Very nice swap the average joe can afford for their old fbody. Nice work! Great engines and performance on a budget. A nice cam and a tune will definitely pep it up if need be but its perfect the way it is for momma to enjoy. Great job man.
Great find on the hood. I've been looking for one for a while now. I just love the double scoop look, without being too 'bubbly' for the third gens like the RA2 hood.
Nice vid. This is something I am looking into doing to my 87' Firebird Formula with a LG4 in it.
Its totally worth the effort. Near twice the power, better mileage and manners as well. You can't go wrong!
That car is clean and sounds good to
Good looking ride !
I think so too!
Great work man! Are you in the Warner Robbins Ga area? I saw the tag on the car. I am in Thomaston Ga. I have a 91 Firebird base car with 305. Eventually I want to swap for a 5.3.
I live in Maryland now but am from Warner Robins. My parents now live in Taylor County.
Momma's car is clean!
Keep up the good work.
Dang mom!!
For gaige signal? I have 4th generation plastic gas tank. Carb 355
Awesome you did this for them. I restored my Dads truck AFTER he passed and thats my biggest regret that he didnt get to see it
He’s smiling down on you now brother, drive her and enjoy
@@deborahchesser7375 i appreciate it and hope he's proud. Thanks for the reply and kind words
@@teabag402 you bet buddy.
2.73 ring and pinion?
This car has a 3.45 geared 9 bolt in it
What radiator did you use??
Stock thirdgen radiator
@@MattWalter1 and you haven’t had any over heating issues? Good to know now I have a plan for my thirdgen LS build thx
@@user-xm6gs8oe3e yup, it's been great. Got lots of swaps out there with stock radiators!
what driveshaft and length
This car has a stock ls1 aluminum driveahaft. A stock thirdgen driveshaft will also work.
How is the fuel mileage?
i've not gotten to take this car on a proper road trip yet. maybe i'll do that soon. but it already averages above 20 mpg if i'm being nice to it.
What transmission?
it's a 4l60e
Assuming the Speedo/ odometer not working is do to the sensor on the transmission? Any remedy for that to use the factory gauges? Long way off to a swap for me if I go that route but curious still. 305 carb is so anemic and the money to make power isn't worth it in my opinion.
@@user-ji5kg6yl8z yes you can get a cable drive set up that uses a stepper motor to spin the cable. i have a used cable x box that i'd let go of that will accomplish this. i ultimately put a set of autometer gauges in the firebird to get it going. this car is all done at my place and is now of to the paint shop. my mom has gotten to drive and enjoy the car a bit already :)
I'd drive the wheels off that
Needs a rear spoiler.
i agree. after putting the RA1 hood on it, it seems a little front heavy. it seems better when running the torque thrust "fatties and skinnies" though. it may get a small early TA spoiler at some point. can't make myself do a wrap around on this one.
@@MattWalter1 I would not do the wrap-around either. Most of the later model Firebirds had the early Trans Am spoiler.
Just out curiosity why not the 5.3 or 6.0 motor?
great question! mostly due to availability, price, mileage, and knowing the seller was trustworthy. all that said, this has been the PERFECT budget swap for a car that gets used the way this does. amazing manners, peppy enough for my 68 year old mother, (doesn't every little old lady need a mid 13 second ride?!) and gets modern-car mileage. i would not hesitate to use another 4.8 in a similar build.
