bookmarks, half the time they are strewn about the house and I don’t know where the one I want is 😂
I am also a member of the "stretch out the legs" club. I bought one of those giant circle chairs and, because I'm short, I can either curl up or stretch out --- best purchase ever! Edit: Also, to anyone wanting to keep track of their reading time, I highly recommend the Read More app! Best reading app I've ever used
I'm always reading a lot of books at the same time. However, so I don't mix up the stories I differentiate them by languages 😂 It' between English, Finnish, Swedish and Japanese. Although, with Japanese it's audiobooks only because reading is too difficult 🙈
I think mine has to be that if I'm reading a really exciting part of a book and I'm a little scared of what's going to happen, I go to the end to see how the book ends😂🤭 I haven't google to see if a character survived but when I was younger and love triangle was populare in fantasy books. I sometimes google it to see who end up with who😂 I kind of hate angsty stuff 🤭🤭
Whenever I finish a book, I always flip it to the very very last page, then close it so the back cover is facing me, and I just let out a breath and feel proud of myself for some reason lol
Since 2016 I've been writing down my reading progress in a notebook. Then I started writing down pages and month I read them. Every year when I set my book goal, I set a page goal too! So now I have several years of every book I read in the year, how many pages they were, and what month I read them in. :)
Ooh, the one with the one eye open while reading on the side is something I do too! It's because the closed eye is touching the pillow, it would be uncomfortable to open it. Does that make sense? The problem for me is that I am very short-sighted on my right eye, so I can only do it on one side. So can't switch the open eye, can't switch the side position. And that gets tiring after a while haha.
1. I'm also one of those people who will wait until the whole series is out before I start reading it. I don't binge read it though. In fact, I don't like binge reading or binge watching anything. 2. I actually don't drink anything while reading. In the past I used to make myself a cup of tea but I found out that sipping the tea took me out of the story of the book and so I broke the habit. 3. I'm also very picky about my environment when I am reading. It has to be 100 % quiet, no people whatsoever and for the most part I can read only at home or in closed spaces at best. 4. I usually set a timer/alarm on my phone for when I should stop reading. Often I would have to go out or do something after my reading time or my bedtime is about to arrive and in order to not have to be constantly distracted by the thought about all that, I just set a timer and that helps me relax.
I am in the criss cross applesauce, stretched legs, AND walking while reading club. I usually alternate what position I'm sitting in after anywhere between 5-20 minutes (depending on how physically demanding my position is) unless I'm so intensely into a book that I've zoned out of everything else completely and then I don't move for ages, but that typically only happens during climactic parts. My mom laughs so hard at some of the positions I cycle through when I'm reading--nothing is off the table. I read in criss cross applesauce, while walking in circles around the couch, with one leg extended and the other bent, in the splits, in pigeon pose, in cockroach position on my back with my legs in the air, in downward facing dog if I can find that thing that holds my book open, etc... Nothing is off the table, honestly, but I don't think its a bad thing since I feel like a) it's good for my body because I can really get my stretching in and b) it helps me stay focused so I don't veer off into unrelated trains of thought with my ADHD if I switch things up periodically. The sensation of a stretch helps me stay focused too since I'm getting a little extra stimulus from that. Also sidenote since you were asking about walking while reading vs. clumsiness: I am genuinely a very coordinated person. I've been doing dance since I was 3 years old, and I have a very good awareness of my body in space, so that probably helps. It's also easier if you're familiar with the environment and it's not too crowded (landmarks don't move, but people do and you don't always know where they'll be). I can walk and read at the same time in unfamiliar environments but it does require a little more multitasking energy since you have to pay attention to other people in the back of your mind constantly.
