Naoya and Amane are like the biggest standouts for me. Usually SMT games would have their Law and Chaos reps be extremists and one-note, but these two are actually believable and can work together. It's refreshing to see a nuanced Law and Chaos dynamic.
What I really like about this SMT game is how the characters are their own person first, then they happen to allign with a faction after that. For example Atsuro seems to have an alignment for Chaos "rule of the strongest" via his Comp plan, but first he's a friend who'll ensure wathever he can to take care of his friends, and then he suggests a chaos aligned solution but still stands by your side wathever you choose.
A Fate fan? Or do you just know the meme? (If you are then even though he's my favourite Lancer I actually think it's pretty funny that Carnival Phantasm made a running gag of him always dying. If not then disregard everything I just said.)
The "perfect" SMT game where you can actually pick any alignment and satisfied by the result. No BS like, law is "canon", neutral "better", or chaos "more satisfying", it really depends on your own personal taste, it's actually incredible. And for once, law bros can actually rejoice instead of "yet another enslaved by higher being omegalul" I think the game focus on the character helped that as it makes the character move toward the said alignment instead of the alignment shapes the said character
Strange Journey also has that lack of bias imo, all three endings kinda solve the problem, but they are far from perfect (and is also an amazing game she should play)
It's so bizarre to see this spin-off duology acknowledged, but god if I'm not glad to see it. These are my favourites of the SMT games and two of my favourite games of all time ever. Great video and I'm glad you enjoyed it, Crystal!
Ever since you mentioned your interest in playing smt games I was excited for when you would eventually get the the devil survivor games. Really happy that you enjoyed the game. Here is to hoping the a Devil Survivor 3 can be announced.
... Haven't played Overcloked yet, only the original which was not voiced but hearing Melissa Fahn as Yuzu is just hilarious. She voiced Edward in Cowboy Bebop and is now voicing Silver Wolf in Star Rail so hearing her going all "oh no, don't hack that device, what if we get into trouble?" is goddamned peak meta comedy.
For me, the banter between Bravely Default's Ringabel and Digimon Tamers Rika (Atsuro and Yoohoo) using COMPs provided by Adult Gohan (Naoya) is surreal. XD Such a jam-packed voice cast, and it's so funny how many I recognise from other things.
Funnily enough, Devil Survivor was my very first SMT game back on the DS. After that, I tried persona 4, then the other SMT games on PS2 and the rest was history. Out of the SMT games I played, Devil Survivor was the only one that actually took the alignment concept and did something creative with it. It wasn't as simple as "law/neutral/chaos", like so many mainline games would run with, and I'd always wished the main series would take a cue from it. Maybe if we're lucky, and more people talk about it, we'll get a Devil Survivor 3! I can hope!

Maybe if enough people clamor for it on Twitter, but for now it's just nice to speculate
Plus on the alignment front, Law wasn't just "Blind obedience plus genocide 50% of the time", and Chaos wasn't just "World of Stronk unga bunga" like with many other titles.
This is absolutely the coolest concept in the whole franchise, the way the story is presented is also one of the coolest ones. Oh, yeah and strategy rpg gamers rise up also.

I feel like yuzu's little "I just want to be a normal girl" speech could have been so good if they actually gave her a character. they could have had an arc of her admiring that the girly stereotypes she fits into are an act because it makes her feel like she fits in more and stuff about being to scared to not be "normal." I love those sorts of character arcs but I feel like she wasn't given the chance and she was just there to be the female character (tm)
I really like Yuzu because of how ultimately out of place she is in the entire game story-wise. Unlike the majority of the cast that each have their own goals and motivations within the lockdown and what it will mean for the entire world, she really has no stakes in any of the conflicts beyond "getting out of the lockdown"; she spends basically the entire game trying to divorce herself from the greater conflicts looking for a way out. Her route is a straight antithesis of the game's themes of facing crises with your strength to achieve your goals by attempting to run away from everything to return to the status quo, it's why her route is the only one that directly leads to a Bad Ending. The sad truth however is that, realistically, most of us would be Yuzu in a situation like that and that makes us uncomfortable.
yuzu is a normal girl tho, which is why shes always complaining and just wants to not be involved with all this demon business. a character doesn’t have to be subversive to be good, even if you find her annoying i think shes realistic in that she just wants to go home. also girls can girly and there doesn’t have to be an explanation for it. she can just be a girly girl who likes girly things, thats completely fine and fits her character.
My favorite route in Overclocked is Yuzu's route because that entire route is you pissing off Metatron so much that he comes from heaven to have words with you. It's one of the funniest routes I've seen in a game.

This was fantastic I have only one complaint WHERE'S MY BOY BLACK FROST 😔 where is the hee hoo of our hearts
Love both of these games. The introduced me to SMT AND Persona.
The 1st has better combat, but the 2nd has a better story. I highly recc the second one of your didnt HATE this one.
Best voice acting
Atsuro being voiced by Spike Spencer was a neat surprise. Didn't originally play DeSu with voices as I had the DS version, so Overclocked was a massive glow up.
Also, Kyle Hebert killing it as Naoya, as he often does with every role. XD
0:03 what happened to my boy?
