Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a 1974 American crime film written and directed by Michael Cimino and starring Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy, and Geoffrey Lewis.
The film was shot in 47 days from July to September 1973.
It was filmed in Fort Benton, Wolf Creek, Great Falls, and Hobson. St. John's Lutheran Church in Hobson was used for the opening scene.
Eastwood did not like to do any more than three takes on any given shot, according to co-star Bridges. "I would always go to Mike and say 'I think I can do one more. I got an idea.' And Mike would say 'I gotta ask Clint.' Clint would say, 'Give the kid a shot.'"[12] Charles Okun, first assistant director on Thunderbolt, added, "Clint was the only guy that ever said 'no'. Michael said 'OK, let's go for another take.' It was take four, Clint would say 'No we got enough. We got it.' [...] And if [Cimino] took too long to get it ready, [Clint] would say, 'It's good, let's go.'"

Oui...reviens !!!
One of the best films ever made
My parents were living at Great Falls, Montana at the time of the film and Mom could remember all the excitement that Clint Eastwood was in Great Falls. :)
It is amazing how little has changed.
1973. Great Year. Did You Get To See Him.
Wasn't born yet. I'm not sure if they did or not. I know I saw Kevin Costner when he was filming yellowstone in Mossoula. I waved at him and he waved back.
I had the great fortune of bumping into Jeff Bridges in 2004 in Central Park while visiting New York.He was a lovely guy and spent at least 20 minutes of his time speaking to me and my brother as he was interested in the part of the UK we were from.I happened to ask about Thunderbolt and Lightfoot as it was one of my favorites, and he said he wasn't happy with the ending at first as he didn't want to die because he wanted to do a sequel but Clint didn't.Such a nice man.
I've always thought a thunderbolt and light foot 2! Would of been a good idea if Bridges didn't die in the 1st one!
Damn! Well, one of the first things that Clint has done that it didn't like.
Interesting insight from Bridges. Well Clint did do Bridges of Madison County.
My God. Nothing has changed. I first saw the movie in about 1979 when I was 14. I am now 54, and nothing has changed.
I love how you "inject" yourself into the scenes! It's as if you are traveling through space and time!!! So, cool!!!!
THE BEST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.THE MEMORY OF IT WILL STAY WITH ME FOR EVER
Jeff Bridges says to Red “ I can read you loud and clear”. Red > “ YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT “ !!!!!
Love that line 😆 Ending is sad though 😔
This was one of the best side-by-side scene compilations I've seen. Great work.
Totally agree.
Absolutely brilliant. Great job you have done here. RIP George Kennedy.
Kind of refreshing to see these two young again. Jeff Bridges turned out to me a remarkable actor. Montana is a beautiful filming location. Your work on these is incredible Herve.
A movie that was always dear to my heart.
Fantastic well done. Thunderbolt and lightfoot is one of my all time favourite movies. Great to see this.
This is my favourite movie ever and Herve has now made it even better with this insightful film..So cleverly done , I will be watching this again and again..SUPERB!!!
One of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies, Thanks for making this video.
What an absolutely charming video....Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a truly great motion picture.
I always loved this movie. My pop took me in 1974 when i was 11. The lady at the glass door was my first onscreen bush sighting. I told all my friends about her
Couldn't have said it better...."Life is too short not to live your dreams" Thanks Herve
Another of my favorites of the 1970s. Thanks a million Herve!
Awesome video. Amazing how little the locations have changed, except for the church and old school house being gone. Even the bus station is still there!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I’m from Great Falls and know all these locations very well. My grandfather owns the large Cowboy sign at the beginning of the movie. I joined the military at 18 so even through progress, this Is how I remember home. Made my day watching this…Thank You
I love this movie and I'm a fan of all of the actors, especially Clint Eastwood. I've followed his career for over 40 years. But remember, these characters were criminals. Movies that glorified lawbreakers were big in the early '70s and that list is long. They usually ended with us feeling gratified that they got away with it, or the not-so-bad criminals stuck it to the really bad ones, or in this case, we feel sorry that one or more got hurt or killed while breaking the law.
On a separate note, what you did here is brilliant and, as a producer myself, I applaud your editing skills.
Incredible, such a fantastic job. I have always loved this movie. Now I want to go to Montana and have the same experience you did!
Really amazing. I can't believe you can locate these places and re-frame them with your camera.
------If you are reading this, I just want to say that your narrations add a lot to the videos and I hope you continue that.
Hi Mr mercury 🇬🇧🙋♂️