My weird habit is reading very quickly. Not skimming or speed-reading, I'm totally understanding the content, but I can read very fast. I read Aurora's End (~530 pages) in two hours out of sheer determination because I wanted to finish it before I had to go to bed for school the next day. also, hardcore relating to 14:09 with the invisible audience. Especially on rereads, I'll tell the characters when they're making a stupid decision (not just with books either, I find myself yelling at Star Trek characters a lot)
If I start to really like a book, I'll Google fanart after a few chapters. It helps me visualize the characters even better so I can focus more on the plot than trying to visualize every character or even place sometimes. Plus, I want to see the art of other ppl who are obsessing over the same book
The thing is I really love reading while walking home, because I live on a freaking hill and it usually takes me about 20 minutes to reach my house. So thanks to the reading I forget my surroundings ( without tripping or crashing into someone actually xD) and it feels like it only took me 5 minutes to reach my house. So that's pretty cool :D
if anyone has trouble keeping off their phone when reading or being productive, I downloaded the app Forest (its 3.99 I know im so sorry) but its helped me sooooo much, basically it has a little productivity tree and if you leave the app and go to another app the tree dies and i refuse to let my trees die so ive been reading soooo much. itll also allow you to make a list of allowed apps like messages or email or something incase of an emergency you won't lose your tree
One more comment here, but for those who want to keep track of how many pages they've read in the year, goodreads does that for you. If you go into my books and then click on reading stats, there's an option to see pages read in a year and a rough chart of how many pages you've read over time as well. That might be fun for you to look at :)
Mine wasnt in the video so ill put it here: I read two books at a time but i plan out the intervals. I count the chapters and make sure that both books jave the same number of intervals. It helps me read faster bc i get bored even if its a book I like so i switch and it motovates me to keep going to go back to the other book.
My reading quirk is that I accidentally quit breathing when I read. My friends say I literally stop breathing for a minute or so, and then I make small sigh/gasping noises when my body can't take it anymore. Apparently, I've been doing it for years, but I'm never aware of it when I do it. Also, I have to protect my book at all costs when reading it. This means I use a padded book sleeve to keep it safe when I carry it in bags, I try not to bend or crease the pages, and I 100% will put the book under my clothes to keep it from getting rained or snowed on while I get soaked. The book must be protected at all costs! Oh, and I also judge (and get disappointed) in an author if I see there's only a short amount of pages till the end but I know there's a butt-load of content still left to be written. It usually means that the author is rushing the ending. :C My friend has a weird reading quirk: she buys a new book, reads the ending, and *then* begins the book. She also reads a movie synopsis and spoilers before going to see a movie in theaters. I asked her what the point of that was and she said that she has no patience and needs to know the ending of the story first.
I rarely officially DNF so much as put a book down and just never get around to it again until such a long time has passed that I realize it's not happening. I have an uncanny ability to find where I left off in a book. No one gets to see or appreciate this but me. I also seem to be able to easily flip back to other portions while looking for a passage. Maybe the books the person reads out of order are in a series in a genre where there's not a strong plot or through line. A romance series can usually be read in any order with only mild spoilers. Or the Discworld books where people jump around all the time to read their favorite arcs. Well, I guess the arcs are sequential, but you can do this without struggling with what's come before. I read with only one eye opened. I close the left. Storygraph will easily give you the charts with the spikes on pages read, and other charts. OMG, I talk to an invisible audience too, sort of lecture it on the book. I also give history lectures to my audience. I do this silently. Mostly. My thing is that the more I like an author or series, the more I drag my heels in reading them. I like knowing these great books are ahead of me.
Only twice have I ever read a series out of order (Harry Potter & The Morganville Vampires 😅) when I was like 10-13. Purely because it was before my parents had amazon and didn't like going into town. So I could only buy what was available at our local(ish) bookshop which was The Works and stocked a very limited selection 😂 Loved hearing these!
9:45 Oooh. I do this too, it is so much fun trying to connect the dots and then reading the pervious book! It's like the pervious book would feel like a flash back to me and it's so much fun looking back at the characters and see how they were before the events of the next book. I say there is something super special about reading a series this way! It's like watching a reverse character arc. For example in a redemption arc you can watch them to go from redemption to evil. But I say the book needs to be wonderfully written for this trick to work!
