Randy, don't forget about the 'Speed Trap' by Cotton Cordell, who I do believe is the mfg... I still use Speed-Traps but for me that was the first 'Square-Bill' Crank-Bait that really caught a lot of Bass for me back in the mid to late ''80's ' and or in the very early '90's.
    Love this Channel! Great content!
    FISH-ON!!!

Good one , my shallow cranking is very good , but I suffer with deep deep cranking , we have a lot of shallow water here is one of the reasons I do very good on the shallow cranks , but when I leave home and go north I need to learn the very deep ones , thanks mr Randy , loved the video too

Brief history of the square bill..Fred C. Young was the inventor of the first, the Big O, Young's lures were hand carved out of wood and it was later produced by Cotton Cordell. Norman Lures shortly after came along with the Big N both these lures were plastic. Bagley then followed with the Balsa B.

You really know how to make me feel old! At that time in my life I would jump right on Strike Kings release of there spinner bait & Bangley's release's of baits. Fifty years 🤔, seems like yesterday. It took me a while to get the nitch square bill filled, but it's a big part of my arsenal now.

Hi Randy just saw your video come across and I just wanted to say. What a great tip about two much and not two much color on your Crank bait. MAW bass.

I think Luhr Jensen first brought out the speed trap, and now it is a Rapala product. Cordell may have made and sold them too ....Im not sure. But my 70 year old memory is that Luhr Jensen was the first speed trap makers. Regardless, they've caught lots of big bass.

Hey Randy. Great information on squarebills. However, wanted to make a correction to what you mentioned about the origin of the Big O. The original Big O was a hand carved balsa bait designed by Fred Young in the early 70’s. A few years later, Norman introduced the Big N, a plastic bait version, when the whole “Alphabet” bait craze hit.

Good video, I live up here and MN and I like to use them in cabbage and coontail and tick the weed tops, with all our weeds up here grinding them into the bottom gives you a squarebill full of muck.

I’m not a pro fisherman but as far as square bill lures I’ve caught nice bass one after the other on the rebel Chrome lure than any other bait. And fishing in the bank in a hard wind in my face I have caught large bass in 5 to 6 pound range one right after the other on a mud bug my late brother in-law taught me that try it some time.

Randy lucky strike has a 1.0 and strike king makes a 8.0 there are a lot more than 3 sizes of sq.bills the two i mentioned are the smallest anf largest i have ever thrown.

If you have not used the Tackle HD square bills you’re wrong. They sell them two for $8 and I just smash on these crank baits.
