Owned 2 Camaro SS's before my 718GTS. VERY different drive. I consider the Porsche a very significant upgrade; to include price!

Did not sound too bad in this video, but not the old flat six howl.

What do you think of this vs the GT350R for feel?

So I just went from a GT350 to a Cayman 718 GTS and the first thing I noticed was the steering feel is better for me personally in the GT350. Its also felt more planted in the curves and definitely faster in the straights. Also it could brake better. But...on the backroads the Cayman is crazy fun and the fastest little rocket I've been in. The size of the car makes it more enjoyable too as you can use more of the lane. I think with a little work the GTS could be better. I'll be tracking mine for the first time in November at VIR and the first thing I'm doing is dropping it and getting it better rubber and brakes pads. Tunes are available and owners are able to get anywhere to 400 to 450 hp and breaking the hearts of GT3 owners. Also the PDK is incredible, but that 6 speed in the GT350 was perfect and I miss it. My issue and concern with owning the GT350 was Ford and them denying warranty work. The oil consumption and engine failure issues are overhyped just FYI, but it was a risk I just didn't want to take. These Porsche Caymans are stupid reliable. In fact my bud as the GT4 CS and has already put on 34,000 track miles and not 1 single issue

Wil_Leighton I ended up buying a 2019 GT350 base with handling package. It is a good car overall. Mine has some issues I think once I get that done and proper alignment it will be even more fun. My main issue is quality with Ford but the price (kinda) reflects that. My car has 7,000 miles on it and already has rattles, squeaks, vibrations all over the place. My 2018 PP2 mustang was the exact same way. Constant little annoying issues just bombarding you the whole time you own it. I think I’d really enjoy the size and weight of the Cayman but have never driven one.

@@wil_leighton1618 good points on the GT350s quality issues. These cars are apples to oranges though. The Shelby is big car that shrinks the faster you go but at the end of the day is a big car. It is more visceral in almost every way with manual, and the great engine and exhaust note that you don’t get in this GTS. The GTS is such a well built car, and offers its own unique great experience on track (and road). Even with work, it won’t however break any hearts of GT3 owners. The GT3 is a truly amazing driving experience (noise, 9K redline, rear engine driving dynamics) that you just don’t get from any Cayman, including the new GT4 4.0.

The 19 camaro ss 1le beat it on this track I'm surprised it got a hair faster time at 2:15

Not surprising at all really. SS had stickier tires, almost 100hp more and loads more torque. The big difference between the Cayman GTS and the SS, though, based off my experience with an SS (17 SS ILE previous owner), it didn't do well with multiple laps on a track. It overheated many times, and the brake fade was atrocious. The GTS, which I have spent a great deal of time in won't overheat. If you have PCCBs on it, you'll never have brake fade. You pay for what you get, though, most of the time.

@@JoeJacksonGT3 also 718 has a lot less weight to carry around.. great analysis. if only porsche gave it 3.0T engine..

@@vikd4292 The whole point of the Cayman/Boxster is being lightweight. Besides it’s difficult to package larger engines in the smaller bay of the 718

Probably why they have to use that Boxer engine. Incredible power per CI and perfect balance with a light car.
