Don Cherry taught life watching him on HNIC. He taught us about bullies, honor and class every Saturday. And talked actual hockey play not arse kissing nonsense during intermission. Thanks Cherry you’re the best!
Love your style, Chris - humble, fun and friendly. Longtime fan of yours. I remember being at the Montreal Forum when you scored on a penalty shot at the Montreal Forum against the Winnipeg Jets in February of 1985. Thanks for having Mr. Cherry on your podcast.
Thank you Glenn, means a lot. Hope you continue to listen and follow and subscribe to our podcast! And please continue to share your comments with us.
love Grapes
Awesome. So cool. So underrated.
The podcast that is..
Bobby. well everyone knows about him hahaha
I stopped watching hockey night in Canada after don was let go, I just watch the Stanley cup final, it’s not the same without don cherry there for not worth my time now, love the podcast Chris keep it up
Still love Don Cherry. Still don’t really know what he’s talking about 1/2 the time.
I remember Chris Nilan buckled Terry O'Reilly knees.. After Chris ran the Boston Goalie... Sucked him one good while Terry was charging at him
I think there were times when we watched Hockey Night In Canada just to see Grapes
Here in US we like Him too. The idiots that canceled this man proved that this is the wrong direction. You're a Great interviewer and should never been canceled by the left-wing liberalist.
Don Cherry is missed. The NHL broadcasts are getting pathetic now. I can't even watch intermissions anymore.
Don Cherry would make them even worse
@@noobmaster-wj3qm You are just jealous of the career and legacy this man has earned. Racist leftists like you play identity politics to hide your racism with virtue signaling.
Good luck to you in the future.
@@noobmaster-wj3qm no, he'd make you cry.
I agree Tom
@@ildarm his idiotic statements would make me laugh
Long time Habs fan. Long time Knuckles fan. Long time Cherry fan.
Don you did nothing wrong. As a former member of the Canadian Forces, I thank you for caring for us. You were right by the way
Well stated, as we are a military family🎗🎗🎗🎗 Love the Habs since my teenage years and favorites were Knuckles Nilan and late John Kordic ( RIP)
Only thing Don did wrong was believing Ron McLean had his back.McLean's a weasel
@@4thlinemaniac356 Amen brother. Can't watch the guy at all anymore.
@@mafmaf6417 Join me in my comment on the Rod Peterson podcast where I say it to Ron lol.
Oh look a member of the military being a complete clown, what a surprise
Don got cancelled for promoting national pride and a reminder why to buy a poppy if you're new to the Country. Unbelievable. Still stings.
He's from the old school of common sense.
Jesus 89 years old and he is still completely coherent and his memory is great.
Still wearing those "flashy" suits. Lol
Don Cherry getting called out by Tara Sloane...uh thanks, nobody cares, we love Don.
What?
fascinating - who is Tara Sloane ? who cares what she says ?
@@pjpredhomme7699 a member of the woke brigade who recently had her show 'Hometown Hockey' canceled and called Don a bigot last week.
She was so brave through 😂
Chris and crew, I’m a 53 yr old man who never shows emotion, been brought up that way. Watching todays podcast got me chocked up a bit! I love Don, miss him dearly. Thank you sooooo much for this, I could listen to you guys all day and not get bored! Keep up the great guests Chris!
Check out Don's podcast if you haven't already. You don't have to miss him, he uploads every Sunday 😀👍
Couldn't have said it better
Tara slone can shove it, absolutely nobody cares about her and Ron. Don was the man for decades we all miss him
Well stated!
Glad Cherry is not on National TV anymore.......
That's right Don, you love our military and the poppy represents our fallen warriors. You hit the nail on the head when you said " you people ".. Soldier On from a military family!👍🎗🎗🎗🎗🎗🎗🎗🎗
Ron will never be a national treasure like Cherry....
Don Fucking Cherry on Knuckles......absolutely incredible! Thank you.
Good to see Mr. Cherry is healthy and doing well. There's nothing better than listening to two old school gladiators telling war stories!
Thank you so much for listening and sharing your comment!
Absolute Canadian beauty. Thank you for posting this!!
Wow Don cherry is a national treasure! He should be on the $100 bill in Canada … amazing career.
You mean a $3 bill.

You seriously need professional assistance, No way this racist deserves anything and HNIC is better off without Mr.Cherry.......
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 you are a clown, and a ❄️… grapes is not a racist, u people label anyone with an opinion a racist… what he said was 100% correct.. if you come to a country you should learn and appreciate the values of that country.

