Here's a bit of historical information to Yarey Melendez. THE MERENGUE WAS BORN IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. The Dominicans own it by the grace of God and it was the Dominicans whom gave it it's flavor, shape, and form. The merengue is the soul and heart feeling of a people. The Dominican people. As much as plena is the soul of Puerto Rico. It was a Dominican musician from the 1840's called JUAN BAUTISTA ALFONSECA BARI whom wrote the first merengue ever into the musical staff. According to historical data, the ' son ' from Cuba originated in the Dominican Republic but it was taken to Cuba by two sisters and guess what ?? It was the Cubans whom gave it shape and form, so they surely owned it. But then in the late 60's and early 70's a Dominican band leader called Johnny Pacheco created a new form of the Cuban music and named it salsa. But furthermore, he created a musical institution called FANIA ALL STARS where the most well known Puerto Ricans salseros and some Dominicans too were born. Johnny Pacheco was the man behind the idea, and businessman Jerry Masucci was the financist behind it. So my dear Yarey, it just goes to show how we all (Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans) have so much in common, not to mention such a rich cultural background. But just for the record, the first city founded in the new world in 1496 was SANTO DOMINGO. The first university was also established in SANTO DOMINGO. By the way, the university it's still kicking and many of the students come from PUERTO RICO. The first cathedral was founded in SANTO DOMINGO. During colonial times the center of operations of everything that took place in the three islands was none other than SANTO DOMINGO DE GUZMAN. Yes, the capital of the Dominican Republic. So yes, there is plenty of Dominican culture to go around. But I think that applies to all three islands. We have to stop thinking of ourselves as being better than the other and instead cherish our culture and love and respect each other.
I agree, in my area the line is blurred between Puerto Ricans and Dominicans...they hang out together and are intertwined between families marrying one another without prejudice and guess what....like Cubans they share the same exact ancestral background meaning they are the same exact peoples spread across the Islands.
Luis Pimentel I am Mexicano by descent and I would like to thank you for the history lesson. This music has taken the Latino Culture by storm. The music, rhythm and melody should be known through out the Latino world, it needs to have a name and an origin. Mucho Gracias!
Actually, that's not fully true. 'Historical' data does not point to any Dominican influence on Son. In fact, i have read on a site (with no legitimate basis) that very same story, and yet nothing i have ever researched, that actually holds credibility, has ever confirmed that story about the sisters from DR. I am talking about major studies done on Cuban culture and history, by world renowned ethnologists and musicologists. By the time Dominicans actually migrated to Cuba (which came way later in history, probably after Cubans were travelling to DR), Son was already established. Son came from Changui and Nengon, both products of Oriente province. Neither had any instrumentation or arrangements from DR. Merengue is said to have originated from the Habanera dance in Cuba, which many ethnomusicologists believe to be true, but to be honest, i give that the same credibility i give that story about the sisters from DR. Which is virtually none. Merengue has more in common with Dominican Palos than anything in Cuba, same way Son has more in common with Changui and Bolero in Cuba than anything in DR. Don't take this as me trying to say one is better than the other, but i have heard the whole "Sisters from DR in Cuba thing" and i can't find a single relevant document that confirms it in the slightest. Cuba's rhythms and culture go back a very long time, as does DR, Haiti, PR and many other places. But you are correct about something. Cultural swaps occurred over the course of history. Cubans love Merengue and Bachata as well and have used some of it in modern music. Same goes with Reggaeton. They call it Cubaton in Cuba. There is certainly alot of swapping back and forth in the Caribbean.
So many Haitians and Puerto Ricans hating on Dominicans in the comments! Haitians creating fake profiles like if they were Dominicans and talking shit about us. Get your facts straight! Merengue and Bachata are solely from the Dominican Republic. Such a twisted title!

