I liked how honest this is. I'm still coming to terms with my accident. Falling on your neck when you're 14 isn't really a normal adolescent experience. Thank you for making this.

Kit, your very welcome and I feel for you I really do. I have thought about how different things would be if this happened at a younger age as apposed to when I was 25. I am thankful that I had many of my teen and early adulthood experiences as an able bodied person.

30 years ago, my mother was in a car with her boyfriend and she had no seatbelt on. Her boyfriend was driving and he hit a curb. She was luckily flung out of the window, if she hadn't been, she would be dead. Her side of the car was completely crushed by the impact. She landed in a ditch and broke her spinal cord. A couple months before, she had wished that she could be in a hospital to lose weight (because hospital food is horrible) little did she know, that would happen. She has never let her paralysis stop her from doing anything a normal person would do. She swims, drives, had kids, got married, works, and is happy. She has never let her injury make her sad because she knows that she is stronger because of it... I admire her positive outlook on life and hope to grow up to be as happy as her.

I have a friend who also would not be alive today if she had been wearing her seatbelt. She was thrown clear and the area of the vehicle where she had been sitting was crushed. Even though her life was saved because she didn't have her belt on, I will not start my car without putting my seatbelt on. I believe it should be a personal choice and not a law.

Oh dear, when I was 20, while driving to work with my little car, that morning I felt so tired and I drove straight on a curve.
I've broken L5 splitted in two parts but the spinal went only partially damaged.
It took 6 month to learn to walk again.
I've been lucky after 32 years to use the wheel chair only when knees don't let me walk anymore.
    A big hug from Italy

Plus serious injury to the t10 vertebrate . Right now I'm about to be discharge I'm scared. I've learn a lot at rehab and watching as must you tube videos about paraplegic living as I can. @republican4u2nv78 6 років тому +1

TheUnknown Nobody said he isn't doing fine for himself 😂 Again, felling bad about his accident isn't close to a pity party. For you to claim you speak for him or his feelings is quite laughable... especially putting words into people's mouth when the comment is very clear.

    • @theunknown9372
      @theunknown9372 6 років тому +1

Republican 4U2NV I never said anyone said he wasn't doing fine, just stating a very noticeable fact. Also, I never said to claim to speak for him, I said "it SEEMS like he's doing just fine and doesn't look like he wants people feeling bad". Sure, you're correct a person feeling bad about an accident isn't a pity party but, if you actually take the time to read the comment it says they feel bad for him NOT the accident. In which case, obviously the comment isn't very clear if you can't even state it correctly. So maybe before trying to "correct" someone, get all the facts straight.

I am forntunate enough to walk but I am still considered a paraplegic that began as a quadraplegic at the onset of the accident originally....thank you for being such an inspiration and showing me better ways to deal with my new life... It's been almost 13 years and I am still getting used to it..... Thank you for sharinh

Hello Brain, Thank you for having the courage to share your story. It has to be helpful to many. I am so sorry for your accident and pray for you to stay strong and well. I googled the word paraplegic so I would know how to spell it and up came your video. Due to meeting a relative recently who lost his leg in a motor cycle accident back in New Hampshire and hearing his story this caught my attention. He became an Olympic gold medal and silver medal winner in the Olympics back in Japan and also went to school to learn about prosthetic and how to design them. He still ski's and rides a mountain bike. His will to succeed is amazing and he even got asked to ski in a Warren Miller movie, jumping out of a helicopter on the top of the mountain on one leg. His story is amazing and you reminded me of him, by just doing this video and sharing with people what it is like and how to just do simple things like getting dressed. keep it up and I am glad I was able to hear your story. We never know when it could be us. It gives me much more understanding and encouragement! Thanks again!

