Update: I noticed that Roze used the words "devicer point" and the og anime used the words "devicer points".
Not a huge deal but it just adds to my annoyance with this series.
Another thing I forgot to mention is the intellectual element that you need to pilot an advance KMF.
Kallen was established as a straight A student and is consistently studying the manual of the Guren-MK-2.
Harukah doesn't seem to have the same attributes despite becoming the ace pilot of an advance KMF.
This is an important trait that shouldn't have been glossed over.
This series is really starting to feel like "We have Code Geass at home."
I started re-watching the original, and I think the biggest difference between it and the new series is that it wasn't afraid to slow down and give you time to get to know the characters. The new series feels like it's constantly rushing from one plot point to the next and trying to speedrun characterization so it can get back to the action. The characters were the majority of what made the original so memorable, so removing the focus on character development just makes it feel like a bunch of nothing in a Code Geass shell.
This is why I call this show, “The Force Awakens, but it’s code Geass”.

Its really crazy to me how every code geass spin off that's animated is never considered good, the world itself is interesting and i wished they did more outside of just reusing britanians and japanese.

I still think that Kallen or Suzaku could probably take on all the Einbergs at the same time and still take them out without a problem.
I mean, Suzaku single handedly took out four Knights of the round, including the Knight of one who used his Geass, along with a small army the Knights brought with them. Why is Norland supposed to be so much better than the Knights of the round?
I guess suzaku does not care about Japan anymore.

@LonggoBonggo It makes me wonder if he's reached his 'Mao phase' and perhaps can't turn it off and covers it like with Julius Kingsley's eyepatch. Still, though, it's probably OP as hell if he surpasses Bismarck.
The reason Roze of The Recapture does this in my opinion is because of Nostalgia factor. Similar to Yashahime in which both are made by Sunrise.
Perhaps if a second season happens, then i hope Sunrise learns from thier mistakes from Season 1.
How about making a series of Britannia's invasion of Japan? In the og anime all we get are glimpses and clues of what really happened. 13 episodes, show Britannia's rise outside of Japan, the moment of the invasion, the begining of the opperession of the japanese people, the reason why Todo is a miracle worker, the strategic operations of Genbu Kururugi. So much to unravel in a prequel.
Kind of wish the peace after the zero requim lasted for a decade or more.

Well because they didn't had a lot budget to preapare. In this time make 1 episode anime take cost to much than time in 2006. So they just make 12 13 episode. I understand they rushing. Just to make this anime takes almost 5 year since lelouch resurection. Anime industry is falling down which mean it difficult to make s2 for new anime and this one no exception. So that why some scene just copy paste from original.
@kotaindah2 I 100% agree, though I don't think the budget alone is why they've just copied and pasted scenes from the og show. It's one thing if it's an homage, but this isn't the case. I think the problem is that they're relying too much on the fanservice to carry the show, either that or they're traumatised from Akito's reception and thus have the mindset 'do what the fans love and we'll win', which isn't bad perse. The problem with that mindset often is that they tend to prioritise fanservice over logic, like the Damocles Version 0 (tehe) existing, and even if that wasn't the case the way they did it is very poor by writing standard.
@@starstruck8862 Yeah but that reality because mecha genre anime gundam didn't get special place in new fans. So that why they must use fan service. Just like happen in echi harem anime.
@kotaindah2 That's a fair thing to argue, but I feel like the Og series had a bit more of a broader scope due to the heavy focus on politics and ideologies in addition to the mech fighting, so I don't think its impossible to meld to genre of mecha with another, but as we've both said they're too afraid of letting go of Lelouch's hand. They gotta grow up like Nunnally and give something new a shot. I've seen so many people across these videos with more cohesive ideas for the narrative (with my favourite being the F.L.E.Y.J.A bomb threat under this video), but in my opinion, the reason Roze happens after Resurrection is so the legacy cast who aren't immortal can return whose appearances are mixed at best snd dumb at worse. People wouldn't be asking about Kallen and Suzaku if the show was willing to exist at the point where they were dead. Either way, I've made my point. I just hope that one day, from the depths of the Internet, someone will give us a Roze of the Recapture rewrite that is good, especially if the show gets worse.

