I'm 51 too and from Ottawa; the 2 players I remember playing against the most in this town growing up as a kid was Adrian Aucoin (D) and Barnaby. We might have only been 14-15 (I think, Gloucester Rangers 1985) but Adrian was so smooth and a perfect playmaker on the rush while setting PP. Meanwhile back at the Funny Farm, Barnaby could skate like a demon, and when he had you lined up you felt it no matter how small he was. We had visors in AAA but you could still see that crazy smile and chirp, chirp, chirp. 1st year of full contact too if I remember. Yes, he adapted great to that lol. I see him in the summer once in a while on the Market or Elgin St eating / having pops with his family and friends. Legend.
I met Barnaby at ESPN Zone in NYC when he was with the Blueshirts. I told him I was a huge Rangers fan from Queens and he had a beer with me. He was super cool-a typically salt-of-the-Earth hockey player. Always loved this guy, absolutely fearless.
Knuckles, you should be very proud of your interviewing skills. Always solid questions. You guys are getting all the great enforcers. Keep up the great work.
@@Mike7911779 Barnaby wasn't an enforcer, he was a pest that would take a beating for his team. Barnaby took 10 punches for every punch he landed. Barnaby will be the first to tell you that he wasn't an enforcer but was willing to be an idiot punching bag for his team. Calling him an enforcer is disrespectful to every other hockey player that deserves that title. He doesn't deserve that title and if you ask him, which you should, he'll tell you the same.
Your "Host" talent shines like your Legendary career. I really enjoy getting the chance to hear all the back stories to the players I idolized as a kid and can really appreciate all the sacrifices and struggles to be a Pro in the NHL. I grew up in South Jersey being a die hard Flyers fan and in the day could not stand you or Matthew Barnaby , Scott Stephens, or Tie Domi or all the rival bad guys that always challenged "my" team. Now that I get a chance to see you and hear your stories as well as your lucky guests I just want to say how much Mad Respect I have for you and the game!!! Bless UP!
Hey Knuckles! Please Interview Joey Kocur. I hear a lot of other players talk about him on your podcast! I would love to hear the stories of him and Probie on how they terrorize the league for many years as “The Bruise Brothers” Thanks
I just added the same comment. Would love to hear Joey talk about his days with Probie as the bruise brothers. Scary Mean Tough guy on the ice , and apparently one of the nicest guys you can meet off the ice! He does a lot for kids charities in Motown
I remember Barnaby from a french radio station interview he made many years ago and remember i had a good opinion of him from that interview, but after this interview my respect for him really went high. Super honest real person we can all associate to.
Barnaby had colour and passion made the game exciting, and today that’s missing. Loved him in Pittsburgh and Buffalo, I’ll never forget I was at the game when he was playing for Buffalo against Chicago and he was sticking his tongue out at Jeremy’ rioneck it was hilarious. Take care barny and God bless and the memories.
Barnaby brought that three stooges element to the game.Inredible agitator very entertaining.Hysterical 😅 player and person. The games missing guys like him today.
another great interview i like the real version of Mathiew Barnaby. good sense of humour guy. thank you three for this interview. most appreciated Tim Chris and Mathiew thumbs up
I remember as a teenager reading all about Barnaby when he was playing junior hockey and all the PM's he had as a smaller player and have been a fan ever since. Even as a Flyers fan I still chuckle watching him go after Garth Snow.
I really look forward to Thursday s. Hey Tim that must of been you Dave Brown was talking to in that legendary clip. “ Hey Timmy ya got those things cemented on?” 😊
Barnaby was absolutely hilarious. His fight with Hatcher had me dying. Saw him at Damon's The Place for Ribs after he was traded to Pittsburgh and after Pens were eliminated. Sabres were playing Toronto on the big screen and Stu Barnes had a wide open net and hit the crossbar. Barnaby just burst out laughing hysterically
Barnaby from 1st game I seen on hnic vs mtl I hated him . But also realized id want him on my habs then. He did great vs bigger stronger players. Played the skill game well when needed. Still recall the hatty vs mtl . Great chat guys. Love the honesty Mathew. Im like you , i do not drink anymore though as id enjoy too many after the one. 22.5 yrs strong. Thanks guys. Ghg!
Avery, Barnaby, and Fleurry are my 3 most hated players ever in the NHL, and coincidentally they all played for my #1 most hated team, the NY Rangers. I've learned to like Avery a little bit now from his UA-cam channel with Kevin Connelly and have learned to respect Theo after reading his book, but the jury is still out on Barnaby.
what is happening to this podcast? You have had the likes of Trottier, Robinson, Lemaire and Bourque as guests and lately it's Kimble, Chase and Barnaby? If these are the quality of future guests I guess it's time to unsubscribe
Wow I never knew twist challenged barnaby before he pounded ray. So ray's broken face this entire time is due to barnabay not having the balls to fight twister