I usually strongly dislike any kind of spoiler, but there was a moment in a book where I was crying uncontrollably and had to get confirmation whether a character had really died. I just couldn't read past that certain sentence until I was sure. Surprisingly, I haven't read that many off-screen deaths so haven't had that problem with other books.
I have a very similar habit to the first one. I can't finish a book if I care about the characters too much so I start another one until I cool of a little bit lol and then I finish the book. I almost always end up reading 5+ books at a time tho so... 😬
When I was a small one I would read in the car, I would read while walking to class (or just walking around in general), read under the covers with a flashlight... everywhere I went there was a book! Nowadays I keep my kindle on me instead of a physical book because it fits in my bag better. Also #teamcrisscrossapplesauce
My reading habit is that I love using highlighters to highlight and mark down sentences that made me think, are inspiring or funny or yeah just stuff like that in general. I also make sure to use a color that matches the cover/theme of the book!
Some kind of ambiance in the background on youtube, I like the ones from CozyRain because they have loads ones that don't have music so just rain, thunder, nature sounds. I do this when I can but if I'm out and about I can read in any situation, noise has never bothered me when I'm reading, I get so drawn into the book I sometimes don't notice when someone is trying to talk to me lol
My weird reading habit: I read books in tenths. I basically take 3-4 bookmarks, round the page count up, and then stick bookmarks in at the different markers. So if a book is 396 pages long, I round up to 400, and then read the book in 40 page increments. Note that I typically try to look for a chapter break near the target page count. But it just helps me see how much progress I've made in a book to do this. Also I tend to read books in trios- as in, I read 3 books at once, and swap beteen the three each time I hit a 10% marker. It keeps me engaged and motivates me to actually finish more books
I could comment on so many of these, such as i need a drink and snack, I also have my legs stretched out, and there has been a few times Ive been a little tired but wanted to finish the chapter so I walked around in circles while reading. But outside of commenting on the rest of them, my things are A) While I love physical books, I read in my Kindle Paperwhite a lot. Not even just for the convenience, but because I love turning off the lights, playing some music in the background, and just reading in the dark. Its so relaxing. B) I have a list for my TBR both online, and on a notes app on my phone. 20 books to a page. If i cant think of what to read, i roll a dice to find the lage, then a d20 to find the book. At most i can do 3 tries, and then I must pick one of the 3. If I find a new book to add to the TBR I find a blank space and add it there.
Here for the great shirt choices, as well as the awesome content of course. Weird reading habits: waiting to read a highly anticipated book in the right headspace, giving up and just falling into it, at probably not a great moment. Reading in my armchair, feet on footstool, fidgeting endlessly as I start the book cos I'm so excited. Then reading way too fast, and having to constantly go back to re-read things both to get it right and prolong the suspense.
Hey Jesse, fantastic video! I related to many "weird"😄 habits there. My recent habit is mark every chapter in a physical book with bookmarks before I start reading it. I honestly don't know why😂. It's not like I am forced to read only one chapter per reading session and must know how long it is.
Abbi here! Truthfully I hardly DNF a book, but when I do sometimes I will give it another try like a year later. *then* if it doesn’t stick I just unhaul it all together cause then I know I’ll never read it.
Due to my lack of focus, I’ve been doing kind of a modified pomodoro technique where I will read for 15 or 30 minutes, then take a 5-15 minute break. Then I’ll go back to reading for another 15 or 30 minute stint. It’s been very helpful so far.
i do not use bookmarks anymore. i always loose or ruin them. i note the page number down on in goodreads and occasionally when my phone is not in reach or i have no time i will flip the page corner (but only on paperbacks). also i started annotating and my handwriting in the book is a mess but i kinda like it.
