I totally agree with your theory of bass detecting boats and motors. Whenever the fishing sucks, I often revert to long trolling a couple lines out the back of my small Lund and just use the oars to slow row. I witnessed an elderly gentleman do this daily on a lake in northwestern Minnesota, with two old cane poles when I was a kid, 45 years ago. Every day he dragged a mixed bag of huge fish back to the dock, musky, bass, walleye, pike, crappie. I was certainly at the age of ten this old man was the best fisherman in the world. It’s work, but the rewards are amazing, especially with the new generation of soft plastics that are available today.
Totally agree with the light intensity Randy. That “lull” from about 10-1 is when I know to start finessing them with something easy for them to pick off. I like to think like the bass so when that happens, I would move to an area where I have a better chance at ambushing prey. Of course, this depends on multiple other factors, but it’s kinda like when we feel like it’s super bright out we wear sunglasses to be able to see things better. Bass dont have eyelids so imagine how much the intense light hits their eyeballs. Theyll either look for cover or run deeper right below that colorline.
During tournaments I like to powerfish/topwater/larger baits first thing early morning right up until 10ish. When the bite slows down, I slow down. This is the part of the tournament that separates good anglers from winning anglers. Gotta be able to grind it out and finesse em if theyre being finicky. I try to look for patterns and towards the second half of this “lull” period around 12/1 is when I try to figure out the transition in patterns and end the tournament off with power fishing if I notice a specific pattern. For example I was in a tournament where they were up on docks and then later in the day I wasn’t catching em the same as the morning. Turns out, they started congregating at the larger boat houses and completely left the smaller docks. Based on that I only targeted the larger boat houses and skipped the smaller docks. Caught a couple more key fish and won the tournament from there!
Well done Randy. I’d like to hear you use Lake Cumberland in future discussions if that lake fits a particular topic or a personal preference. Maybe not as much as Table Rock Lake but a more lake-specific discussion that bass fishermen in this area can apply to be more successful.
Don’t know if you would do it on this channel or one of your other but you should do a tackle room tour. The more I watch these videos the more I’m like “Dang! His set up is pretty sweet!” 👍
If you have a tournament down south in tanic water , try a purple , blue , and black spinnerbait with a black head and put a number 4 to 5 Colorado blade copper hammered blade , a regular arm spinnerbait not a short arm is what I mean , they work so good in tanic
While I know your LS silliness on LS gets you WAY more views (thus, coin $$$), but THIS is the kind of video that you do that has ACTUAL, REAL-WORLD VALUE to actual bass fisherman that maximizes your experience and knowledge. I watch everyone of these and like them a lot.
I will agree, this is a really broad topic. Any possibility of you covering this in a series format. My preference would be in a serial format, but done in a live cast format. Obviously, because its you, you'll need moderators to keep out the "I hate Randy" crowd, but it would be of great value. I volunteer to moderate if you do it.

Here a lot of canals have an under cut dip in the bank and when the tide is a lil higher in the cypress trees or toupagum trees , I like to pitch a spinnerbait into those flooded trees and let it fall on that undercut cave and the bass here will smoke it
Hey randy I couldn't help but notice a bit of contradictory information you mentioned in this video vs other times you've talked about the best times to fish. Here you mentioned fishing is better in the morning with certain light conditions and there is a lull from 10-1. (Around the 15:30 mark) But in several other videos I've heard you say that you get most of your bites around 11-2. Just wondering if I'm missing anything and if you could clear that up. Thanks
the high water portion got me thinking…what is the science and/or anecdotal evidence behind the point in which bass want to move away from each other from the perspective of either direct resource completion or literal aggression from other more dominant fish? i think if i hit on a school of fish at a lay down can i use this sort of information to determine how many fish are likely to be there so i can know if i should move on quicker or take more time? the thing about bigger fish occupying flooded areas got me thinking about this they probably stay put longer because they had the best positions anyway whereas the other fish had to take the opportunity to move from whatever the dominant fish let them have on the fringes and get there before dominant fish decides to get those spots in the flooded areas too there’s obviously critical moments where fish have to move and a critical resource level that allows only a certain number of fish to occupy before either someone has to move or is forcibly attacked unti they leave
Learn how to find and catch bass in every conditions there is on any given day and you’ll be more efficient by adapting to the changing conditions. If you overdo fishing then it’s all in a trance for you to spin out. Find the mystery’s in bass fishing and you’ll be okay if not then keep on learning.

All species of fish are screw buy this technology. In Wisconsin, virtually all major lake requires yearly stocking. Every lake will eventually just be a commercial fish farm for the economy impact to each local economy. Chamber of commerces should just subsidize FFS.

Low water fish shallow but get out further from the bank and fish a lil deeper too