Our cousin was driving his motorcycle down a country road when a car turned just ahead of him, he tried to slow down still hitting the tire, landed in an open field, but his injuries were fatal. Totally know the feeling of not being able to wrap your head around something, my doctor had to repeat a procedure 4 times before I could comprehend it. I wondered why he never grew impatient with me so I guess he figured out what my problem was. Anyway both you and your videos obviously provide great inspiration & strength for many. We know a couple with 2 young children in wheel chairs who will certainly benefit. Thank you! 🌺

You are such an awesome person, plus you have a Fantastic attitude about life! I wish you nothing but the Best for the rest of your life. I am sure that in about 100 years (long after we are gone) that medical science will come up with a break threw on how to completely repair a severed spinal cord. It would be so awesome if they found a way to attach stem cells from our own body to our damaged spinal cord and have the cells rejuvenate the damaged part of the cord. I know it will eventually happen, I just don't know if it will happen in our life time. You take good care of yourself, I'm glad you are working and getting on with you life and not feeling sorry for yourself. I just recently just had to go into a wheelchair. No doctor can tell me why I can't move my legs, even when we went all over the US. I don't know how it happened, I just know that a doctor overdosed me in the hospital and the next thing I know, I can't walk. I'm hoping that this isn't permanent, but your videos have helped me learn things that my rehab hasn't, so thank you!

When I wrote this, there were very brief moments that they'd work, but no one wanted me to fall and get hurt, so I was in it all the time. I've been diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease and EDS that can both cause that sort of thing.

Motorcycle is not the danger, people are. People need to get out of their phones, ride/drive safe, have others in mind, don't drink or do drugs and drive... My brother passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2012. A car pulled out in front of him, he laid bis bike down and slid into another car. He was wearing a helmet but died instantly due to a brain injury. His daughter was only 2 at the time, she just turned 11. What I would do for him to still be here. I'm so glad you made it and you're spirits seem well 💙

Hey man. I recently was in a motorcycle accident as well. I was on my way to work and less than a mile away, a cab blows through a stop sign, leaving me with no time to react. Well, that was about 1.5 years ago now. I've watched most of your videos and its inspired me to get back into driving soon. But I felt the same exact way as you explained while I was in the hospital with the doctors coming in and poking me everyday. And being so drugged up for so long, you don't have a real sense of reality and what has actually happened. I'm naturally hard headed, so I won't let a doctor tell me what I will and won't do in the future. I'll make those decisions for myself. I've come a long way since the accident, and I don't plan on slowing down any time soon. Don't get complacent. Keep pushing forward.

He won't even leave the house unless he absolutely has to. What a miserable way to live. It all comes down to choice. Do you want to be miserable or man up and deal with it? Glad you chose the latter.

It is really hard to accept things like that. But we have to for in acceptings comes "healing". And in my case I had tumor of the spine and was hospitalized late. So before and after my operation I can't walk anymore. And it felt like my health deteriorated after my operation. I was 8years old at that time. But still life goes on. I am just lucky that a family adopted me and taught me things and loved me for who I am. Now I am a mother of a 12 year old hard-headed kid 😆

I injured my right shoulderblade (10 fractures) my left arm ( 2 places) and my back but it was injured gladly that way that I still can walk. The only thing that I still have is that my muscles in my whole body are in constant pain because of the accident. I flew 30meters through the air and head first into the woods and I hit a tree with my head. I bounced back a few meters on my back. I'am so happy to be alive

Thanks for sharing your story. The way you've adapted with such obvious grace to your new life proves that what we really are is not our bodies, not our circumstances or experiences because all those things are perishable and change. What does not change and never fades is who we really are - the soul, the will, the sprit to never give up, to keep moving forward. It's why humans no longer live in caves and have stood on the moon. The human spirit can never be confined!

Back in 88 we were all into the street racing scene in Philly.me and my best friend were supposed to race a rival dude one night but my friend didn't feel good and wanted to go home. I was kind of bummed but I found out later on that night the guy we were supposed to race was killed along with two women in his car on route 130. It took a week to find the women cuz they floated up a water channel behind the Woodbine Inn. My mother And I were watching the news when it came on. He was doing the speed limit, she just didn’t see him. He was 26 with two sons and a wide. He died. His parents were devastated, and almost 1 year to the day later, his mother died. I'm 20 and I had spinal surgery in my teens, and now I've got a disc bulge causing pain. I too think about all the things I'd have done differently, thinking about how different things would be if I did this or that. Even though my case isn't as bad as yours, I still suffer as a young adult dealing with this. Because of your prolonged sitting, do you end up with backaches or disc problems?
