My brother and I used to put speakers on the window ledge of an old home and play their 1st album back in 1959 or so. Had all their records. Funny that Nokie (and myself) ended up playing fingerstyle. And that's where the instrument started over 500 years ago with fingerstyle lute.
Awesome to watch Nokie on stage, he will definitely be missed. I saw him with the Ventures for the first time at the Birchmere back in 2012. I got to meet him after the show and he signed an album and a hat for me as well as Don Wilson, Bob Spalding and Leon Taylor. I was also lucky to see a few years later with the Ventures. He helped create a sound that will never die, the Surf Instrumental!!! RIP Nokie, you will never be forgotten and your music will keep inspiring musicians for a long long time! Thank You!
So Fun!!! My friends dad gave me my 1st Cassette tape ever as a kid in 1968/1969 when he heard I had a brand new cassette tape player, but NO cassettes! It had Hawaii 5-0, Classical Gas (still my favorite version!), and other songs! This brings back warm memories!
I grew up about a block from the Redondo pier, and I eventually moved to Eugene, Oregon, and was able to meet Nokie several times. He had a place out west of Eugene and he would throw a concert once a year there. So, this is bringing back memories of both those days-
I started playing guitar about the time the Ventures came along. Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, and Mel Taylor were the greatest. The only thing really missing from this video is that "Twang" from the Fender guitars they played in the old days, along with the use of the whammy bars.

L Ps and 8-tracks …LoL….and a book of matches …LoL…😂😂
They nailed the gear line up. Mosrites through Fender Showman amps, and a Gretch round badge kit! Nice!
What a treat. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Maximum Respect ~ Loo Wood ツ Guitar Hacker 🙏

Ótimo vídeo congratulações
very simple in appearance, humble, but guitar wizard, a dean of guitarists
super
No disrespect to Dick Dale, but Nokie is the true king of surf guitar.
Also no respect to Dick but he was kinda a one trick pony. The Ventures had way more depth and style.
The world is missing you a lot, Nokie ....
Super….. we lost a great one , …the backup and did excellent ….👍🏿👍🏿🌹
Show gostei muito Hawaii 5-0 ótima lembrança parabéns
Luarbiasa....Hebat..
We're just teenagers and the whole world of ours changed because we started listening VENTURES.

Nokie never really played Fenders. Don did at times, but mostly they used Mosrites.
nookie could play the way roy orbison could sing effortlrssly great rip both of you
Yay Nokie!
Rest in peace Nokie 🙏
Remember them Heard them again in 2025.
Only Nokie can make a cover of house of the rising sun killer
Is that Deke Dickerson on the left???
