  • *Not my property/not for-profit.* Tierra Records TRA-0001 - This is the twentieth single by the incredible East L.A. group Tierra, released in 1985 (towards the end of their original run) and co-written by Skip Scarborough. And a MINT copy, of course! The lead track, “You’re In Love” is a Latin-influenced 80s slow ballad driven by synth, piano, and brass, while the B-side and second A-side are both synthy disco-funk dance floor bangers. Tierra, of course, was formed in 1972 by the Salas Brothers, Rudy and Steve Salas. The brothers had first recorded the vocals for The Jaguars’ 1965 lowrider classic “Where Lovers Go” / “Discover A Lover”. They then released a few singles under their own names (backed by The Jaguars) throughout the late 60s, such as “One Like Mine” and a cover of Phil and Harv’s “Darling (Please Bring Your Love).” In the early 1970s, the Salas Brothers were early members of El Chicano before forming Tierra. The brothers and their band were incredibly talented and stylistically versatile musicians. When I was a kid, former members could be seen at my music teacher’s studio in Boyle Heights. Rudy died on December 29th, 2020, followed by his brother Steve a little more than a year later on February 22nd, 2022. R.I.P Salas Bros. Thank you for the beautiful music.
*This is a direct vinyl transfer, straight from the platter to the line-in on my Tascam digital recorder, saved as a 24-bit .WAV file, and synced to the video. Always* #ortofon