I'm okay with dnfing, but there are sometimes I struggle with it. Like I want to give a book a real chance before I dnf. But if it is a very slim book, let's say a short poetry collection or a novella, dnfing feels silly because it is not even 200 pages, I can do that. Even if I am bored out of my mind and hating it and even skimming the pages (which is something I rarely do) I will still see it through to the end. I also struggle dnfing very thick books, because if I have read 500 pages I might as well read the next 300. Again, it doesn't matter how much I hate it, but it still feels silly. Meanwhile I am able to dnf a 400 paged book 50 pages from the ending. Another one are anthologies from multiple authors. Because just because you didn't like the last story or poem or the one before or the one before that or the one before that, doesn't mean you won't like the next one because it is by a completely different author. So I find it hard to dnf them despite the fact that I am not enjoying them at all.
Every time a set a physical book down I calculate how far I’ve gotten into the book….. down to the tenth. Legitimately 55.8%. It makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something and at the same time makes the stakes higher for what needs to be accomplished/resolved in the last [insert percentage here].
People are gonna call me weird but I CANNOT drink and/or eat while reading. I am too scared to drop something on my books cause I am so clumsy. I also wash my hands before starting to read and when I start a new book, I always start with the acknowledgement (and pray for no spoilers) because they deserve to be read and I know at the end of a book, I am still stuck in it so I would skip the acknowledgement. Sorry for my english, it's not my native language
Whenever I'm in a reading slump, I always go back and reread the same few 5 star reads. If they can't get me out of a slump, then I just have to wait it out.
I take off ALL book jackets since they are too easy to rip, and I typically like the nakey book design more. Unless I truly love the jacket way better than the nakey book design (or lack thereof) I always remove them. I do collect book jackets however since my grampa once thought about wallpapering a room or library with book jackets. I have a box and bag full. I have a little magazine holder for my bathroom. Without going into it, with tummy issues I get _TONS_ of reading done. At least that's a plus
when i was younger i used to read series not in chronological order but based on vibes. i just kept rolling and accepting what happened in like the first book and surprisingly most books are well enough written so that you can keep up, the urge to repeat what happened is insane, normally you just skip over but if you start with like the third book in a series... you gonna notice
my weird reading habit is that i tend to read everything (appropriate) out loud or like whisper read because it doesn't make sense until i hear it so i voice act characters and everything
Timing yourself as you read, yeeeees! I often look at the clock every 4 pages to see how long it took me, and then calculate how much more I can read by a certain time. It actually keeps me engaged in reading longer, because apparently my brain can't do just one thing. 😅
One of my favorite reading positions was reading and walking because it did help me focus. Now I don't mean walking to the store and reading, I usually stayed in a space and moved around in a circle just engrossed in the book. It worked better than lying down or sitting in a spot for hours because if you move around while reading, it feels like you're on the journey with the characters. As for the last one, reading in the bathroom, no shame if you don't want to stop the book to drop a deuce. But Remember set the book somewhere safe before Wiping.
I keep track of the number of books I read and pages and add them to a graph at the end of the year. (I have 8 years' of data currently.) I never set a "read X books this year" goal since I want reading to remain just a fun thing I do, but it is interesting to see how my reading fluctuates annually.
Hey Jesse, I’m the same way venting to my invisible audience whether it’s a book I loved or hated . When my favorite characters die in a book I torture myself and keep reading ❤ also I’m reading Live Your Best Lie by Jessie Weaver . I also like to stretch my legs as well when I’m reading 📖 and not doing anything until I’m done with the book usually hits me when I’m in the middle of a book especially if it’s good one then forget it I have to read until the end ❤
I read the last sentence/paragraph of a book before I start it and most of the time it makes me even more excited to read it. I'm such a slow reader and have such a bad memory that I usually forget how it ends anyway. 😂
I read while I game. The thing is I want to typically do more than one thing. And the way I compromise is by multi tasking. So I will be watching a show, and I will be reading a book. I will be playing a game and reading a book. The only thing put full focus into doing lately is clay, but that is partly because I am getting back into it and I am working off images from my phone.