Herve,I take my hat off to you, a true fan if ever there is one. Your work on the Eastwood films are a joy to watch. Tres Magnifique !
Wow! You did an excellent job on this. Amazing how so many of the locals were still much the same after decades! I loved the film and i salute you for this trip down memory lane!
This is my favorite movie. Thank you very much Herve for taking the time to do this !!
This is so incredibly awesome, I've always loved this movie (saw it for the first (of MANY) time in the theater as a very young kid) and loved the scenery depicted within it, THANK YOU for doing this. :-)
Well done! One of Eastwood's most underrated movies.
You are the man!
Just like these guys, you've reminded me of what my heart still calls out for - To live everyday with passion no matter what.
Thank You!
I took my mother to see this movie. Mom really enjoyed it. She felt really sad for the character whom Beau Bridges portrayed. Thank you for your marvelous and very creative work.
I grew up in India watching these movies as a kid. Appreciate the effort you put into this. Don't stop....just keep going. I can't thank you enough.
Great work on this video! Saw the movie as a 15 year old - was & still is my very fave movie! Just love the scenery in Montana!
GREAT JOB!!! one of my fav movies of all time, was 17 when it came out and saw it 2 times in 2 weeks.
Thank you so much Herve for researching these locations and for so perfectly recreating each of them. On this trip you represented so many others who'd like to do it but never will.
love that the 'Clint'' tree is still there. The flies were ravenous when I went. Thanks for your videos, wherever you are!
Very Good, Herve , very Good, one of my favorite movies since I was a kid in the 1970's myself !! I've actually traveled myself all over those parts as a Trucker for 23 years, I seen a lot in those 23 years driving.
Herve Attia does some truly excellent video work and we're very fortunate to have him in the USA showing us where these great films were made then and now. I've always loved this film but hated the ending because it's just plain sad. However, Herve is a real credit to the craft and I know I speak for all of us when I say we're all very grateful for all his hard work to recreate these wonderful shots :)
i hope u do come back and do more videos. your work has not only taken me back in time to my childhood but it's perfectly put together with precision. as one artist to another thank u.
Great movie !!! RIP George Kennedy 😞
Herve's are by far the best of the many filming locations videos. This one and the Bradbury Building are the best. Thank you and I am living my dreams working from home and not for THE MAN!
It's been 2 years since the last video. Your work is amazing. Please come back to UA-cam and make more awesome content.
This is facinating seeing the places where clint and jeff were filmed , this is one of my favourite clint eastwood movies. Your living the dream. I would visit these places too if only i could afford to :-(
Awesome. Thank you! My all time favorite movie from the 70's. The song was so fitting for the movie. I softened wondered about the exact locations because it's so beautiful. Love to visit there someday. Live your dream!
Fantastic work Herve, thanks for doing this, the Eastwood fans appreciate your work.
Hello!
I'm Japanese!
I'm very amazing(^^)
I like Thunderbolt and Lightfoot too!
Thank you for make nice movie!
Herve, thank you so much for posting this video of the filming locations of Thunderbolt & Lightfoot!! I'm 58 years of age and was almost 12 yrs old when this movie came out. No other movie on television got me more excited than this great film!! You did a great job on this. The split screen is the best way to show the film and current locations!! I would love to go there someday, but if I can't, I'll always have your fine video. Take care my friend and safe travels from South Central Texas!!
This is nothing short of brilliant. I've loved this movie since I was a kid. The wide-open spaces you see so often in 1970s American movies are a fundamental part of the cinema of that time, which unfortunately doesn't get its due. I can only imagine that it was an incredible amount of fun to travel around Montana to see these places. Bravo!
This was the first film it to my girlfriend Jan too been together ever since married 1979. Love this film
Love it! Never realized how awesome the scenery is for this movie. And now I want to watch the movie again after seeing this...
I Love what you did here, you're very dedicated! Just an outstanding job 👏🏼And yes, T and L was a fantastic movie!
Hi born and raised in Montana and lived in fort benton during the filming. My favorite movie. Great job.

Funny Clint says watch out for the dogshit but the dog statue isn't there. Another brilliant job . Thanks , one of my favourite youtube channels.
This is a tremendous video! This movie is one of my most favorites. I always wondered where the one-room schoolhouse was located and whether it was real. You are blessed to be able to have been standing at the exact locations where the movie was made. Thank you for your talents and determination to make this video. Stay safe and be well.
Adored to watch this film, both men amazing. It was so emotional to see Bridges slowly
passing away - on the film! He was fantastic. Brilliant film.
Thank you for a look back at filming locations for this movie
I think this is when I fell in love with Paul Williams voice..🥰

Keep doing what you're doing dude! Good stuff! By the way,..you're very right, it's true, "life is too short to not live your dreams!"
I don't give 👍 very often. But today you get one.
👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing. Well done! Nearly everything looks identical..even the tree positions on hills which is strange but awesome!
Herve, you are a genius!! you had an incredible idea. It could be an amazing program on tv!!! compliments!!!!
it is about the choices, and the actions, which brought this man to leave his city, his friends and relatives, and once an adult, he knows, that his return, would be hard and difficult, because the faces, the places the places of his memories have disappeared, nostalgia takes all the place with a sadness to no longer find this inoncence, This Movie, don't let you without a feeling, Two Great persons Clint & Jeff !! AMAZING
Intoxicating! BRAVO!

Well done Herve, this has to be the best video on UA-cam. My favourite movie of all time, I have always planned to visit Montana just to seek out the locations from the movie. If I never get the chance to go, i know you have brought it a little closer to me. Brilliant shooting, research and editing. Love seeing you in the shots too. 10/10.
Amazing work. I'm getting ready to go on vacation in Montana and I just watched Thunderbolt and Lightfoot last night to get in the mood. Thumbs up!
Back in 2006, I tried to find as many film locations as I could for the movie In the Heat of the Night. I also did interviews with people who were extras in the movie and published a book about it called Searching for Sparta.
I remember the 70s. Everything was better in the 70s. Life all together was better.
@Bobby Brady So true. Have you ever listened to the podcast "Red Pilled America"? If everyone listened to the episode titled "Ticking Time Bomb" many fewer would ever vote Dem again.
