    Great video, need to do this on my VW golf mk5, tyres starting to bald on the inner tread, I know it's the toe and camber bolts that have failed. So new one's on both sides and some reference to your video will do the job for me.
    Thanks! 👍

    Im sure it’ll go unheard, but is this method applicable to the 00-05 4motion systems? Im assuming so as the Quattros are the same drive systems? I have an 04 with bad rear camber

    where did you get the angle checking tool that attaches to the rotor as quattro needs a -1 degree offset or the outside of tire will wear down faster than the inside at 0 degrees that tool looks excellent as you take a reading "before" raising the wheel then adjust the wheel by the amount required after you jack it up , most alloys allow you to attach to rotor with wheel still on any info on the magnetic camber angle spirit level would be great

      @calm4477 2 роки тому

      You can get them on eBay, just got one as my quattro is wearing the outside edge of the tyre.

      I use a Giant Viking digital angle guage or a Japanese app I found online. The most accurate measurement is going to be by using a straightedge across your wheel edges with the guage placed on the straightedge centered over the hub. Measuring at the rotor will give inaccurate measurements. I have an '08 A4 Quattro S-Line, and adjust my rear camber to -2 degrees.

    • @KingZoneOne
      @KingZoneOne 2 роки тому +2

      Also check your toe settings, and set them AFTER your camber. Changing camber alters toe, and toe wears your edges more/faster than camber.

    • @Dtp2296
      @Dtp2296 Рік тому

      Camber doesn't affect wear unless it's really excessive, toe causes wear as the wheel is literally being scrubbed as its not pounting exactly forward. Camber allows for maximum grip whilst the car is leaned over during cornering

    I'm not sure this method is very accurate. Not all vehicles have 0 deg camber. Most actually have 1-2deg negative offset in the back. Setting it this way does not guarantee that it is actually at 0 and will affect the behavior of the car. Also, rear camber and especially toe have a huuuuge effect on vehicle pull. In my opinion, the best way to do this is to just get a 4 wheel alignment. Shortcuts don't quite work well.

    • @user-cg8cp2yl9n
      @user-cg8cp2yl9n 4 роки тому +1

      Audi VW rear camber can change with ride height too, there is even a difference with empty / full fuel load.
      I would definitely go to a garage with 4 wheel alignment equipment, you’ll probably save your expense in reduced tyre wear and even improved fuel economy.

    I use a digital guage, and the measurement should be taken either centered at the hub if it's flat, or across the wheel edges using a straightedge with the guage centered over the hub. Any measurements taken on the rotor will be inaccurate, as the rotor face is not the equidistant center of wheel rotation. Measuring from the top, bottom, front or rear of the rotor will give three different inaccurate measurements.

All of the shots are in the back of the car except for the very beginning shot where I remove the front wheel. In the shot you can clearly see the steering components. All of the camber adjustments are in the rear

    If the tires are on the ground when I adjust the camber, the tires will have to scrub against the floor when I pull in the camber. I was thinking of placing coasters under the tires so they could move in/out. Ideas welcome.

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  5 років тому +3

      I’ve heard some people put grease on the floor. Others put cookie sheets on the floor under the wheel. One method I found interesting was to take two pieces of floor linoleum squares and put salt between the two squares the salt would act as a kind of bearing to allow the tire to flow into position.

      I think that the sidewalls are flexible enough to allow for WHEEL alignment, then the tires will follow when the vehicle rolls

    • @livefree6878

      Typically the rear wheels are aligned straight. The tow in is in the front wheels. That way when you’re driving down the road the car will not veer left and right.
