Hey Paul, thanks for taking my call yesterday about the tail lights. This video is very informative as well. It would be awesome to see a "Top 5 MK7 Visual Mods" as well. Keep up the great work!

"I don't know what to do with my hands." Great video, just like your others! I'm relatively new to the VW/MK7, having switched from supercharged MOPARs and lifted, built jeeps. Your videos have been a wealth of knowledge! I've had my MK7 for 2 months and so far I've changed to intake, added a catless downpipe, dogbone insert, straight pipe catback exhaust, solenoid-driven bov, and a short throw shifter. Unitronics stage 2+, is38 turbo, and twin intercooler are coming soon. Keep up the videos!
@@Freshman24727 my friend had a descent fast mk4. He had a hybrid KO4 turbo along with upgraded injectors and fuel pump. He was on straight e85. His car was easily pushing about 280-300 whp. Thing was pretty quick.

I definitely agree with putting the Cold Air Intake @ #5. There is almost no gain from doing it. It adds noise but the other mods do so much more in a price per performance ratio.
Great video thanks for the tips, just got my mk7.5 had it for 3 weeks only did an intake and my and muffler and resonator delete so far but definitely going to be doing a downpipe and a better intercoolers next

Did it not occur to you that some people love to modify their vehicles? My last car was a v6 charger. I had a supercharger + supporting mods and was dyno'd at 537 wheel horse power, not crank. With the money I spent, I was putting more power to the wheels than a Hellcat for way less $$$. Doing similar to my new car, a MK7 GTi.
Good solid list of recommendations. Unitronic Stage 1+ seems like a great way to enhance the performance on a Golf R for occasional tracking. In doing so, what other engine components would we need to modify. For example, would we have to upgrade the spark plugs to accommodate the increase workload? Any other components that would need to be factored? Thanks.
No spark plugs are required when doing installing a Stage 1+ tune on your car. Take a look here we have all the info you need for your MK7 Golf R shopdap.com/mk7-golf-r-audi-s3/

There are a couple cat-back exhausts and intakes you can buy. If you want power APR can do a tune for the 1.8 (at,least in the US, not sure whats available in Canada). You can also upgrade the turbo and downpipe. Best thing for the 1.8 is better tires. Mine came with 195/65 all season low resistance tires. Great for fuel economy but the engie overpowers them very easily. Id start with tires and wheels and an exhaust if you want more speed.
Hi ! From Canada too and I start to modify my Sportwagen !! There is alot of mods that will fit both TSI and GTI. @@buffalobill2965 I only have a downpipe on my mk7 gti, dont even know why I did it. So recently my mechanic offered to do stage 1 software for a reasonable price, I said no thanks. Your friends are right. The wheel spin is horrible especially in wet weather. Also not nice when you launch control, it makes a horrible sound when it loses traction and hops. This may be a dumb question. But, are you able to run a Cobb stage 2 with the stock downpipe? I have a 3” cat back straight pipe and a ram air intake. Apparently it’s recommended that you get a high flow down pipe with a Cobb stage 2. Why is this necessary? I don’t want to go complete straight pipe. That’s too loud and It sounds great as is. New to modding and having a great time with my GTI. Are there any supporting mods with the Stage1 Tune or can I just hope right not that. Sitting stock right now mostly because of warranty. And also the IS38 upgrade...are there supporting mods before a turbo upgrade can be done? Thanks
I'm kinda new to modding my gti, is there any mods that will improve my car power/sound or anything if I do not get turbo tuned stage 1 or stage 2. Need help!
MeltingRubberZ28 Is that right? I thought the mk7 gti and the vrs 245 were the same car under the skin? IS20 on both? Interested to know if this isn’t the case....
MeltingRubberZ28 just to clarify, I have a Skoda Octavia VRS 245 which is effectively the same car as a Golf Mk7 GTI - at least that’s how I understand it.
Scott McLain stage 2 is normally the downpipe upgrade. Stage 3 is the turbo upgrade but you will need an intercooler upgrade too. At this stage you will have to upgrade the clutch.
Stage 1 Tune for a 2012 GTI requires no added hardware correct? Also all your Tunes on your shop say the tunes are for 91 gas. Can it be used with 93? I'm pretty new to all of this.
Deutsche Auto Parts thanks! One more thing. Are all these mods compatible with the 2012 GTi? If not can you direct me to a video you guys possibly made in the past? Thanks again!
Open air intakes have no gains and decrease power a little. But if you get a closed cold air intake your car will breathe better. Those hot air open ones are the ones that make that whoosh sound, that's the only benefit, the sound.
I've watched several videos where they take cars to the dyno and show that air filters give 0 additional power to the engine. What can you say about that?
nutz79ful Apr stage 2, down pipe, intake, cat back, new spark plugs and fuel injectors, discharge pipes, new turbo, new intake manifold. Boom you’re like at 400 lmao
APR Stage 3. I had a mk6 Golf R before getting my new GTI and it was once of the fastest cars I've ever driven by far. It is expensive but I do think it is completely worth it.
interested in adding some of these mods, will the DSG handle this added horsepower? out of this list, which mods REQUIRE software. i dont mind bolt on adds, but leary about messing with software.
B. Elkins you will only need software if you go with upgraded downpipes. If you get an intake, catback, or any other bolt on like that you'll be fine. My dad is running Stage 1 software on his MK7 and the DSG has no problem holding it. The new problem is trying to get more traction.
recently picked up a new mk7 tsi 3dr. though the car was bought to be a townie, it will be modded eventually, just can't leave things alone I guess. anyways, I see a few mods for power upgrades, but I am more interested in what can be done for better throttle response.
***** I think you might be confusing this with an effort that car manufacturers were making to lock their vehicles in these circumstances. This has not been passed to my knowledge.
im a little new to modding my new mk7 gti but i was wondering if you could get a downpipe and intake from like apr or unitronic without the software tune, would it be ok?
yes ya can get without software... just a downpipe will help an intake ONLY enhances sound.. BS to power increaseThe ONLY reason to get downpipe first - if ha KNOW ya are going stage 2 software.( usually cheaper straight to stage 2 than buying stage 1 then later upgrading to stage 2) Some will upgrade software to next level for "free" if ya buy their hardware. Software is THE biggest bang for the buck period.
+britishav8tor75 yes software is the greatest bang for the buck... I personally KNEW I was going more than stage 1... So - for me- would have been silly to pick a software company that charged more to go higher. If ya have a plan- the best way is not always going for stage 1 then stage 2. The intake only matters AFTER stage 2 w bigger turbo. The exhaust is OK- I eliminated the first cat- still sounds stock.
I live in California and would like to purchase a tune ecu and dsg from unitronic, however a flash tune can that void warranty from my vw dealer..anyone know