Agree with everything. This show isn't being made to be a good sequel or even a good standalone story, but just to be a cheap cash grab for as little money and effort as possible (thus only 12 eps with somehow worse animation than the original from 2006...Also the pink/blue/green-ish filter on basically every scene is extremely noticeable and no, it does not make the coloring, lighting etc look better).💀
Makes me wonder if an abridger will come along and save this series if they don't somehow make the narrative cohesive and flow well in the next 8 episodes. Also, I wouldn't call it a cash grab based on the little number of episodes because other shows managed to do better with the same amount. I would call it a cash grab as it offers little to the universe of the franchise, and that's is heavily reliant on legacy characters and items keeping the audience hooked and make up for the shoddy narrative.
@@starstruck8862 I've personally yet to see a single good 12 ep anime honestly. As in a full story in 12 eps, not just a season to a larger story. But my point was that based on what we've seen so far (as he explains in the video), it isn't being executed very well and comes across as a cash grab type show (trying to repeat what's been done before and failing miserably). There's already too many flaws that simply aren't redeemable, so to speak.
@shibernyan2009 Oh, I see. That's fair to say. Though, I still believe in the power of abridgement to save this series, especially if things don't get better. Though, I'm willing to wait those out.
It looks good but the saturated effect on the opening sequence with the messy colours is awful and hard to watch.

To me, Roze of The Recapture is like Fate/Apocrypha. It's mediocre but I love the world building so I'll consume what I can.

4:07 It's true. Kallen was badass because you could see from the start that she was kicking ass in a normal frame. She was a step above all the other Black Knights. So when she finally got her hands on the Gurren is was seen as natural; she _should_ get a better frame because she already proved she was way above average in a bog standard one. Roze's problem thus is that it's _telling_ you Haruka is badass and not _showing_ you that she's badass like they did with Kallen. Don't have everyone around her hyping her up, show her doing things that justify hype.
Ultimately though I think because they are trying so hard to use nostalgia that they're not using the limited time they have to it's fullest. This show is _too_ much of a call back instead of doing its own thing. So for a 12 episode anime, nearly half that time is callbacks. And the callbacks aren't as impactful because they aren't given the room to breathe like in the original. Personally they should have either given it more episodes or kept the callbacks to an absolute minimum so they could focus on the story.
This is how they could have done it.
1. Say in the intro that the Noe B's brought in a Flaia warhead and are threatening to blow it if anyone invades.
The Black Knights have proof that their is a bomb and are forced to back off.
2. The Neo B's arn't in control for four years only a year, maybe a year and a half. The only reason its taking so long is because the Neo B's have the Flia constantly on the move so the Black Knight's can't disarm it, once they figure out where it is they'll swoop in.
'3. The Black Knights have to many ways of getting people who could shut down the Wall. I DO NOT BELIEVE they have no one smart enough to take the wall down
4.Let us get to know the little puppet king before you get ride of him in the same episode we get any interaction with him.
And that's how you fix it.

Yeah, so far we have Lelouch-alike, Suzaku-alike, Kallen-alike, Cornelia-alike, Tamaki-alike, Todoh-alike, etc. And they don't spend anywhere near as much time getting you to care about any of them as the original did.

I only watched the first 2 epsiodes but I seriously feel like this series is trying to hit the same high notes as the original Code Geass without the build up to earn them.
I want to watch this series, but R1-R2 is just too good. The movies and build up to the alternate universe never sparked an interest for me.

@shibernyan2009 Agree, it should have been Lloyd and Cecile. Although, I think the bit with Nina being told to stay in her room could have worked if the group didn't hate her for being Bristish, but instead hated her for making F.L.E.Y.J.A, which is more appropriate for the setting.

They are trying bank off nostalgia and why people loved Code Geass. But they do it so wrong. They could never bring any of the old characters back and still make us fall in love with the characters had they didn't just try to make money. These people don't know why a story that had no original sources, such as manga or light novel, was so great. Why people still talk about that story today.

My God Haruka shares my birthday....... You know I should be happy about this but I feel kind of dirty.
I think they should do it more slowly because they go too fast and that can ruin the pace of the narrative in the series and you won't be able to get to know the characters. The battles are not the only thing they have to do. Attract attention to how many episodes are left in case a second season occurs (if it does happen) they may have the chance to build the characters as they should. Even though the reason why at that kind of speed is so that they can make the series independent, it's just that they started something on the wrong foot but something like that had happened in the spin-oof so it's It's normal that they don't notice the mistakes, but in the next episode well-known characters come, we have to see how they interact with them if the people in charge achieve something with it.
I'm not trying to defend the series, I'm sure that when it ends, they'll cancel it, they'll make it non-canonical (because they thought it wasn't since the creator isn't involved), they'll make it a reetbot but not to The original series if not this sequel that would help them restructure everything and when it is released and well organized then everything is fine but it is my opinion I don't know if they will do that they will only make another anime Original without the mecha genre but with the same animation as code geas is most likely

You know I really have to watch this anime if people are saying it's bad or people are really saying it's code Geass at home I'm going to start watching it because something called being blinded by nostalgia and wearing Rose tinted glasses seem like foreign concepts. Nothing and I mean almost nothing that had any connection or was related to code Geass as a sequel would match or at least have a standing with the original code Geass it's almost impossible so going into the series expecting whatever yeah just treat this like a new anime because you're basically pissing yourself off by making those comparisons I guess the simplest way to put it is your dampening your own experience of the anime sometimes you just got to turn your brain off to enjoy an anime there's nothing wrong with that

As old CG fan this video makes me consider skipping through politics talks part and focus on battles and fan service, it seems the writers forgot the fans are already adults who remember most details or underestimated how much we can comprehend and compare.
The show is good. I was expecting a dumpster fire after what all these UA-camrs have been posting. But no it was good. It has some plot holes but overall I liked it so far.
I didn't get the impression that other youtubers covering this series didn't like it.

