One of the best pg videos in cape town. Just came back from spending a month there. Was staying in Norfolk house right in front of landing, would see PGs land all day. Working on getting my licence, hopefully next time I am there I'll have my gear and licence. Would be so amazing if I could do a similar flight!
I saw from a Facebook post from Barry Pederson that you are back in Cape Town. I hope that is the case. Looking forwards to more videos from you. I am moving back at the end of 2025.
@@GrantonTheFly I have since qualified and hold a pilot rating so hoping to be able to fly myself. Thanks for the offer. Perhaps I can convince my wife to go tandem. oh, I forgot to mention. This exact video inspired me to take up the sport at age 56.
@@GrantonTheFly I'm from Cape Town currently living in the UK. I am returning to Cape Town next year. I have a place in Bloubergstrand and have been to the Glen club a couple of times for their bring & braai. I will deffo see you there sometime as I am coming out in February.
It just takes time. Do something paragliding related everyday...fly if you can, if not ground handle, if you can't do that read about flying. Dedicate yourself and have fun, the rest will fall into place...✌
Epic man. Would you be keen to do a Q&A paravlog sometime? I'd like to know how you got into the sport, where you got your training and equipment and any other info that might be useful for a wannabe paraglider.
fantastic flight! I'm flying out next week with my gear and can't wait! would be great to get the lowdown if possible but so far I'm struggling to find much info for solo pilots, It's all drowned out by the tandem companies. would love to come flying with you guys and get the local intel! DM me if possible!
Hi Laurence, I'm not there right now but get in touch with Barry at Birdmen.co.za - he'll have all the info you need. Enjoy your time, there's so much great flying to be had in Cape Town:)
amazing. you've got yourserlf the 50th subscriber! :D I'm planning a paratrip and I'm including Cape Town in the list. If you don't mind I have a few questions: 1) How easy is it to access the launch site (assuming you don't have a car locally, being a tourist)? 2) Is there an active flying community? 3) What time of the year has the best conditions?
Howzit +Gian Carlo Martinelli :) 1) Uber :) But there are lots of places to fly around Cape Town, not just lion's head. I offer guided tours if you're interested. 2) Yes 3) We have good conditions year round (if it's not raining in winter) but November is probably our best month (spring here). It also depends on the type of flying you want to do.

Awesome video. My home - I went to Sea Point Boys High , which is shown several times but quite prominently just before you land.
You should come Tandem with me and you can see it from above for yourself

@theflyinggauntlet wow, makes me very happy and inspired to hear. Are you based in Cape Town? If so, please say hi when we inevitably cross paths.

Grant Smith i appreciate the responses! I'll get in touch if I end up in SA
+Gian Carlo Martinelli cool bud, enjoy whatever you decide!
You just got your 18th sub :D
The Capacitor yeeehaa a! 🤣👊
Great video and good flight, next time clean your lens. It was a bit cloudy.
That was caused by condensation at altitude. I had to drill holes in the waterproof case to stop that happening
What was the site called that you launched from? Thanks for posting!
Howzit :) we launched from Signal hill...then flew onto Lion's Head and after that the 12 Apostles.
❤
Sounds like r2d2 came with!
Huh? 😅
The instrument that informs beeps for lift!
Oh right, gotcha! The vario, a paraglider's best friend
Awesome video!!! Will surely try this out! Do check out our vlog @twenty three on bree.
