One of my earliest memories of Magic was our favorite employee at my LGS telling us bright-eyed bushy-tailed 12 year olds, "Friends don't let friends play Slivers." He was one of the few that wanted to help us kids really get into magic and helped us feel welcome. For that reason alone Slivers will always have a special place in my heart
Slivers were a favorite of mine as a kid! Their overlapping shenanigans was very fun to me. A classmate of mine was all in on Slivers all through high school, and apparently still treasured his Sliver deck after he joined the Air Force. He tragically passed recently, though, so perhaps I will work on a Sliver deck in his memory. Thanks for this video, Nizza!
yeah they're hard to use in constructed formats because they're so far above the curve of most other good slivers. They're the best for commander though
Same. I first learned magic from a camp counselor back in like 2002 and his two decks (slivers and goblins) have permanently had an impact on my tribe choices in magic. That dude was running original slivers and had 2 sliver queens unsleeved. Looking back oh my goddddddd.
It's interesting to see the evolution of the card art. The original slivers were all very similar in shape, then they started making them more animalistic, then more humanoid. They got some backlash from the humanoid slivers, so they went back to the conic head and claws
The humanoid slivers are exclusive to one specific plane too, at least out of the planes we have seen them in. Which sure, probably was done in response to the backlash, but I love the concept of them evolving into humanoid and animalistic forms to confuse or create doubt within the natives of the plane. That plane is also the one with the slivers that only buff slivers you control, and not everyone's so there is that
One of my first notable mtg memories was from way back when I was 11. I currently was in the “stick random cool cards together” phase, and still didn’t have a full understanding of the game quite yet. My mom had a friend over, and the friends (30ish years old) husband came too. Somehow it got brought up that I play magic, so he left immediately, and came back with a sliver deck to play against me with. He proceeded to annihilate me. It wasn’t even close. I made gameplay mistakes since I was new, and he only laughed and made fun of that along with my deck making skills. After he beat me, he jumped up and yelled “In your face! Haha!” and proceeded to brag to all the other adults about how easily he kicked my ass. I don’t hold that experience against slivers, or mtg, but damn it was a sucky experience for an 11 year old trying to learn the game.
My first ever homemade deck, my first ever Edh deck, and still my favorite creature type after starting mtg 10 years ago... the memories are flooding in, God, I love Slivers, man.
I’ll always appreciate how when they first came out in tempest that they are a cheap and viable option tribal deck that did well competitively and still can be.
When I started magic the first deck I made was a sliver deck, I bought a queen for £10 (yeah seeing the price now is scary) one of my favourites was the Horned Sliver because it gave trample, heart sliver giving haste, muscle giving the others +1+1 and winged because of flying… they were such a good and interesting creature type and I miss my old deck along with others. Sadly I don’t have them anymore which is sad but this video was awesome glad I took the time to watch it.
Just yesterday i watched the Top 10 Ninjas video where you said you covered the most popular types excluding Slivers, but i didn't expect to see my favourite creature type this early, thank you so much
My first sliver deck is agro green/red back in tempest block. Now I have white/green counter sliver deck and edh sliver. The funny thing is when I brought this two deck, plenty are challenging me and if multiple commanders are set, everyone ganging up just to beat me up!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS Everyone loves Slivers. They're such a cool way to get people interested in MTG, they teach a lot of evergreen mechanics while doing so, it's easy to get the synergies, and getting down multiple Slivers feels so good. Give someone a Sliver deck and you will get them interested in MTG. 100%.
Slivers were one of my first tribes since Legions came out shortly after I started playing. I LOVE my slivers and still have a legacy sliver deck to this day.
if MTG continues down the current story path, we will see slivers vs pherexians vs eldrazi vs planeswalkers in an all out war of the multiverse, all four being rainbow armies.
@@slimyfister Pherexia, planeswalker s and eldrazi would be able to. Not slivers. Each tribe has at least one member still alive with the ability to make more. It is only a matter of time before those four are in one last war

@@NizzahonMagic The closest we've gotten is an alt art Sliver Overlord appearing in a 5 color themed Secret Lair. So yeah, the lack of a completely Sliver themed Secret Lair is really surprising.