Ahhh, yeah I also need to wait for all books in a series (even if it's a duology) to be out before reading it. It's killing me waiting for OUABH to be done, but .. almost!
the dust jacket as a bookmark I'll do if i don't have a bookmark, but ONLY for the first couple of chapters. i don't want to ruin the dust jackets. also, i tend to procrastinate reading the final book of a series i love because i don't want the series to end. I'm doing it right now with A Court of Silver Flames. I keep putting it off 😅
I have a weird thing where I do dramatic readings aloud of books while walking around my room. Pretty sure that habit came from when I was a little kid and would read to the pets...but I have to stop myself from doing it in public areas 😅
I make reading logs, I log my book when I start and when I finish the book and I make the reading logs cute like the once we use to get from school in elementary.
The duck night light would be cool. I have a cloud night light that read with at night. I also major in Meteorology and wanna be a weather forecaster so everything I have is weather related. If I can add clouds to my other hobbies I will.
14:10 omg I feel that one! I usually film mylsef talking about a book for several minutes and then never watch that video lol but I always feel the need to film it because somehow those thoughts are very important and I don't want to loose them hahahaha (I only now realize how weird that is😅)
Reading while walking? Imagine doing that in a high-school hallway while dodging other students and climbing or going downstairs to your next class. 😅 I was a disaster in high-school. My new weird habit is if I have a large book, I will use tabs to mark each chapter before I start so it feels like I'm reading faster than I am.
I read every page of a book, including the first one with the ISBN and so on (except if it's really too long) and the very last one with "printed in *country*". The only thing I would skip, is the prologue if it's written by another author (because I don't care what somebody else has to say, I want to read the book myself) (and sometimes such prologue include spoilers, especially for classic books ! I'll never understand that 😱).
Not reading books in a series in order can be very fun because you can treat differents parts like prequels and sequels, like a machete order. Also if it's a reread then you could just enjoy them in a new order but I could never tbh
I also DNF within the first 50-100 pages if I’m not invested! it’s self care!! ✨ and I keep track of my reading visually in a journal but it’s just whether I read or not that day (and if I finished a book), because I’m too scared to do pages read because of how much I DNF 😅 like, should those DNF’d pages count!?
I also do the thing of not using a bookmark, even if it's mid chapter. My logic: if I can't remember if I read this or not, it means I wasn't paying attention properly, so I should start where I actually remember reading the page.
Sometimes I will google the plot of something just so I can read a fan fiction about a series I know nothing about. This often happens with crossovers or authors I love.
I also do the invisible audience thing...at least now I have a cat that probably won't listen to me but I can imagine xD. I used to look at how many pages a chapter was when I was reading in school, so I could gauge if I had time to read that chapter before the bell rang
Lolololololololol i am the person Googling to see if a character dies and yeah if I find out ahead of time, I don't even bother picking the book up, but if I find out while reading I'll usually finish. The MC or LI dying at the end ruins my day so I need to be able yo prepare myself. Only time I've ever liked books where that happened is when I was forewarned.
Okay, I also need of the person embroidering and reading is reading an audiobook, bc I do crochet and like you CAN read physically and do crafts at the same time but like... I don't have to worry about sharp things.
When I was younger I was part of the "read the last sentence of a book before starting it" club and to this day I have no idea why I did this 😂 I also never use a bookmark, just remember where I stopped, even mid-chapter.
SBF - suffered but finished = opposite of dnf
SUFFERED BUT FINISHED hahah I love it 😂
hahah thank you! i gotta remember to use it 😂@@mandiconnell3311
This is gonna stick with me😂
That's brilliant lmao
Sometimes I am so embarrassed for the characters, I need to take a break and take a walk around the room 😅.
