Very cool!! I learned to do this over thirty years ago. Couple of places in music, like Sleigh Ride and Grand Russian Fantasia, where it helped out. My main trumpet teacher, John J. Haynie, was never impressed with the technique, and could play forever in one breath! You can actually tongue or articulate once you become really good at circular breathing. And at about that time, instead of puffing out your cheeks, you actually drop the back part of your throat. And, you’ll get to where you don’t have to rush the “in” breath. It becomes more natural. Once, at work, I annoyed everyone in the shop by playing an F to G trill on clarinet for twenty minutes. That was fun. One more thing. Back to the words of my teacher. Circular breathing shouldn’t take the place of learning regular breath control. One time in a lesson, I grabbed a quick circular breath in Grand Russian. Haynie looked at me like wtf, and then, well into his SEVENTIES at the time, picked his horn up and played the same passage of music TWICE in one breath!! It was humbling. Lol
Ah man, taking me back to your first video I ever watched. Back then it was the clearest example of circular breathing I could find on youtube. This one is even better.
Dude, Intermezzo from Carmen is one of the hardest but simplest orch. excerpts ever, both for clarinet and flute!
Very cool!!
