Why u r against cgi
In the case of small productions it is cheaper and a very good option if you can pull it off.
For a hollywood film its different. They dont save that much money if they do it in cg. Depending on the subject its even more expensive. There is a whole team of artists to pay for vfx just like there is for a practical model and thats the expensive bit (if youre talking big budget movies). So no thats not what george lucas did. Its not like "hey we already have a vfx company working on this film so were just gonna let them do more and pay the same." Cgi in big movies is öretty expensive

man thank you for this tutorial on how to do the things shown in the video, I have been recently hired by Mr. Star Wars to make star wars episode vii 2 with all of the valuable knowledge I have gained from this great video appropriately labeled as a tutorial.

how is this a "tutorial" its a showreel NOT a tutorial, a tutrorial should show/tell the viewer how to do the thing, not show what was done.
+B Sue I agree up to an extent, it is not a tutorial as much as a "this is how we did it". An advanced "tute" with an understanding as to how all the elements are put together to composite a special effects scene. Unless you are an experienced artist, you won't get much out of it, other than the idea it is way above an average artists abilities without a group size professional effort.

Tutorials show you step by step, with explanation. Even for "advanced" users.
I could release tons of material from Nick wth comp flows, but that wouldn't really be a tutorial.

Great job! You really helped answer two things for me. 1) how to place a 3d character somewhere that there isn't obvious objects to track, like in a field. The little stands with orange balls look like they work great for a motion track. 2) I wasn't sure if using a panorama still for long panning shots would work, but it looks great. I'll have to check out some of your recent work.

This video helps a lot and definitely doesn't need to have any thing changed and it's perfectly described as a tutorial and I now know how to make videos just like this.

Can you please make a detailed tutorial on animating and adding the stormtroopers in the scene?
You can find free 3d Stormtroopers online, then rig them in Mixamo, export to FBX and open it up in C4D or Unity. I use the 3d camera tracker in After Effects for match moving.
What do you mean export to fbx? chances are a 3d stormtrooper model is gonna be and obj and if you rig it in mixamo then it wont even be able to show textures and you can't just "export to FBX"..

how did you make the pano parts? I don't really understand the bits where you pieced a bunch of pictures together to get a smooth pano.

if you are just starting out and didn't understand this video and claim it wasn't a tutorial. go check out video copilot, the old freddiew (channel name changed so google freddiew and freddiew2), corridor-digital, and film riot. You can learn the basics there then come back to this video and actually be able to understand and learn how these shots were performed.

Mocap + Endorphin is extremely powerful combination. I tried Endorphin several times but never could work with it. Something always went wrong) Not an easy software to use

yep, several times, I mean it simulates things not the way I expect. Sometimes I even can`t understand why does it do nothing=) Of course there are always right values and it will work the way I want, but all in all this software wasn`t my cup of tea at all. It`s not the instrument I feel myself comfortable with and not the one I can instantly use for smth. More like "Well, I have a spare weekend, what shall I do?" lol
NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. while i was looking around in endorphin so maybe i could find errors like you but then i just figured out i have the learning edition so cannot export animations i make, so i guess this puts me in the same crowd as you lol also they stopped selling the regular version so i cant get it even if i wanted to, any chance you have the files of the full version lol