Or if something too exciting or sad happens
Saaaameeee, I take forever to read sometimes because of these lil walk breaks 😂
Secondhand embarrassment is the worst
I honestly have so much respect for the DNF people. I physically can't, NOT finish a book, I'll just force myself to read whatever hell it is, just so I won't feel defeated 😂
I do that, and when I just CAN'T finish the book I'll leave it and continue reading it several months or even years later (happened with Treasure Island more than 3 times already). Or else I'll get a looooong reading slump 💀
I read for entertainment- if I am not enjoying it, it becomes a waste of time and I just can't finish (#teamDNF)😝
What does DNF mean?
When i finish a hardback i tend to always slam the book close. The sound is so satisfying.
Explaining the plot to an invisible audience ! I do it all the time 😂 thought it was just me 😅
Listening to an audiobook whilst crafting is my absolutely ideal situation.
And all I can think is how uncomfortable that'd be after a while)
also audiobook and puzzles❤️. (tried lego aswell but too distracting) haha
Booktubers ripping apart people and things is a source of delight.
LOL
Those 24/7 live train videos i like listening to them.and when they stopped on a station, thats my cue to have a break on reading. Its like a reading sprint! 😂😅
Way back in the oldie days, my junior high school English teacher told me that I should always be reading 3 books; a work of fiction to spark the imagination, a work of history to educate wisdom, and a work of poetry to flame the heart.
I will read a book while simultaneously listening to its audiobook; especially if the setting for the book has a unique English dialect or regional vocabulary where hearing it is easier to process than to read it.
If you don't have a drink and/or snack while reading your weird. Lol love you Jesse ❤❤❤
I'm a drink and snack goblin when reading. I feel like giving myself something to do while reading like that helps me focus a bit more.
Not a weird reading habit, perhaps more a toxic trait, but I tend to write elaborate reviews and analyses in my head while reading, and then when I'm done I seem to be incapable to form a coherent phrase and my reviews are always just like 'this book was so good' or 'this wasn't for me'.
literally me omg
WTF THIS IS ME!!!! So weird i swear! I write paragraphs in my head but when I’m done it’s just like “yep 3 star it was okay” “4 star really enjoyed this”. So now, I’ve began to write a review in my notes app while I’m reading so that when I’m done I can have a proper review.
the invisible audience bit is so so so real
i have full on debates with my audience and i also give ted talks
Best reading app I've ever used
You got me down pat, Jesse! (Writer and editor, haha!!) It was so fun to see you react to my answer, thanks!
Yes!!! The king of bookish content! Can't wait for this!!!
Watch your surroundings. Don’t wanna get kidnapped.
if anyone has trouble keeping off their phone when reading or being productive, I downloaded the app Forest (its 3.99 I know im so sorry) but its helped me sooooo much, basically it has a little productivity tree and if you leave the app and go to another app the tree dies and i refuse to let my trees die so ive been reading soooo much. itll also allow you to make a list of allowed apps like messages or email or something incase of an emergency you won't lose your tree
Yep. I got it too. I put it on when I clean or paint
One more comment here, but for those who want to keep track of how many pages they've read in the year, goodreads does that for you. If you go into my books and then click on reading stats, there's an option to see pages read in a year and a rough chart of how many pages you've read over time as well. That might be fun for you to look at :)
Best video you have made in years!! Pure Jesse gold here!!!!
Mine wasnt in the video so ill put it here:
I read two books at a time but i plan out the intervals.
My friend has a weird reading quirk: she buys a new book, reads the ending, and *then* begins the book. She also reads a movie synopsis and spoilers before going to see a movie in theaters. I asked her what the point of that was and she said that she has no patience and needs to know the ending of the story first.
Huh, so I guess you can say you "let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding."
😅
Oh yeah, I just to knit and read at the same time. Complicated, but fun! 😸
So I could only buy what was available at our local(ish) bookshop which was The Works and stocked a very limited selection 😂
Loved hearing these!
9:45
Oooh.
