    Thanks, NF. Have you see the "Fallkniven A1 destruction test" here on YT? Amazing what it took to destroy the Fallkniven. Tester says itI'd be shocked if the Cold Steel blade could match that test.

    I dislike how many people comlain about the longevity of these videos - I want to know every intricate detail. I don't have much money to throw, so when i'm in the market for something and I see a Nutnfancy review, I immediately home in. I can't afford to be unsure about my purchases, because $150 or $100 on a knife is a huge freaking purchase for me. So his hard work gives me huge gains. Thanks, Nutn. Big fan!

    Cold Steel SRK is heavy, but best bang for the buck in my humble opinion, they also work well as dive knives if you want something tuff.

    I know it cancels out the "Laminated" part of this, but with the new SRK being offered in CPM-3V, I'd say the advantage just shifted in a sizeable way toward Lynn (and his oversized ego.)

    Been considering pulling the trigger on a Fallkniven A1 or SRK for several years because I wanted a stainless steel knife for those long, wet periods here in the north woods of Maritime Canada. Cold Steel just released the SRK in an all VG-1 build, and that looked about perfect so I ordered one a couple days ago. I love Fallkniven, but they are simply over priced, and the quality difference is marginal. People knock CS but my Trail Master has held up well over the years. If the SRK is as good, I'll be more than happy.

    Nutn, Fallkniven used to distribute cold steel before going it on their own. And like Cold Steel, Fallkniven designs knives, but doesn't make them. Cold Steels San MaIII knives, and Fallkniven's laminated VG10, are made by the same manufacturer, start to finish. There is no "old world" in Fallkniven's offerings, as their initial line, was a reworking of the Cold Steel designs that they used to distribute. Think of the Northern Light series, and how, well uhm "similar" they look to the Trail Master and Recon Scout.
    I have owned both. I am 6'5" and have large hands. The exposed tang of there Fallkniven knives bite into the meat of my hand. I also find that the VG10 core chips MUCH easier than the VG1 core.
    The people who come on (not talking about you NUTN) and show their ignorance by bashing Cold Steel when discussing these 2 manufactures, cracks me up).
    I have owned both an F1 and an A1. Those 2 knives were quickly traded out of my collection. I have an SRK, a Master Hunter, a Natchez Bowie, and a Trail master in San Mail III that won't be leaving my collection. Overall, I prefer Cold Steel's designs in their San Mai III over Fallkniven designs. Manufacturing is a wash, because it is the same manufacturer.

    My 15 year old Cold Steel Carbon V SRK is one of my favorite blades. I've carried it for literally thousands of miles and used it for many camps. If you shy away from carbon steel because it might get some surface rust, then you worry WAY too much. A little rust on a blade just shows that it's good steel. Wipe it off and keep going. It's sad that Cold Steel discontinued that steel.

    • @pbhead
      @pbhead 8 років тому

      +Blakgun Agreed! The U.S. made Camillus Carbon V is still the best knife steel I have ever owned. I have several Carbon V knives including a Carbon V Trailmaster from the early 90s. It has seen a lot of strops, but has only needed grind sharpening twice in the last 15 years.

    Those two are on my top knives list. Unfortunately my SRK is in aus 8 but it still a great knife. The S1 is probably my favorite knife that I own. The cutting edge on both are extremely close in length. I'm not a big fan of the ricasso on the SRK. Although I don't prefer choils, I'd prefer it to that flat ricasso the SRK has. I like the was Fallkniven got that edge as close to the handle as possible. As Nutnfancy said, the S1 was designed to be used in cold wet/ snowy environments and therefore was designed to be used with gloves, hence the thin handle. Great review! Oh the S1 sheath does have drain holes by the way. It's actually a slit the inside the lashing area at the bottom of the sheath.

    Hey nutn.
    Younger guy here, I've got twitter, Facebook instagram, etc.
    I just want to say something, and I'll send you a letter because you probably won't read this. But where are you going man? No more tabletop knife reviews because they only get 6k views? I'm one of those 6k. That is the reason I subscribed.
    Back to the contest. Just doesn't seem like you. Are you giving knives away because your knife review days are going far and in between.
    Lately I see a lot of stuff you're psyched about. And why you are. I miss the criticisms that made me enjoy the SOG flash, Kershaw Leek,and even understand a little about blade steel.
    Seemed like it used to be about getting info out there, updating on new stuff. Now it seems more things directed to amp up views.
    Hope your family is well. Thanks for everything you've done. Hope the future is bright for you.

    I think that Cold Steel San Mai III uses VG-10, and the Fallkniven 'CoS laminate' (or whatever, the 3G is something else) uses the 'San Mai III' method of lamination... with VG-10. They ARE identical, steel-wise.

    I've three Falkniven knives.
    S1, WM1, U2.
    The only one which I'd buy again is the WM1.
    I've the S1 in semi-black coating.. Semi because it's coming off quite easily.
    Black coating that I've on my zero tolerance is MUCH more durable.
    I didn't put it through any rough use and it's already pretty much wear down, including chips on the blade (no I did not hit any rocks, no abuse of the blade..).
    U2 is a nice, lightweight pocket knife.
    But for less money and same size-category you can have one of these mini spydercos like dragonfly 2, which actually has gimping, better grip, better handle, more useful blade shape and stronger lock.
    The lock on my U2 is quite loose.
    Sharpening stone I've to send back to Fallkniven due to poor quality. It was replaced free of charge but ppl I know were complaining about Falkniven's customer service and the interwebz seems to confirm that's not one of the best, diplomatically said.
    Finally - the price. I would turn a blind eye on the coating, chipping, lose lock, customer service, etc if it would be somewhere around the Byrd's price range ... BUT NOT IN THIS PRICE RANGE!
    Fallknivens are EXPENSIVE. You expect superb quality.
    Frankly I'm much happier with my ZTs or Spydercos.

