As something to note, the humans in One Piece are plain out super-human in terms of recovery time and endurance to injuries, among other things.
just to let you know, Merry survived the attack because the cuts werent that deep. he was injured, but Kuro had been rusty enough that he didnt deliver a fatal blow.
Edit: also Zoro is Zoro, no powers to speak of, just an unbreakable will and skilled at Three Sword Style. but that being said, he IS called The Demon of the East Blue.

Don't worry about people who complain about the pacing of the show, the pacing is good they just want less episodes.
This year is genuinely my first time watching the anime because I prefer the manga but I think early on the pacing is good. Later on though, it's a well known fact that in order to stay behind Oda in manga releases they began padding the anime with filler and using more freeze frames and recap so an episode only covers like 5 pages of the manga
at the moment an episode is covering exactly 1 cap of the manga
i still dont think the pacing of the show was ever an issue, and i'm 900+ eps in the Funimation Dub, though there was one arc that felt it was dragging a bit.
There is some translation errors to look out for. In japanese the pussyfoot maneuver is actually called the slippery vagina maneuver

nah, the Live Action is gonna suck. Animation just does not translate into Live Action, even Death Note couldnt be brought into Live Action well, and that is the most basic to translate.
The Issue with Kaya, is Kuro was with her for 3 years, so she thinks she knows who he is despite learning that he was a Pirate. She thinks she can talk him out of it because she thinks she knows him.
Well it is a historical fact that Pirates would give sailers an option to join their crew or die. Not that hard to imagine Kuro forcing his men around out of fear.

Also people that say this arc is slow, are most likely Manga Readers. Manga goes pretty quick when you read it so this arc goes by really fast compared to the Anime which needs the time for characters to speak their lines. I will add though that the Anime is old Animation wise, like for example Nami is standing behind Jango while he is hypnotizing Buchie, which makes her look dumb for not doing anything. When in the Manga her running to wake up Luffy and Jango hypnotizing Buchie are happening at the same time. This isn't possible to do in the same scene with the old Animation when this came out.

don't listen to people saying slow or anything, just follow it. at least within a year already in Arc episode a thousand
It's not that it's the slowest (in manga this was chapter 31, compared to anime episode 13) it's that this arc is considered to be pretty mid, especially compared to how good the rest is. But if you already like one piece this early then you gonna love the rest even more.
The "pussy foot" is just subs being weird. But gotta admit 抜き足 is kinda challenging to properly translate to English. Or they could simplify it down to "silent foot" or something instead
Little info to understand the mentality of some of the characters. Even if they don't look like it, most of them are teens ranging between 15 to 20. Like Coby being 15 or Zoro 19 years old. Some other details to add but I won't spoil it for you.
You do a good job figuring out the ins and outs of the series and most of the questions you ask yourselves about it are really critical to understanding the lore and background the author is designing.

It’s these character traits that make Nami feel more grounded, and makes her one of my favorite characters. I can’t stand a Mary Sue.

It's not that simple. It's isn't happening in Baratie, neither in Arlong Park. Even if you mean it as 'the second strongest man on opponnent side', it's still isn't always the case tho
Luffy is too dumb to get intentionally hypnotized, it was a complete accident

Generally, most anime adapt the manga at a pace of 2 to 3 chapters per episode
One Piece generally does 1 chapter per episode, which is why it some times feels slower than some other series

That's only true starting from the 600s, it followed the usual pace you mentioned for about 200-300 episodes before slowing down to 1-2 chapters till the 600s.
Omg, I forgot how much I hated these two cat-astrophies. Zoro now could body them both with a flick of his pinky toe.