I have an Octavia vrs mk3 (245hp) - why does the golf gti get a +100hp bump from software whilst the stage one apr for my car is about +30hp
Turbo on the MK7 is bigger and therefore with a tune you can get more flow/boost and make a lot more power
MeltingRubberZ28 Is that right? I thought the mk7 gti and the vrs 245 were the same car under the skin? IS20 on both? Interested to know if this isn’t the case....
@@spooksy1982 your original post says MK3 not MK7?
MeltingRubberZ28 just to clarify, I have a Skoda Octavia VRS 245 which is effectively the same car as a Golf Mk7 GTI - at least that’s how I understand it.
Doesn't make any sense then. I'd email APR and ask. I'm going to run the JB4 on my GLI for now.
I have a 1.4t mk6 jetta. does unitronic have any mods for my vehicle?
Not at this time... take a look here www.getunitronic.com/ecu-tuning/Volkswagen-Jetta-MK6-14L-TSI-2015-2016-150hp
my goal is to have my mk7 GTI get 350 hp. what would be the best way to achieve that? I'm kinda new to tuning/mods. Thank you
Downpipe and tune will get you around 300-320 depending on the tune. Then the next step is is38 to give you another 70 or so.
If I have an APR stage 1 tune and get the turbo upgrade does the stage one tune still work? Or do I need a re tune.
Scott McLain stage 2 is normally the downpipe upgrade. Stage 3 is the turbo upgrade but you will need an intercooler upgrade too. At this stage you will have to upgrade the clutch.
I'm buying a 2018 R and was also thinking of changing the muffler for better sounding what would be ur recommendation
It is very loud and throaty with a muffler delete. Res delete is quieter than a muffler delete but louder than stock.
Catless downpipe, APR Tune (stage 2) and Coilover's (about a 2" drop all around).
You will be a straight up Go-kart on the street. It will be quick.
Stage 1 Tune for a 2012 GTI requires no added hardware correct? Also all your Tunes on your shop say the tunes are for 91 gas. Can it be used with 93? I'm pretty new to all of this.
+Oroku Saki yes no hardware required. You can use 93 on the stage 1 file but you would be better off going stage 1+ to maximize power.
Deutsche Auto Parts thanks! One more thing. Are all these mods compatible with the 2012 GTi? If not can you direct me to a video you guys possibly made in the past? Thanks again!
If i have dp for mk7 gti i need tune as well
Are the mods for the Gti as effective on the 1.4tsi ? Also is there a risk of the engine blowing due to the upgrades?
the 1.4tsi is not good for tuning/upgrades as it it is too small and breaks easily
What can use for my 2017 Jetta gli ?
Cobb is coming out with mk7 platform idk which is best to go with I need suggestions
can you do a video like this for the 2.0 gen3 gli power mods
What is the cost to mod a 2017 Golf R to bring the HP and torque close to Audi TT RS levels (approximately 400 HP and 354 lb ft of torque)? Thanks.
Joe Goodman 35-40 for car 1,500 fir stage 2
Joe Goodman - You will need: Intake kit, downpipe, intercooler, and stage 2 software plus labor. About $3,000 plus labor.
what software I can use on my VW golf R mk7 to increase power? how much is expected in Hp and torque? where can i buy?
Mohamed Essam giac,Apr,eurodyne about 699$
Mohamed Essam those are all ECU flash so your car about 300hp crank with stage 1 you be around probably 370whp
Intake doesn't give you any hp fyi. I removed mine after a week after noticing a decrease in hp.
Alot of it depends on the particular intake and your particular vehicle.
I would have to see specifics on car, intake installed and the dyno comparison including days times and ambient temps.
Hope this makes sense
Paul
They tested the filters in different cars. Natural aspirated, turbos... always the same power output
