- Amid demands from the opposition and some NDA allies for a review of the Agnipath scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday mounted a strong defence of the military recruitment policy, saying it aimed to rejuvenate the armed forces and keep them continuously fit for war. The Congress, however, stuck to its demand of scrapping the scheme introduced in 2022.

I am a Punjabi from Delhi ..... I know three Ex-Armymen (navy+Army) (mostly lower grade retired ones ... one Punjabi and two from Haryana) who had NO CARE OR CONCERN for the country.... they wanted a way to earn extra money during their young time while doing agriculture, which requires 2 to 3 months of active participation ... they wanted heavy discounts on almost everything from Army canteen ... all three are heavy drinkers (One Punjabi and One Haryanvi have liver Problems), and they get dirt cheap liqour from Army canteens ..... they get good Pensions ... I am given to understand one of these gentlemen had a very poor service record also, as he refrained from all hardships during service with one excuse or another (my best friends sister is married in this guy's extended family)
Now My tax payer money is going for such people ... WHY ?? does Gen. Yash Mor have any answer to this??

Thos who think, ARMY life is NOT FOR THEM, will carry their induced Discipline, earned qualification and Money to other fields to help the nation better. They won't end up being UN-DEDICATED soldiers in ARMED FORCES, who are them only to earn extra salary, get discounted things and some good pension.

I am a BJP SUPPORTER BUT I dislike how BJP has overlooked voices raised by senior ex serviceman. You cannot let Agniveer go unemployed when they can easily be given jobs in paramilitary. If government cannot take them then how is private sector expected to perform this role?
As far as Gen Manoj Pandey is concerned he always toes BJP line of thinking.
Not only this but Government has not taken lessons from Kargil seriously. There are two phases of Kargil war. Pre'bofors and Post Bofors artillery induction. The first phase India was losing miserably and the second phase we got a fighting chance. Lesson learnt - use your Artillary, helicopters, missiiles, RPGs and drones first before using army as cannon fodder and not the other way round, and be prepared for the worst scenario don't scramble after the damage is done.
Idk even after this if BJP supporters still cant see what's going wrong, then when the time will come. Shazia Ilmi was at fault, dont be ignorant accept the flaws!

The Agniveer must not be used to downsize the army permanent cadres but to reinforce and increase the strength in case of two front war . Once peace is restored , 3 to 4 Lakhs of permanent strength can be reduced to save money for modernisation .

REvise the scheme so as to give equal financial and medical benefits as given to regular soldiers, increase the tenure to 10 yrs and absorb atleast 80% of all Agniveer recruits. End this political wrangling and focus on Army's requirements. Dont be stingy on the pension of people who r wiling to lay down their lives.
Why not do away pensions of other PSUs or other services then?
Govt shud tie up pensions with gains from investments. TAp the market linked Pension life insurance policy route.= if reqd. REduce ur liability without denying the forces of their right.