    For those who are looking for a great blade steel, but don't wish to become bogged down in super-steel debates...I'll summarize. A good rule of thumb would be: CPM steels are (price excluded) superior to non-CPM steels, in pretty much every possible way. There may be other steel manufacturers out there producing powder-made steels, but Crucible Steel is the best known company..

    • @EgaoKage
      @EgaoKage 9 років тому +1

      EgaoKage I'd like to add that; CPM 3V is, by far, my favorite blade steel. It can even be used in sword making, when tempered correctly.. Many steels couldn't claim that level of versatility!

    It was your SRK vid that made be choose it over the FKVN years ago. I don't cry when I abuse it like I would a safe queen.
    The only thing that gives me a bit of a downer about it is the way the secure ex sheath has been nibbling at the handle material from long term use. It reached a point that it didn't wear as much, but for awhile I was worried that either the SRK would start becoming loose with that lost material.

    Really disappointed in your "contest" Nutn. Way to make loyal TNPers feel like second class citizens. You should be insightful enough to know that a huge, maybe even the majority of your audience doesn't do twitter or even Facebook for that matter. Furthermore, you've limited this to other content creators, and eliminated folks like myself who absorb content. I've never made a video, nor will I ever. But I've been watching your videos, faithfully for years. And I don't recall EVER not uprating one, either. So, double owls like myself are automatically out. I'm not crying about the chance to win some yet unidentified, random knife. I'm disappointed that in an effort to become even more social media mainstream, he's excluded those that make up the heart and soul of his project.

    Will the Falknivan A1 throw sparks off a ferro rod? For that matter, do stainless steel knives throw sparks?

    I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm a newer TNP'er. I'm not exactly sure when I subbed to Nutn', but it was probably under 2 years ago. That being said, I've consumed a lot of the content on this channel, including the older stuff. I get nostalgia and why it might ruffle people to hear Nutn' talk about a video not being worth making if it doesn't get views. The thing is, some of you don't seem to understand that there is a business model at play here. If Nutn' continually pours time into content that is not successful, the income support of the channel stops. When the money stops, the content stops. This may have started as a "labor of love," but I can assure you from what I've seen, it's much more than that now. The amount of money that has gone into products reviewed on this channel (and I know he sometimes borrows instead of purchasing,) is mind boggling. You want the content? Be a part of the support structure by giving this channel your sub and views and stop complaining when Nutn' does what he does best and points out reality.
    My last soapbox rant will be about people complaining about the contest. Don't be ungrateful, and stop expecting give-a-ways to cater to everybody. Don't do twitter, but really want to enter? Go set one up. It's free, and social media isn't the boogie man. It won't kill you, especially if you never use it again. Same thing with featuring this channel in your youtube profile. You don't have to be content creator to feature a channel. Go to your channel, on the right side just a bit down from the top is a featured channels area. Add Nutnfancy. Easy, painless. I did it and I'm not even entering. I'd prefer a real knife guy win anyway. Stop being a bunch of entitled babies who think effort required to win free stuff is an affront to your patronage of this channel.

    i'm going to be honest with you, i think i know which the "secret knife" is, the other, no clue. But i have been featuring TNP on my channel since i knew you could do that, my first thought was, which ones should i feature, take a look (TNP, Sootch00 and ReallyBigMonkey1) all are still my favorites.
    Thank you Nutn, doing honest reviews. The best with TNP is still the philosophy and political videos even though i live in Sweden, but i agree with you almost always (especially the philosophy videos). I´ve been subscribing since 2010 i think.
    Thank you Nutn and Greetings from Sweden. And thank you for giving me life advice and how to think logical in certain matters and keeping me away from the "Sheeple" lifestyle

    Any recommendations for a fighting knife I am not old enough to carry a pistol and was thinking about getting a cold steel boot knife because I have army boots I were every were but are there better choices?

  • @2Kdrive
    @2Kdrive 8 років тому +1

    Well The Swedish knife is design for someone at way down in a paraschute, releaseing from seat with both weight and design for survival and bushcraft, so it's not a sword, or huge long survival knife but with quality and balance for the pilot.
    Cold Stell have a fine product, BUT WHY two miles out from the grip, before we have something to cut our bushcraft with ????!!! I won't have my finger in front of the vety grip, holding at steel doing my calypso out there, and if it was a sharpe blade to the grip knife, i personal had a order for one long ago, and it will be maybe my main knife with a Mora black bushcraft next to in the pack, cause of it's very fine work out there!
    The Mora can't split the huge work out there, but it suddently can do the fine splitting instead and actually buchcraft work bettet than maybe the best knife else, and that's is maybe the real survival, that can save you, or make you work a lot more effective and acurate.
    Therefore ColdSteel must make a new version, or it's ,, NO GO ! Sad cause it maybe the better blade right !

    For me the biggest turn off on SRK is the big ricasso area, don't like choils or big ricasso like on SRK so i would go with Fallkniven.

    Folders are nice and convenient. But nothing looks cooler than a Ka-bar Heavy Bowie knife strapped to your backpack. I think I got a good knife. My Ka-bar Bowie rules this game. what can I say? Don't get one of those leather handle ones, less you plan to never go out in the rain with it on.
    Still, for a edc this got me thinking. Like I said or my convictions, "Nothing looks cooler." You see the way he cut that 2x4? I don't know what he's saying, "that stainless steel is better than High carbon steel now?"