Was waiting for a Don Cherry interview for a long time! AWESOME! Good to know people through an interview instead of the media painting their image
He looks good i miss hearing his voice every Saturday
I LOVE DON CHERRY. HE WAS RAILROADED. GREAT INTERVIEW KNUCKS I HOPE DON LIVES FOREVER. MY IDOL
No. Don did it to himself. Living in the past he could cope with in the 21st century.
Thank you Chris for having the decency to interview Mr. Cherry on your podcast!
We sure do miss him and he was unjustly let go IMO.
Good fun interview. What a great character Don still is at 88! HNIC is now a bore without him.
One of the most loved guys in this country
Don Cherry is one of the greatest Canadians of our time. The man was incredible for the game. Please pass on my best to Don if you can and tell him THANK YOU Don from not only myself but from every hockey fan I have ever known well in the past 30 years-amazing Don-you are the man!
We love u Don Cherry ur a great Canadian patriot n yes ur right always honour our veterans 🇨🇦
Dude you got the guest list
Yep Kuckles just get better every time. Don we miss you.
Coach Cherry is awesome 👌 👏 ✨️💖 we miss you sir
Cant wait to listen to this one at work tomorrow. Should have been 1hr 38min though! Two of the best hockey-personas - thrown under the bus by their former employer.
i dont watch HNIC anymore. the old rule in my house was during 1 st intermission no one talk especially when Don was on.
Respect, respect, respect. This is what Cherry always preached throughout the years. This is what a proud Canadian looks like! Thanks for the stories, memories, morals and not afraid to speak your mind. We all love you Grapes! Thanks Chris and the whole Raw Knuckles Podcast team for this interview.
Thank you Jim. We really appreciate the support and we appreciate that you took the time to share your comments with us. We will keep em coming!
I remember meeting you both in Kandahar. It was an amazing time getting my pic with Don and you too Knuckles!
Love to write these guys
Huge pick up Knucks!!!! Miss grapes so much !! Thanks for this !
Great fun listening to Don’s stories; although I’m a long time Habs fan, I have to agree with Don - watching Bobby Orr skate so effortlessly and play hockey was pure gold. The best all round hockey player to have played the game. Thanks Chris & Tim for producing this wonderful podcast!
Looking good Grapes, God love ya! Thanks for having him Chris, yer one of my fave Habs when I was growing up
Love Grapes !!! Glad To find this channel. Best of luck to Knuckles !!!
I use to watch hockey saturday nights , just so i could watch first intermission, now i leave every intermission .
I'm 65 now and I grew up watching HNIC and Don Cherry on Coaches Corner! Maclean is weak and babbles like a fool!
Don't worry if your fellow countryman gave up on you grapes..You are Boston's favorite son, loved and always welcome
the one and only Grapes....the Don of hockey....great interview!
This guy is a Canadien Hockey icon !!! Again the best hockey PODCAST !!!
Icon (WHATEVER) glad we don't hear his racist views on National TV anymore.......
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 I understand your point. racist is a strong word ... again I respect your feelings
First Raw Knuckles podcast ever, wont be my last! Don is and always will be king, hockey royalty!
Thanks JB-Hope you are continuing to listen to our episodes and we hope you're enjoying them! Please Follow us and share with your friends and family! Would really help us and we appreciate it!
Great that you had Cherry on , funny how all his so called friends ran for cover ,better off without them . Always enjoyed Don
Didn’t realize how much I missed Don. Love your podcast Chris. Wish you all the success in the world.
Thanks Mike, much appreciated
88 or 89 years old? He looks maybe 70s, and still lucid! He's got the youth genetics for sure!
What a classy gentleman you are Don❤️🙏
Since they cancelled Don Cherry I have quit watching the fake BS that once was called Hochey. The new announcers are pathetic along with Ron from Red Deer. I am embarrassed to say my home province. Ron is a failure.
Day they fired this man was the day my life changed.. couldn’t give a rats ass about hockey now and I lived it
Great 👍 job Knuckles 👍, and Tim . Don is one of a kind . I love ❤ Cherry. He was hockey 🏒 night in Canada 🇨🇦. I don't know how Ron even puts his face on air ,after what was done. Don was the hockey mind . Genus.
I agree with you , Don is a legend.
@@HockeyJunkie So true 👍 👌, cbc ,and Ron screwed him . And Ron knows so little.
Rock em sock em ,was my kind of 🏒 hockey 😆 🤣 😂
Thanks so much for listening and taking the time to leave your feedback!
Great interview Chris. Wish it was longer. This guy could go on for ever.
