buulaa1 These people are trying to make a scientific argument against climate change? Why shouldn't they be able to do this? Is their right to free speech not as valuable as everyone else's?
+Colin G Firstly, if you want to hear scientific info about climate change, look at any peer-reviewed climate science journal. You can access them using Google Scholar or at your local library/university. You'll find that climate change is real, and that it is caused by increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (i.e. human cause). Of course these protesters are angry and shouting over people and making noise. It's because they have no other means to express their message. They don't have billions of dollars of money behind them. In this forum the parties with the most money are the loudest and the most-powerful, hence the fossil fuel companies are running the show
+Colin G So it's ok to silence people with money, corruption and intimidation.. but it's not ok to protest? It didn't seem to me like they actually interrupted anyone's presentation. Well if a pro-racism or neo-nazi conference was happening in my neighbourhood I wouldn't be surprised if an angry bunch of loud objectors turned up and made a lot of noise. I admit it's probably not the most tactful way to get a message across, but it's not surprising and not totally unwarranted. If they were trying to silence a minority I would be concerned but those people are supported by big business and hence they have more influence over the climate than the scientific community, the politicians or any related parties.
Vice, you amateurs. You made the deniers seem rational and the ecologists seem like neurotic children. So very sloppy. Get a clue on how to frame and direct a message, please.
***** they're not. Not in a traditional sense. They are interfering with the subject they pretend to investigate. It's called gonzo journalism by some. And Vice are awful at it.
***** I have been doing it better for years now. Even when I have a hang over, even in my worst days, I have done a far better job than these low-standard hipster hacks. "You don't need wit or writing chops, you just need a Vice attitude". That's their hiring mantra.
If you sit in that Heartland conference room and have a diploma of any scientific branch two things should happen to you; first your diploma must be revoked second you must be send to jail for fraud and be punished greatly on the basis of spreading fallacious and malevolent information that dangers public health and safety!
Wanting to reduce CO_2 emissions, while hating nuclear energy. That's like being at an alcoholics anonymous meeting and saying that all alcohol free beverages are bad for your health.
"The companies that are driving climate pollution", while he rides around in a big car. Does irony not mean anything to these pseudo scientific scaremongers?
+arconte2100 Fusion or Fission? We have access to Fusion. No need to for fission and tragedies such as Chernobyl & the current issues facing Japan/Tepco
Any discussion of reversing climate change that begins by throwing in nuclear with oil and coal is not a rational debate I want to take part in. The speaker made his presentation as irrelevant to real change as the COP21 debates that he's criticizing.
Climate change? I thought there was hope, the real issues are pollution, deforestation, animal habitat loss and withering natural resources such as clean water and damage to food systems from GM foods and crazy use of antibiotics in large scale food production. It's the weather it's always going to change, just like the universe it's a harsh world. Mother Nature can't be tamed. I expected the greedy corporations to use climate change fear as a tool. The real issues have to sorted using climate change is only hurting the issue. The problem is corporations are using countries with no environmental policies to save on money they would otherwise spend on controlling the processed waste. Until we get corporations out of local and geo politics they will continue to destroy our world for profit. We need to take back the control of governments back to the people from these corporations. The U.S., UN and EU is run by these crooks that bankrupt countries for their benefit.
The people making these decisions for our future are old people. In the future they will be dead and we will be the ones reaping the effects of their mess.
I would have loved to yell statistics on how the heartland institute is funded, segments of the IPCC report, and how if they have children they are leaving them a planet that has sisgnificantly less wildlife because of the actions their parents took.
Arrest these corporatists, jail them, nationalize their compagnies to help researching a way out of the environnement problems. That should naturaly eliminate the lobby problem and incentivise the ones who were not nationalized to take the good path.
Wait. Are you preaching to me about how I have to change to my life in an unprecedented manner from inside a moving car!? Why not from your Agenda 21-approved bicycles or your 10x30 ft apartment?
Environmentalist logic: -Criticise climate change deniers as being anti-science and backwards. -Criticise the one method of power generation that can reliably power the world with 0 CO2 emissions (nuclear power), even after its huge advantages have been scientifically proven. How very rational.
It's rather hilarious and ironic in a nihilistic way that the Green Peace guy at 8:33 has to read off his smart phone to deliver his blow at the oil people who are giving scripted answers.
+Camera Shot He said "No it's called ... permanent debate." The activist is essentially implying that the Heartland Institute is not interested in looking at the facts as it relates to anthropogenic global warming. Preferring instead to obfuscate the truth by misinforming the public into believing that climate science is "up for debate." The Republican policy makers in Washington D.C who currently control the House of Representatives and Senate, and actually have the ability to address climate change in a meaningful way though the legislative process, are steady getting their information (talking points) from these fossil fuel industry funded clowns.
VICE News finds out why both climate change deniers and Greenpeace are unhappy with the COP21 conference in Paris. Watch "Toxic Tours and Civil Disobedience: COP21 - Climate Emergency (Dispatch 3)" - bit.ly/1XWkOsD
Is it me or was the main argument money... I heard about Money and people countries of color and people with out recourse who can't profit from energy..... I'm confused.
Another thing if we had a ice age 20,000 years ago. And Manhattan was under a glacier. How can global warming be a human cause... We only started a 100 years ago
I feel like one day Vice will disable the comments. If that happens maybe we can send all the right wingers to the Young Turks channel, and watch them battle it out.
+Isaac Schmitt The only revolution that could work is the one where nobody takes power, but the very fabric of society is changed. Hierarchies are what create most of this world's suffering.
There is one country that has almost completely reduced their carbon footprint, and they are now green af. I think the place is called Syria? Green as fuck I tell ya.
all those men in suits look like they sold their souls
*+Damian McGill* Agreed, what a bunch of phonies!
They look like Neighbours actors
Great coverage, thanks for keeping it real, Vice!
When your position in the argument is so weak that you have to literally yell over the opposition so that their argument can't be heard.
buulaa1 Welp, they obviously have a position. I'd love to hear it, if only the protesters would let me.
buulaa1

I'm not debating climate change. I'm debating the concept of yelling over people who disagree with you.

+S Games Nuclear is the answer! Then hopefully fusion will work. It's always ten years away.
That was 97% embarrassing.
"The companies that are driving climate pollution", while he rides around in a big car.
Does irony not mean anything to these pseudo scientific scaremongers?
Grt video Vice,grt journalism..
Was that the VICE reporter herself repeating the thoroughly debunked 97% consensus claim? How objective of her.
Getting support from the big oil companies is like asking asking for a child molester's advice for on how to raise your kids.
Haha. Close
If greenpeace stopped with the hippie psudoscience bs and started loving nuclear power I would support them in an instant.
+arconte2100 Fusion or Fission? We have access to Fusion. No need to for fission and tragedies such as Chernobyl & the current issues facing Japan/Tepco
It's weird to me that they are doing interviews in travelling gas powered cars.
To those who are watching do not go down the comment section. It is literally filled cancer.
Right on mate! Some sad reading down here.
Glad I Stopped DONATING money to Greenpeace

Greenpeace simply won't talk about the meat industry.
I never knew weather was such serious business.
They don't go to your press conference, so why are you going to theirs, just mind your own business, let people be stupide if they want?
Thank you Vice

Han Solo dies in the new Star Wars movie.
So the head of Greenpeace uses a car. Hmm... Shouldn't he cycle to his next talk instead? Or at the very least take bus or train?
