Assuming that this is a live performance, the skill level of the two drummers is absolutely amazing. As fast as they are playing, the are staying absolutely synchronized with each drum stroke distinct rather than overlapping. That's precision on a grand scale.
How cool, Jeff Baxter…YEAH! My fav group when I was a kid… I was born in 56’….. My first 12 albums included 9 Ventures albums….One of the reasons I became a guitar player….Love these guys!

This NYC show was videoed in 1983 (The Ventures' 24th Anniversary), but it took 6 more years for the producers/owners to find a distributor/buyer (Toshiba EMI Japan). By 1989, it WAS the group's 30th Anniversary, thus the title of the Laserdisc, DVD, and VHS tape cassette.
Sadly none of them are with us any more. What a privilege it was to had this group of guys on the stages for decades. Now we only have their memories. Rest in peace Don, Nokia, Mel and Bob.. We surely miss you all.. ❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢

The original hit version of the song (by the Surfaris) was done with just one drummer -- and he was a teenager. I knew lots of CA guitar based & surf bands as a teenager in the 60s and almost all of them learned from listening and learning tunes recorded by the Ventures. Ironic that a Tacoma WA group helped mold the southern California sound.
I’m a multi medium artist/writer/poet/musician and singer and I play loads if different instruments but purcussion and drums I really love and also make and love many different genres both instrumental and I always look for different beats for my purcussion and drums even for my digital music. I had never seen this and although I recognise most of the songs I gotta be honestv I’d never heard of The Ventures I was going through a top 100 1962 songs list and making playlists and came across a songn and decided to check iout the song and a few videos later ..,. here we are.;…. I live this… and I appreciate that at the time this was truly different… still is! love the drum s all the way through and some nawesome skills in this lot. 10/10 I’m a fan

The other drummer looks like a young Mighty Max Weinberg. Actually could be cuz that’s definitely Skunk Baxter. The Ventures influenced some of the best musicians of our generation. I’ll take nothing away from the Big 4 cuz we know what they did to the world of music. Shit that’s Chris Spedding F me unless you heard of Chris from the 70’s you’d be asking who’s that guy? I’ve seen some shows where there’s 1000 drummers playing the same song and I’ve seen a 1000 guitars playing the same tune. There so many musicians that were influenced by the Ventures that they should have a set played by all the 1000-10000 musicians who ever played a Ventures lick in their beginnings.