Used to play on my lunch break, always hated it when the guy I was playing against brought out his sliver deck, especially after he added Nicol Bolas to it.
I've started M:tag in 2006 wit Orzhov and Boros decks, but the first deck that I wanted and created are Slivers, due to the love of granting abilities to others, in a very altruistic way. This is the reason I Slivers will always have a warm spot in my heart :3 thanks for the list! EDIT: I was expecting the Gemhide, the Crystal and the lords, but I were expecting the Synapse and some legendary, especially for the combo you can build with the queen. interesting :D I guess that the harmonic will lose value against the recent creatures that destroy enchantments/artifacts on ETB, therefore being surpassed by the pauper-legal slivers
This video has really shown me to use that popper the best format by far, competitive magic deck is going to cost you hundreds $1,000, where you can find a very good for about 30 to $40, I just wish official stores would hold opportunities
My sliver commander deck is a bit of a boogeyman to my playgroups. One other player loves them more than I do but hasn't put a deck together get, but if I pull the slivers out everyone goes for the saltiest decks they can throw back at it. It's wonderful "fun".
Love this list. I love Slivers not because of their power but more for flavor. Buncha hyper-evolved hive mind engineered monstrosities. Makes me wish I’d finished my biochemistry degree 😂 probably a good thing tho
I made a sliver deck for a local game night one time, and my first opponent was like, "This guy brought a sliver deck!!! hahahaha!" I didn't do well, but I still love the concept of slivers.
Ah Slivers, the creatures that drew 4th grade me to MTG back when Tempest came out! I was so hyped when Stronghold released, my parents got me my 1st & only booster box just so I could track down that Sliver Queen! Then some neighbor kid stole my Sliver deck... but hey, the memories were great while they lasted
I'm disappointed they wimped out like Hearthstone did with murlocs and stopped making the tribal buff affect enemy creatures too. The meme factor of mirror matches is what made the tribe so entertaining.
Am I the only one who stops the video to read the flavour text? By the way, I just crafted an Historic Brawl deck with the First Sliver, what a coincidence!
A) It's amusing that the sliver hive had to share spots on the list... as they share everything. B) I'm pleased to see that most of the m14 slivers didn't see play... I hated their art direction.
Slivers is probably my favorite tribe solely because in a 4 on 4 match, any new sliver or losing a single sliver immediately changes everything and can make an unwinnable position capable of gaining the edge or losing it all.
I own at least one copy of almost every Sliver card. I even had a sliver EDH deck with the Queen as my commander (cuz I have guts and didn't want to copy everyone else and use Overlord or First). But slivers are really only fun in concept and to collect, not to play with or against. They quickly become extremely formulaic and predictable, and thus, boring. And nobody wants to play against slivers because you snowball with the exact same combinations of slivers almost every time - or lose hard because you didn't draw the slivers you needed.
How did Queen Sliver do? Nothing here is a sliver token generator and it was a beast (5 mana is hard but Gemhide makes it a potential turn 3 nightmare).
the state of Magic between 2005 and 2014 when the lowest-cost creature with "etb destroy artifact or enchantment" was harmonic sliver, and your other options either cost 5 (indrik stomphowler, acidic slime), and anything else in the same role had you pay a cost and usually go down a card
slivers my favourite creatue cards.. got a playset of every sliver, except the queen.. she was too expensive for a full playset.. But a single copy i have for commander
I still think Slivers should have stuck with giving the bonus to all slivers, it's flavorful (because the hive mind) and sets them apart from other tribes. I probably know why it has been changed, but for me, Slivers lost a bit with that
I'm really surprised that plated sliver only has points in Pauper. It definitely is part of legacy silver decks. I guess that is proof that silvers aren't even tier 2 in older formats
Does anyone else ever hear a UA-camr say "if I sound weird it's cause I just got over a cold", but you can't tell a single difference and they sound exactly the same as before?

Playing magic with friends in an emperor format. Three of us play sliver decks on our side and quickly crush our opponents. awesome.
3 sliver decks together is an extra special level of evil.
I did something similar once, but instead, one of the decks was a token deck with 4 of that artifact that turn all your creatures into slivers