Yeah the show seem like rushing story and difficult for new fans to understand story. And also some this scene just copy paste from past with new character except they add more fan service naked female. But sunrise must do this becsuse the budget to make anime in this time is more expensive from time original so they must make it in 12 episode. That reason the story is rushing. But still hope suzaku and kallen back again in this fight.

It's kind of sad that Lost Stories a mobile game has a more unique story than the new Code Geass.

Half the reason people watched season 1 CG was because it was about a student playing as Batman to lead the rebel alliance.
This show doesn’t have that so I lost interest. Needs more then just hot girls and ass shots to replicate old Code Geass

No, the "recap" movies and the Resurrection movie are all a non-canon alternate universe.
There are many points where the movie universe is incompatible with the anime: Shirley doesn't die, Mao doesn't exist, Shirley didn't shoot Villetta (Diethard did), character motivations changed and thus their personality changed, etc
Roze is part of that non-canon universe.
And as we can see the whole thing was made just to milk the franchise, using fan service and nostalgia. Fans have been complaining about that ever since the "recap" movies came out. It's quite divisive because some people do fall for the fan service tricks, but the people who want good quality consistent writing are not happy at all.
Yes and no. It's not canon within the original 50 eps and Akito the Exiled. It's canon in the alternate universe from the 'recap' movies, and Roze of the Recapture is a sequel to the movie you're referring to (Lelouch of the Re;surrection).
@@shibernyan2009Don't confuse "canon" with "official". Both the movies and the anime are official, but only the anime is canon. The movies are basically like official merchandise, like images on t-shirts and such, i.e. official but clearly not canon.
Canon is the "one true story", there isn't such a thing as "different canon". Unless the franchise owner declares so, of course, because they have the power to do so. Like how Star Wars used to have layered canon (until it all was thrown out and declared non-canon).
But in the case of Code Geass there have been no statements regarding layered canonicity. The only official statements on this matter are that the movies don't follow the anime and that he movies are an alternate universe where the characters have different motivations and personalities. And thus, they are by default non-canon.

I clearly remember in the 2nd or 3rd recap movie Suzaku recognizing Rolo, saying they met in the EU which only happened in Akito the Exiled

It's not just Haruka. The team of good, the protagonist, the Villain's - everything is a pale imitation of the original.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say Rozé idolise Lelouch and thinks that being blood related to him, automatically makes her a good leader. Which is false.
Nevertheless, Rozé is really weak as a leader. She doesn't really show the exceptional talent that could make her a good ruler or a world changer. Same goes for everyone else.
At this rate, I am starting to wish, zero would just appear and steal the show from these guys, solve the problem and disappear again.

I would have thought that's the point.. to make it similar, but a little off. They're not trying to rehash the magic, they're giving you something slightly different within a shorter time.... And that's the real issue, you want it to be longer and you're finding reason why it should be... even if the creators really don't want to do it.
For all the political stuff... I would assume this is Code Geass version of north Korea. The place with the crazy dictator that have their own media spin on things..... With them saying this other princess/princess is the real emperior.. and ignore there are still people alive in the Britannian family...
I mean, even if that's the point, that doesn't make it a good point (though I assume you aren't implying that it is a good point) since Haruka's scene is the epitome of 'telling over showing'. It's especially worse since she's got massive shoes to fill but hasn't even been shown to be anywhere near the same path Kallen walked in terms of skill.
Oh.. i also learn this the hard way.... this side story is based off of the movies.. where Shirley lives. So I don't think you get to take the show as an example of reconning... when the movies already did the heavy lifting.

And the recap movies have nothing to do with either of our points so bringing it up seems irrelevant, and even if they and the retconning were relevant that doesn't change that fact that Haruka being dubbed as 'Ace' is a case of telling over showing. I don't mean to come off as rude but you seem to have avoided the point I made and I am genuinely confused by your response.
@@starstruck8862 Haruka.. isn't Kallen and I don't think she'll be on the level as Kallen. I'm going to assume Haruka is going to have a different story arc than Kallen... Not having a complicated love-hate relationship with their version of Lelouch and Suzaku. Maybe have her own thing later down the line.
