    Thank you Louise for the easy step by step instructions. My Mom rocked the veggie beef soup and I have been trying to duplicate her recipe for years. Two years after my Mom’s passing I had a bad cold and found the last quart of her veggie beef soup at the bottom of my chest freezer. It was like a long overdue/desperately missed hug. I just came as close as ever to duplicating her recipe. Did I mention THANK YOU? ❤️. Today in Boston we are enjoying below zero temperatures but the instant pot has warmed us from the inside out!

    I made this two days ago. It was amazing! It is surprising how much broth is made by all the veggies. I used more short ribs for a richer flavor. This will be a go-to meal from now on!

    I made your beef and veggies soup/stew yesterday as it filled the Ninja Foodi and it was gone in a few hours as it was eaten for lunch and dinner. Your idea about the broth I think was the key as it packed a lot of flavor of beef. Yes I did the 30 min, 5 minutes and 2 minutes under pressure as my 3 year old could not get enough carrots. It was so nice to see and the taste was out of this world. Thank you for sharing and I will do it again next week and vlog it. Best and warmest regards

    Just wanted to say Thank You Louise for all the time you take trying out all of the recipes so the rest of us don’t have to try until we accomplish perfection. Even tho I don’t always make your recipes it definitely helps me when I want to create my own or adapt some others. I bought my Ninja food I after watching your videos. Since I live in Spain I wasn’t able to use your referral so I thought at least I’d thank you for your helpful recommendations.

    Louise the dish looks great you do not need to taste it the colours are enough this is going to be on my tablethis week, Louise could you use shin beef with the bone in to start the broth stay safe ATB

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      I think you could use shin beef, but you might want to increase the PC time to 1 hour so it breaks down enough and tenderizes. If it's a big enough piece, you can cube it up and just use that as the beef for the soup.

    Will this work in the slow cooker? Awesome video thanks for sharing. Stay well and safe.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому +1

      I'm sure you could do it in the slow cooker, but it's going to take quite a bit longer. I would probably brown both types of meat, add in the rest of the ingredients (except the froze veggies) and cook on high for 8 hours. Then add in the frozen veggies and go another hour.

    Great recipe! The only thing that would make it over the top for me would be to add some Barley.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      I actually added some barley to the one test batch that came out so liquidy. It was wonderful. You'd have to increase the liquid for sure.

    Do you ever consider putting the vegetables you used to start the broth into a blender and adding the liquid vegetables back in at the end?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      I haven't thought about that before, but that is a good idea! It would thicken the soup some, but I always hate throwing them out! I'll try it next time I make it.

    How would I go about making this a beef, vegetable, and barley soup?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      I did that with one of my tests, but I can't remember the PC time for barley. You have to increase the liquid by at least 1 cup.

  • @cynthia-n9w

    Will try this! A vid suggestion: Tons health nuts on YT are obsessed with bone broth. Most say 3 hours (!!!) under pressure with bones to get that congealed stuff that's supposed to make it healthy. I suspect you could put your science/cooking brain to use and let us know if that's necessary. xoxo

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      I did 90 minutes with a full natural release for a turkey bone broth and added a touch of vinegar and it was gelled perfectly. That being said, it won't hurt a thing to go 3 hours either. The most important thing is having the right amount of liquid for the bones you have. I tried skimping on that once and ended up with a flavorless watery broth.

    Could this receipe be djusted to add barley and thus have beef barley soup?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      Yes! That is exactly what I did with my watery soup and it was yummy. I'm going to work on a beef and barley soup soon. I can't remember how long I PC'd it because I was trying to salvage a disaster. LOL

    What’s the benefit of short release as opposed to a long release

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      There are some foods, like lean meats, that do better with a longer release to keep the moisture in the meat. With large pots of soups, a longer release will help prevent sputtering of food from the valve.

    When I select 'sear/saute' the display changes to 'COVER' after a short time....is this normal? Do I need to close the lid?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому +1

      You should not need a lid with sear/sauté and I've never heard of that error message before. I would call Ninja on that one.

    Could you add green cabbage to the recipe? If so, how much would I add?

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  3 роки тому

      Yes, absolutely. Just keep in mind that raw cabbage will give off liquid when cooked, so you might need to thicken more at the end. I would think 1-2 cups would be plenty.
