The beauty of Konkani is that there are so many varieties. We gsbs must ne humble enough to accept that this mother tongue of ours originated in the konkan region( gomantak) and as we became refugees due to Portuguese atrocities, different influences have led to different dialects and usages of our beautiful language
Very nice and proud to see his interest and efforts in learning the language as a passion. It always gives that privilege to a person and feel that belongingness in a society and enjoy the socio-cultural status by learning a foreign language. I believe, that we as parents should always make an effort to at least teach all the languages that we know or learnt by our parents to our children especially our mother tongue if not any additional languages. That way we keep the languages alive. It is easy to kill a language and culture but very hard to preserve and promote them.
I could not speak a word of konkani when I was in school. Felt awkward when a comment came on same from couple of school friends. And I asked my parents why they not talking to our generation in konkani but using the lang with their siblings and all relatives. Around that time I started speaking konkani to everyone. Today my lang still not pure rather its like khichadi but still am using it and loving it more and more. So proud being born as GSB and have routes in South India.
Highly commendable effort 👏🏾 I think not having a script owned exclusively by our Konkani language is a stumbling block in speeding up the process of learning our language . So we must make every effort to talk only in Konkani to our younger generations .
Unless taught in schools, it will fade away. Script does not matter. Even the Siddi Konkani people are being forced to adopt Kannada in schools, which will end their dialect.
It was a very interesting discussion. I was wonder struck listening to his chaste konkani, a language which is not so easy to learn. His suggestion to bring uniformity in the spoken konkani which differs from place to place is commendable. Konkani in Mangalore is different from that spoken in Kerala or Goa or North kanara. Mr. Guru Baliga asked the guest very interesting questions. Next time the guest's wife should also be invited for Sakhi-Geet interview.

Very much inspiring to younger gen. Who choose english over their mai bhaas, as a matter of pride. We as konkanis, sometimes fail or find it difficult to explain, baraita types, different expressions to non konkanis. As gino said, they wont get the answers they wanted.
Choi is used in the Saxtti dialect of Konkani, while poi or polloi is the Bardezi version. The usage in the South might have something to do with which areas of Goa the migrants went from