Thanks so much, maybe we'll have to do a part 2
Don was treated unfairly. He said nothing wrong whatsoever. He stands up for veterans . He’s a team player with backbone. Why didn’t Ron stand beside his team buddy ? Don did not call any race out whatsoever . Buy a poppy was the message folks ! Hockey has no coaches corner now ! The administration F… Up
As a veteran Thank you for all you have done❤
Thank you for your service Shawn and for all you have done.
The Donster never ages still looks the same and sharp as a tack.
Mount Crushmore of interviews - Grapes Stapes and Niles
I think many Red Wing fans might disagree w/Bobby Orr being better than Mr. Hockey? But true story, i was Looking for my son to get a try out as a free agent. And actually called Bobby, who was acting as a scout. My goodness, he couldn't have been any nicer on the phone w/me. No airs about him, and we had a great conversation. The old tyme players were like that, very personable. When my son played as a captain at the Jr All star game, Gordie dropped the ceremonial puck. And after the game, we talked old tyme hocked for well over an hour. Those boy's were so mesmerized by how personable he was. I think Gordie would've talked to us all night long. But his wife Colleen & Marty were there, so we didn't wanna keep him more than the hour we were so blessed to share w/him about the old days. Such great memories🥰
Looking good Don, you are exactly 30 years older than me. We are both born on February 5th. I live in Oakville and I see Ron McLean the odd time at Starbucks. I have nothing to say to him.
When Grapes left Hockey Night in Canada, so did I
In don we trust!!! Thxs for everything mr cherry I’m so stoked to watch this miss u coach!!!!!
Man loved Don Cherry he told it like it was!! Knuckles love it Bud
Miss Don Cherry 😢
This is an awesome conversation! love it.
Thank you guys for another fantastic interview. one of the best in the game..
Grapes is the best, he needs to be a regular guest.
Ron McLean should change his name to wRONg Lane for going down the wrong road. He is a weasel. I turn the volume down during intermission
Hockey has never been the same they ruined it with getting rid of Don. By saying you people. The cancel culture must go
Thank you so much for having Don on . He is terrific and I'm glad he looks and sounds so good .
Thanks for the treat of having coach Cheery on. I grew up beside Harry Lumley and Johnny Lumley in Owen Sound. Seeing and listening to Coach Cheery brought back alot of old memories. He is a true Canadian.
Thanks John, appreciate the support!
Love you Don you are the best hockey night in canada is shit without you
So great to see Don in good spirits. I’m not sure how long it’s been since I saw an interview with him, but this was fantastic.
U gotta get Domi on here.. and Baumgaartner and Jay Miller
They will all be coming on, don't you worry! Stay tuned....Make sure you subscribe so you'll know as soon as we release new episodes!
Let's Go, Canada, hockey and Cherry all go hand in hand. Kenny Block, from Grunthal Manitoba, his dad Steve was also a good old boy that took us fishing to Caddy Lake into his late 80's. Big Respect Nilan, the tough guys are a rare breed and you and Don need a part.2.
Love Don Cherry, Knuckles, and Stapleton. The best hockey podcast going. HNIC needs Cherry back!
I love Grapes. I am happy he’s doing well. God bless. Thanks for for this podcast
HNIC was never the same after Cherry left
I miss the days of the ten foot satellite. We looked forward to HNIC and Mr. Cherry. A national treasure that was kicked to the wayside. I also looked forward to listening to Chris' interviews and that cool Boston accent. This channel shows what a good man Chris really is. I am in the southern USA and cannot stand HNIC now.
Great interview, I miss Don, especially when he was in a grumpy mood on HNIC. 👍👍
Don Cherry was 'Hockey night in Canada', Back when it was an event instead of an unwatchable exercise in virtue signaling as it is now. The CBC was always tuned in on Saturday nights. 'Even here in Detroit 'Grapes' is regarded with great honor And is one of my alltime favorite Canadians because he spoke his mind. Wokeness be damned
He spoke his mind alright. That’s why he’s your all-time favourite Canadian? The fact the CBC had this narcissistic racist bigot on for 35 years trashing the folks from Quebec obviously shows the irrational contempt many Canadians hold for the province of Quebec. I’ll say this, Americans are way nicer to deal with than the “polite” Canadians. Our great neighbours to the south are more genuine, treat Quebeckers with courtesy, humour and respect, unlike the “nice & polite” Canadian who’ll badmouth you as soon as you turn away, and if they could get away with it they’d backstab you.