negroggi Sounds like this was an air filter test and not an intake but its tough to be sure. If you can share where you saw this I can take a look.
What about mk7 gli? I got mk7
i have a 04 Audi A4 1.8t what upgrades do you recommend to get to 300 to 350hp and can the stock turbo handle it.
nutz79ful Apr stage 2, down pipe, intake, cat back, new spark plugs and fuel injectors, discharge pipes, new turbo, new intake manifold. Boom you’re like at 400 lmao
Is good to recommend to all use the right sticker to :)
what top 5 mods would you recommend for the Golf R MK7?
Rich Criscuolo its the same except for turbo.
The DSG will never have to be touched if you're under 500hp maybe even higher than that. The DSG is an incredible transmission
Similar list for a '09 MK5 TSI?
Yup similar list with a few intricacies.
Nathan Philps most likely
recently picked up a new mk7 tsi 3dr. though the car was bought to be a townie, it will be modded eventually, just can't leave things alone I guess.
anyways, I see a few mods for power upgrades, but I am more interested in what can be done for better throttle response.
I would recommend the obd11. You can run the Audi program for linear engine response and can modify pedal response as wel
Do you have to flash back to stock before service?
Will the IS38 fit on a mk6? If it does, would it be better/more efficient than the K04 off the mk6 R?
IS38s would not fit a MK6
alright thanks for the info man! dig the channel by the way. keep the content coming
will these mods void the VW warranties? thinking of buying a new GTI but would hate to throw away all of the warranties a new car brings.
Take a look here we talked about this subject ua-cam.com/video/Vn6777TDxI8/v-deo.html
***** I think you might be confusing this with an effort that car manufacturers were making to lock their vehicles in these circumstances. This has not been passed to my knowledge.
+Lon Horiuchi bs
Depends where you live. Colorado Springs has no emissions. The area I live in in Florida doesn't either.
lol no its not
Would those mode works on a TDI?
Is the IHI IS38 turbo kit going to overpower and damage the DSG trans?
+Dustin G no that is not a concern
Deutsche Auto Parts I've seen that a is38 costs less than a catted downpipe, so what do you think about software+ intake +is38? no downpipe.
@@dimmacommunication bad idea. Buy a CTS catted DP for way less than an IS38
would it save me money to just flash to stage 2 instead of stage 1? I would assume so.
+BennyKsBandwidth yes with would be the case but you need the downpipe first
Oh alright, because I was going to do it all one fell swoop kind of deal ready to drop like 4k on my vehicle.
Do these work with mk 7.5?
quaddoproductions yes, same generation. Same engine and platform as MK7.
will the dealer know how many times a car has been flashed?
yes
im a little new to modding my new mk7 gti but i was wondering if you could get a downpipe and intake from like apr or unitronic without the software tune, would it be ok?
yes ya can get without software... just a downpipe will help an intake ONLY enhances sound..
+britishav8tor75
yes software is the greatest bang for the buck...
Why do tires never make the power mods list? Tires are what put power to the road. You can only go as fast as your tires.
I live in California and would like to purchase a tune ecu and dsg from unitronic, however a flash tune can that void warranty from my vw dealer..anyone know
You should take a look at this video ua-cam.com/video/Vn6777TDxI8/v-deo.html
APR Plus
same for TDI engines?
Dog bone insert and tires will do more for performance than a down pipe.
dean marriott doesn't the dogbone fuck up the diff?
why would it effect the diff?