Can someone help me please? I would like to know the title of the music used in this video. I will look for it on spotify. Because we plan to do a dance number like that. Thanks!
Right lady. Now go fight by yourself! No one is claiming anything and nobody wants to claim anything of yours or your culture. This group is performing a dance representing music and culture, not trying claim anything. Just because merengue originate it in the DR does not mean it can't be heard in other parts of the world and appreciated. Think about it for a second and tell me I'm wrong?
William Clark Lopez No one is saying Merengue cant be heard in Puerto Rico or any other part of the World but saying that Merengue is a Puerto Rican Dance is False because Merengue comes from the DR!
Merengue is a type of music and dance originating in the Dominican Republic, which has become a very popular genre throughout Latin America, and also in several major cities in the United States which have Hispanic communities. In the title no where does it say anything about any merengue music or dance being from Puerto Rico however, it does say Merengue is a part of our music culture on our island of Puerto Ricao. We listen to it and have many puerto rican groups and artist that sing and perform merengue. The only thing the title says is, Puerto Rican and Dominicans dancing merengue. Thats it.

Bravo! Thank you so much for saying that also Puerto Rico has merengue as a native dance. How ever, Puerto Rico's merengue is a slow and romantic dance. It has a danza fusion.
I agree, in my area the line is blurred between Puerto Ricans and Dominicans...they hang out together and are intertwined between families marrying one another without prejudice and guess what....like Cubans they share the same exact ancestral background meaning they are the same exact peoples spread across the Islands.
gamecollect101 ... That is so true ... I see it now more than ever.
Luis Pimentel I am Mexicano by descent and I would like to thank you for the history lesson. This music has taken the Latino Culture by storm. The music, rhythm and melody should be known through out the Latino world, it needs to have a name and an origin. Mucho Gracias!
Manny Padilla Thank You so much my friend.
Im puerto rican and i dont hate yall....
@@787VIVO. Glad you don't. I don't hate Puerto Ricans neither. Many people from your country do hate on Dominicans and I don't know why the fuck is that.
@Our Song, I know right? Like why would you claim something is endemic from your country when you know it's not! TF is wrong with people nowadays?!
I want to learn this!
this is strictly Dominican dance that originated in DR along with bachata , idk why it says its also a puerto rican dance , their music is mainly salsa
Salsa isn't even theirs it was originated in Cuba.
Jony polo Im saying that is what they mainly dance to
+Jony polo salsa is from puerto rico lol what you talking about?
that is so true
Ismael Rivera was the first salsero. Who is Puerto Rican. Salsa grew its fame and exposure in New York from Puerto Ricans. Cuba has son, mambo and cha cha cha which are all beautiful music, but salsa is 100% Puerto Rican.
Respecto la opinion de todas las personas, pero el Merengue es el baile tipico de la Republica Dominicanan aunque se baile en otros paises como los es Puerto Rico.
Im puerto rican half columbian but im sad i cant do tha dance D:
The song is called Puerto Rico by grupo heavy.
Ellos hay puertorriqueños que cantan merengue pero es una música Dominicana 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴
Most African Nations continue this same Dance from Thousands of Years ago. When I was a little girl my Family Members danced SAME DANCES IN movie "Dance With Me"...
What they show on DWTS" is only European Competition Dancing. However the Real Deal is Cuban mixed African, Puerto Rico Dancing in Clubs of New York, Chicago, Florida, Lis Angeles,.
This dance is OMG I wish I was like those kids😁😁😁
So incredible
The first salsa bands were predominantly "Puerto Ricans" who moved to New York since 1930’s.
Johnny Pacheco from Dominican Republic was the main creator of salsa in the Bronx and formed the Fania.
Another thing lots of people don’t know that “son music” is originated in Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 by “Teodora Ginés” and she and her sister Micaela took it to Cuba 🇨🇺. Lots of Cuba don’t agree with that but musicologist from Cuba confirmed that it was Teodora Ginés from Dominican who first played and sang the first “son” in Cuba music history. Check this musicologists from Cuba, alejo carpenter and Lauren maton I believe and there is others but don’t remember well.
Even “bolero music has to do with Dominican Republic.