I agree. Enjoy his podcasts immensely
Barnaby wasn't an enforcer. He was a pest that was wiling to fight to keep his job.
Pests don't have 192 nhl fights, whether you like them or not

Matthew is the most entertaining fighter to ever play in the NHL

One of those players you love when he is on your team. As a Ranger fan his fight with Doig was the funniest thing i have ever seen on the ice
You’re getting everyone on the show, it’s my favourite hockey podcast for sure
Another great interview. Thanks again boys. The best hockey show is The Raw Knuckles show!
Love These chris ! you gotta have Joey Kocur on
I just added the same comment. Would love to hear Joey talk about his days with Probie as the bruise brothers. Scary Mean Tough guy on the ice , and apparently one of the nicest guys you can meet off the ice! He does a lot for kids charities in Motown
Barnaby was unhinged....Loved him on the Rags. Very cool to all the fans as well. And that Berube/Nilan fight...That was his first as a Ranger!!
I remember Barnaby from a french radio station interview he made many years ago and remember i had a good opinion of him from that interview, but after this interview my respect for him really went high. Super honest real person we can all associate to.
Bam Bam! Maybe not the best fighter, but definitely the most entertaining!
and fearless. He was listed at 180lbs and fighting guys 230-245lbs

I would love an interview with Dan Kordic not only to discuss his career but John Kordic’s as well.
One of Knuck's and Tim's best interviews.
Great interview as usual Knucks and Barns….
Barnaby brought that three stooges element to the game.Inredible agitator very entertaining.Hysterical 😅 player and person. The games missing guys like him today.
Mathew Barnaby was must watch television even got out of market cities.
another great interview i like the real version of Mathiew Barnaby. good sense of humour guy. thank you three for this interview. most appreciated Tim Chris and Mathiew thumbs up
Wow!! Great interview .
Great podcast yet again Knuckles....Will never forget the advice you gave me at age 14....Much respect!!

Barnaby was a tremendous player: a fearless rat who could score a bit and would fight anyone.
Love it! Barnie was hockey's #1 shit-disturber in his day. Great podcast as always, Knux and Stapes!
Barnaby from 1st game I seen on hnic vs mtl I hated him . But also realized id want him on my habs then. He did great vs bigger stronger players. Played the skill game well when needed. 22.5 yrs strong. Thanks guys. Ghg!
Sandy McCarthy, that's a throwback. I remember when he played on the flyers. He could score a little bit too wasnt a complete goon.
Barnaby loved the story about throwing the puck at baxter. I could see him doing that
Knuckles. If you're taking requests, please get George McPhee on the show. 👊
I love Barn, such a great guy and one of my favorite pests growing up
Chris, you should do a show about a tough fighter who was also a pretty good player, orland kurtenbach.
Great stories awesome as usual
fucking hilarious guy , as a Leafs fan growing up I hated him and his smile but time heals old wounds
If Rempe ever figures it out man he is going to be a terror in the league for the next 20 years.
Barny you are an absolute fucking beauty...your book was a great read 📚
The Brian Curran story is something. Jumping him while getting stitches!!
Barnaby looks like Gary from Howard stern
love this !

Awesome.
Matt much respect.
The NHL needs guys like Barnaby and knuckles... As a Bruins fan growing up in the 80s and 90s I miss that era of hockey, unwatchable now.
Not sure if Matthew has a new set of breast implants or not but my god they look amazing!
#1 the best
How does Dale Hunter have over 3000 penalty minutes I never seen him in a real fight
Big surprise Barnaby was a character....LOL
Poor Matt was a punching bag…
Boy, I sure didnt like him as a fan. Dont judge a book by its cover, this interview was amazing! I wish him the best of luck and happiness
👍👍
Barnaby
Love you Knuckles but Barnaby didn’t help his reputation any.
🐢
Barnaby was truculent and punacious