I totally relate to counting the pages in a chapter...I need time to mentally prepare for those long chapters😅
Ugh same! And if it starts to get too long, sometimes I'll take a peak at the end of the chapter 😅
@@FrozenJedi38 Me too! I'm so glad I'm not the only one
I like to have an extra bookmark mark the 100 pgs. point. I don't know why but it's become a thing 😂❤
Readers are weird creatures... I like to read in my bathtub, put some blankets there and a few pillows and read away.
I could comment on so many of these, such as i need a drink and snack, I also have my legs stretched out, and there has been a few times Ive been a little tired but wanted to finish the chapter so I walked around in circles while reading.
But outside of commenting on the rest of them, my things are
A) While I love physical books, I read in my Kindle Paperwhite a lot.
That invisible audience thing. I do that too😂
I count the pages to the next chapter too
Here for the great shirt choices, as well as the awesome content of course.
I love it because JESSE IS ONE OF US.
Abbi here! Truthfully I hardly DNF a book, but when I do sometimes I will give it another try like a year later. *then* if it doesn’t stick I just unhaul it all together cause then I know I’ll never read it.
I cracked up so much over the peeing one 🙈 I'm holding my bladder until the video is over 🤣
I mark every 50 pages in a book. I don't know why. It's just more motivating I think!
Yay!! Mine made it in! I'm a criss-cross applesauce reader! I also read with my feet planted and knees up so the book rests against my thighs lol
I have a hard time focusing on reading because of my ADHD. Walking around while I’m reading helps me with that. I love my treadmill 😊
I would never take the dustjackets off my own hardbacks, but I absolutely love the aesthetics of your shelves!
I dont do it very often but reading on a clean corridor back and forth is so great!
Jesse’s shirt is fabulous ❤
I could never cross cross applesauce 😂 my legs would fall asleep
when i was younger i used to read series not in chronological order but based on vibes. i just kept rolling and accepting what happened in like the first book and surprisingly most books are well enough written so that you can keep up, the urge to repeat what happened is insane, normally you just skip over but if you start with like the third book in a series... you gonna notice
I love your videos so much!🧡
i related so much to the speaking to the invisible audience one
Loving these uploads ❤📚
my weird reading habit is that i tend to read everything (appropriate) out loud or like whisper read because it doesn't make sense until i hear it so i voice act characters and everything
DNF - did not finish
DTF - down to finish
My weird habit is my bookmark MUST match the book either aesthetically or thematically.
It's killing me waiting for OUABH to be done, but .. almost!
I loveeee your videos. Thank you for your effort, your time and your energy. Greetings from Mexico
the dust jacket as a bookmark I'll do if i don't have a bookmark, but ONLY for the first couple of chapters. i don't want to ruin the dust jackets.
also, i tend to procrastinate reading the final book of a series i love because i don't want the series to end.
Another day, another jesse the reader video! Woot woot!
I definitely have to check how many pages before the next chapter then I'll bookmark it
I read every page of a book, including the first one with the ISBN and so on (except if it's really too long) and the very last one with "printed in *country*".
and I keep track of my reading visually in a journal but it’s just whether I read or not that day (and if I finished a book), because I’m too scared to do pages read because of how much I DNF 😅 like, should those DNF’d pages count!?
That shirt is filling me with envy-it's so lovely!💖
Lolololololololol i am the person Googling to see if a character dies and yeah if I find out ahead of time, I don't even bother picking the book up, but if I find out while reading I'll usually finish. The MC or LI dying at the end ruins my day so I need to be able yo prepare myself. Only time I've ever liked books where that happened is when I was forewarned.
Okay, I also need of the person embroidering and reading is reading an audiobook, bc I do crochet and like you CAN read physically and do crafts at the same time but like... I don't have to worry about sharp things.
Lol the running joke wjen my friends and i sprint is being able to pick books for everyone in the chat, but not for ourselves 😂😂😂
When I was younger I was part of the "read the last sentence of a book before starting it" club and to this day I have no idea why I did this 😂 I also never use a bookmark, just remember where I stopped, even mid-chapter.
Does it ever ruin a book for you?
As far as I can remember, no, fortunately.
