@@Gotwoh3ll Obviously it is a symptom of people not caring for or about one another. They care more about their religions, possessions, and status than about their fellow human beings and that is quite a statement about how misguided their values are. 99% of folks wouldn't. But it only takes 1 person to call the cops and if you've been homeless a while or stealth camping frequently, ya gotta be careful.
If you knew the town of Camrose you’d know it’s a small uptight little town with its own police force with nothing to do. Chances he spent the night in jail are pretty high
There's a fine line between camping and being homeless. There is also a fine line between tailgating and drinking beer in a parking lot or behind a sign. You walk a fine line.
I looked behind my hometown's welcome sign once. No joke, there was a homeless guy taking a dump while another one had his pants completely down while he took a piss. I'll just look at the front of the sign from now on.
The sign info helped me to locate on google maps exactly where you were. In fact your pictures were included. Tried this trick before with little success. The background lights (cars, house and others) would help protect you. If I looked out the window of my house and saw one of your lights, I would just think it was one of the aforementioned lights. I sure as hell am not going to cross fast moving highway in the dark to investigate. Love your UA-cam posts.

Here in Washington there is a lot of homeless that hunker down wherever they can. Most people in general won't even give a second glance, some will judge and keep moving, few will offer conversation, fewer still offer money or food. It's a tough life for them, living in constant fear as you felt seeing that quad. We must be grateful for what we have. Thank you. Keep doing what you do!

Your dry humor is unmatched. Thank you sooooo much for being a positive role model. Please don't stop. People really appreciate and love your great content.
I mean...I've been homeless without a car. Just a backpack. One thing I highly recommend is a storage unit that's centrally located within the area that you'll be tramping around in. It makes things so much more convenient. No point lugging more stuff than you need all day...a stop at the storage unit in the morning to drop off the sleeping bag (and tent if it was a rainy night), pick up some fresh clothes, etc. Stop by again before they close to grab the sleeping bag, etc. Stuff gets cumbersome lugging it around all day.
The best system is grabbing your gear at night from the storage unit...sleeping bag, tent/tarp, bug spray, flashlight, soap, toothbrush, fresh clothes, etc. Then find a place to sleep thats not too far from fresh water, but far enough to avoid the bugs that come with it. In the morning hike to the water source and wash up, put on fresh clothes, then hike to storage and dump everything off until evening. If you're in an urban environment where there are a lot of other homeless people, chances are most businesses and the general public can be kind of intolerant towards smelly, sweaty people lugging backpacks...and many stores and restaurants dont allow backpacks because of the theft associated with homelessness. With a storage unit you avoid all of this, and just blend in like a regular person. Believe me, it sucks being treated like a homeless person.
I made a bike rv trailer for pedal camping and to help with stealth I put foam on the outside and sculpted it with knife and sandpaper and painted it to look like a boulder. It works pretty good. I usually set it near trees or bushes and lay my bicycle behind it. I haven't been caught yet
Hotel worker: and here are the keys to your room Steve. Steve: “Oh I won’t be needing those, I’m stealth camping behind a sign tonight but I’ll see you in the morning for the complimentary breakfast” 🤣🤣 you’re amazing Steve
True, especially as still. But given how lit the sign itself is, could a position away to the side and hidden, but benefitting from that light to a degree be considered?
Little trick I learned in the Marines, use a red lens on the flashlight when you do not want others to see the light. The red light is difficult to be detected by the human eye
That's also why amateur astronomers use red light flashlights. The red light doesn't mess with your night vision when you are trying to see as much as you can through a telescope.
@@iiExiiLeD We use three types of receptors for vision with our eyes─cones (three different types of cones, one for each color: RGB), rods and intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells. Cones give us our day-time vision, while during the day, the rods are over-saturated and do nothing. But at night, over a period of about 15-20 minutes the rods slowly de-saturate from blindness during the day, eventually giving us our low-light vision. The reason a dim red light is harder to see at night is because when everything else is dark, we're still only using the rods to see, and red light is the most difficult light wavelength to make out when everything else is dark (remember, in the dark, we're essentially colorblind, because there's no light to give things color) and red, as a light source itself, is the most difficult to make out when everything else is dark (especially over long distances) During the day, or when we're driving with headlights, street lights and ambient city light, we're still using our cones (daytime receptors) to see, and our cones see red light much more easily than they would if we were used to using our night vision. www.quora.com/Which-color-of-light-is-hardest-to-see-at-night-from-a-distance

Me too! The river episode for sure
You're the only guy I know who gets a hotel room so he could sleep outside behind a sign. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give that a thumbs up with a letter grade of 5 stars.
this channel is utterly incredible. Apparently people named Steve have this ability to turn things that should be boring into something that's cathartic and awesome to watch. You and my boy Steve1989 are gods of making relaxing UA-cam videos. No idea how I stumbled upon this channel, but I'm glad the recommendation algorithm led me here.

I live in Olympia and most of those people chose that life
@@ConquerCollin from Tacoma: Yes, some are drug addicts. But many, including the addicts, are battling mental illness and/or have some form of PTSD. Regardless, even if they did "choose" their situation, that doesn't mean you shouldn't have sympathy for or empathize with them. Pathetic mindset.

From now on I shall be referring to homeless people as stealth campers.
Lmao that’s what I was thinking too
In England they say "rough sleepers"
LMAOO that’s kinda rude I don’t even think he’s homeless
Not The Crazy Ones
I live downtown in a large city. Ain't nothing "stealth" about how these hobos camp. They will pass out drunk in the middle of the sidewalk and then get mad you have to step over them.
Top tip wear a high vis vest when you step out no one questions anyone in a highvis you could just be working on the sign :)
Apparently carrying a latter would have the same effect
With a tent??? I don't think so

@@campingwithsteve Keep Trucking
The comedic timing on the "pretend film to sneak" maneuver was on point!
Strange, I find myself scoping out places I would “camp” if I became homeless. Steve, You RULE!!
I've been homeless.
Most of these places wouldn't work very well.
Thanks for reading.

Hell yeah Steve!
Yeah, I was wondering about why no red light for something like this?
Why do they make cars have red lights then lol makes no sense
@@iiExiiLeD We use three types of receptors for vision with our eyes─cones (three different types of cones, one for each color: RGB), rods and intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells. Cones give us our day-time vision, while during the day, the rods are over-saturated and do nothing. But at night, over a period of about 15-20 minutes the rods slowly de-saturate from blindness during the day, eventually giving us our low-light vision. The reason a dim red light is harder to see at night is because when everything else is dark, we're still only using the rods to see, and red light is the most difficult light wavelength to make out when everything else is dark (remember, in the dark, we're essentially colorblind, because there's no light to give things color) and red, as a light source itself, is the most difficult to make out when everything else is dark (especially over long distances)
During the day, or when we're driving with headlights, street lights and ambient city light, we're still using our cones (daytime receptors) to see, and our cones see red light much more easily than they would if we were used to using our night vision.
www.quora.com/Which-color-of-light-is-hardest-to-see-at-night-from-a-distance
Yep. Amateur astronomer here. White light is your enemy while observing the night sky.
Why is the camping gear so brightly colored? So Search And Rescue teams can find your hypo-thermic corpse easier.
Yep