All this goes back as Dominican Republic, was the first place where Spaniards settled in America on 1942 and built the first cathedral, first university, first road and much more here. In other words, that’s were everything started in the new world, but they don’t teach that in United States 🇺🇸 and in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I guess.
Also, On 1500 slaves were introduced for the first time in the Dominican Republic or new world, which the Spaniards called first “la hispañola”. Original name of the island by the the native taínos is “kiskeya”, that’s why they call Dominican, Quizqueyano.
Well, later on after lots of conflicts and wars lots Dominican migrated to others neighbors island, like Cuba and even Puerto Rico. For instance, Teodora Ginés and sister Micaela migrated to Cuba.
Dominican Republic has to do a lot with their neighbors music history and influence. Therefore Dominican has always played “son” and it is on its history, Dominican son.
Dominican music is not only Dominican anymore but belongs to the whole Latin and world Because everybody has been enjoying our music for decades. 🇩🇴🤣🙏🏼

Merengue dance and song by Grupo heavy Puerto Rico
Came here hoping for a My Blue Heaven re-enactment. instead got the origin of the SNL skit where Fred Armisan hosted a talk show and every guest who showed up had to dance their way on.
IT WAS A REALLY GOOD DANCE BUT ONE GROUP OF PEOPLE DANCED BETTER THAN THE OTHER.
It dosnt matter who created what dance it's all latin dances and we all the same shit no matter if you Puerto Rican or dominican or Cuban all these dances are apart of latin culture
Fred Ogden then why do Puerto Rican’s not saying Dominicans don’t do it but Puerto Ricans Do it more start claiming shit
I have to do this dance at school
One part was wrong but this is still amazing !!
I think the title refers to Puerto Rican and Dominican dance (kids from both nationalities dancing together). This video was probably taken in the states and some of these kids were not even born in PR or DR.
Dominicans 💪

wow! awesome performance. anybody know what the first song is called?

What is the title of the background music..thank you in advance ☺️☺️
I am glad I watched this because I am Dominican and the good thing is that they speak spanish so do I because am dominican
Me rompería la espalda haciendo esto🤣
People dont claim anything that was created in the Dominican Republic because we Dominicans fight for what is ours💪🏻😁🇩🇴🇩🇴
Thats it.
William Clark Lopez the problem is that they say it’s theirs when it’s not no one said they couldn’t listen to it!
Salio en francia Lo trayeron en Haiti y lo llevamos a ustedes
It's the Latin culture, all latinos have the same passion for rithm. I'm Dominican and love all latin music and play all rithms in my percussion instruments, we are the seasoning or the spice of life ViVa LATINOS,
We all descendent from the same common ground. Just be good to each other. Peace!
3S4EVR talk to the tiggered boricuas saying merengue, bachata, and salsa is theirs salsa is Cuban and merengue and bachata are Dominican they can say they had an infuelence in them but they can’t claim it just because it’s popular

Music no matter what culture should bring us together not tear us apart as a hispanic community
Then why is it always your people (assuming your PR due to the flag) starting the beef by not being respectful about their opinion and claiming music that pretty much everything else says is from a different country. Explain that.
And we should know better but we don’t why do you think people are shot by the tens and attacked every single day?

Dominican Republic only has Dembow,Bachata, and merengue but who cares i still dance my songs like there was no tomorrow
Coño el mejor merengue. lo dejaron para el final....
WHAT IS THE TITLE OF THIS SONG THAT IS PLAYING?
Salsa and Reggaeton are Puerto Rican, bachata was created by Puerto Rican Odilio González, and Merengue is Haitian
Limitless Mistakes merengue isnt 1% haitian. Meremgue uses spanish instruments not french😂yall haitians need to back off and leave out culture alone lol