Wasn’t Don Cherry voted one of the six greatest Canadians on a survey conducted by the CBC? (???) Grapes didn’t become a Canada icon and one, if not the most beloved and influential figure in this country because he won any Stanley Cups or promoted peace on earth. No, by broadcasting to millions, loud and clear, what Canadian really think but couldn’t say publicly. From his HNIC tribune the exalted Grand priest would unabashedly bark his fiery, very hostile sermon, taking a regular dump on Quebec folks. He couldn’t help himself, he just looooved putting down the “frenchies”, who made a HUGE contribution to this country. Yet they were dissed on NATIONAL TELEVISION for 35 years : “despicable cowards” “wimps” “cry-babies” on and on, He’s the shameless national conscience of this “phookin” country. Canadians loved him for speaking his mind… Him reaching legendary status constantly denigrating Quebec exposed a huge section of Canadians as entitled hypocrites and racistes bigots.
I cannot think of a better hockey interview ever, thanks for having Don Cherry on it is a travesty what was done to him and as a fellow U.S. citizen I so respect you Chris for standing up for what is right and sticking up for this honorable man who so loves his country.
Chris Nilan and Don Cherry…. It doesn’t get better than that!
4:22 "He had his greatest year playing for me."
Goal scoring for sure. But he won the Hart Trophy from 70-72 and had 139 points in 1971.
18:12 "I don't have any regrets."
One more reason for me to be glad he was fired.
30:57 Bobby Hull was left wing.
31:33 "Coffey would go to the outside, Bobby would go on the inside."
Ahhh... that helps explains why Coffey didn't have the knee problems Orr had. That was nice to know.
yeah he had a good year but obviously there was not much tread left on the tires by then - he barely played after that
@@pjpredhomme7699 You know, I keep hearing people say, "If only they had the arthroscopic knee surgery technology back then that they do now."
But I looked online and the person who invented that technology was a Canadian! And it was first performed on a Toronto Argonaut in 1967!
I wonder why he didn't do that.
Same with knee replacement surgery. That was first done in 1968. Was it good enough by 1976 that he could've just done that? No more knee pains, no more worrying about his knees locking up. Sigh...
Never backed down? Nilan ran from so many guys...watch a Kevin McClelland fight..he ran like a lil girl😂
Orr could literally dance around anybody with the puck. Nobody dominated like Orr.
Bobby Orr revolutionized the game, but I feel 90% of the players during his time where pylons.
he's pretty damn sharp for his age. crazy
Never watched another game after grapes was fired for facts.Ron MacLane is horrible friend. Coward who Don carried all those years. Shame.
Love you Don. You are for sure right. God Bless our hero’s in the field. My namesake died for Canadians in 1918. Never forget. He was 19 years young. You are a face of the real Canada Don. Bless you.
Chris as a fellow bostonian i truly appreciate what a hockey historian you are
Cherry for prime minister.
Don Cherry says that today's players don't know how to take a it. Well, that's because players of the 80s, 70s, 60s, they learned to play hockey with contact forme the age of 12 (maybe earlier) at a time kids had not much protection and the were aware that they had to protect themselves. Today, players learned to plays in an armour (not that I don't agree, we have to proctect our children) and skating the eyes on the puck, not seeing if anyone is coming to hit them.
Last week, Andrew Cogliano was hurt with a broken neck. Well, take a few minutes, watch the replay of the hit and see how he was positioned just before receiving a hit. No wonder why is neck was broken.
Today's game is fast and the guys are biger.
Minor hockey have to take the time to coach the kids how to protect themselves and how to carry the puck with the head up.
I was totally loving seeing Coach Cherry on your show Chris. I didn't like him at all as the Bruins coach however as a fine wine he grew on me on Hockey Night in Canada on Coach's Corner. Now he is one of my favorite hockey people. Thank you Chris for this classic interview with a true gentleman of hockey. And he was a great supporter of Canadian troops.
Thank you Roger, much appreciated!
Dons a legend !
Don is a racist !
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 so? Most people are. And most of those people have their reasons. I'm racist also. You're probably are also but a coward to admit what you feel
HNIC isn’t the same without grapes and Bob Cole !!! I no longer watch it I just get sad seeing what it has become
DON IS A TRUE HONEST CANADIAN THATS WHY PEOPLE GIVE HIM SHIT BECAUSE HES HONEST A STRAIGHT SHOOTER KNOWS HOCKEY BETTER THAN ANYONE
Did not know about this. I know Grapes has been largely off camera except for occasional interviews or his birthday pics. He's certainly sharp as a tack on the podcast. Cant wait for my autograph to come in
My God I miss hearing Grapes.and ALL his stories. In my opinion he is a Canadian treasure. Saturday nights have never been the same. Great interview Knuckles !!! 🏒🏒🇨🇦🇨🇦
Don always cares how he looks . Maybe these other two could throw a sports jacket on .
We miss the Don Father
Don Cherry is my hero! I like his flow 😂
Don cherry is a real true Canadian and got fired for it. Its a shame.
