Rescuing a flying-fox pup on the ground: this is Hickory Dickory

- Hickory Dickory Dock is an orphan male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was found in a backyard crawling around the grass and crying. The Member of Public (MOP) then noticed the mother bat in her yard; she thought the baby was a bird, and she freaked out when she realised it was a bat. She phoned for help, and stood behind her window while I rescued the little one and disposed of the mum's body. Mumbat had electrical burns, so I am on the watch out for burns in the little one. (fortunately none have showed up in a week)
I called him Hickory Dickory, because I could. The name came to me, in an afflatus, and it suits him.
I love survivors and this little guy is so ridiculously cute.
He has gone to his carer now, where he will be till creche.
When the hand raised babies are 3 months old, they go into a creche, where they join other orphans and form a group. At this stage they'd be separating from this batty mums and be becoming more independent in the colony. In creche, at this age, they learn batty etiquette and how to live in a batty society. They shrug off their human mums and want to be with the other batties. When they are emotionally and physically ready, and uninjured, and around 4-5 months old, they’re put into a release cage under a colony and they can integrate into the colony and fly out with the wild bats. If they can’t find enough food, they can always come back to the cage for a feed. Support feeding is put up on the outside of the cage for as long as they are coming back and eating it. When the colony flies out for winter, they have fully integrated and fly out with them. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
the way you speak to your sweet charges, just restores one's faith in the essential goodness of humanities. Bats, little bats, and wonderful women!
Sad to hear little Hickory Dickory cry for his mum and Rest In Peace Mom Bat. I love to see both of you ladies working your comforting magic with Hickory Dickory! He's a handsome blonde baby boy and best wishes to him on growing into a young, vibrant bat! That cracks me up, the captioning on here. Siri has her moments, but I have laughed myself silly reading the English captioning here on UA-cam. I will remember that "aperitif" does not mean "a pair of teeth"!😂❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇❤🦇
👍for the garden of teats/dummies by the window.
Meg when i starts to Watch a baby Bat crying alone or on its dead mum i feel so bad but when on the video i see you and Maggie i feel a sense of peace inside of me !!!! Thank you very very much and thank all the carers and rescuers!!!! Yesterday night i talked with a cyber friend Who has a Bat box out of her villa: wonderful!!! She said baby bats are so beautiful and so tiny!!!
I don't know English well, so I didn't understand everything, but I still love videos where You and Maggie talk, joke, laugh, feed babies, rock them to sleep and sing songs to them.
You don’t know English well?? You know English better than me and English is my first language.🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@dasiajb I thought you meant you were not a native English speaker. i guess I know English pretty well - I certainly don't speak other languages.
@@Megabattie I studied English a long time ago in high school. The rest are Google translators. That is why I write "better" than I understand it by ear. Fortunately, I'm learning all the time. My new favorite words are "meal", "milky coma", "nap", "scratching", "stretching" and "flaping".
@@dariafriedrich4 Some of what I say is quite colloquial. And some is batty language - milk coma, flappies, scratchies, groomies, head bobs and press-ups.
🙂
I appreciate how you treat the mums even in death. His little cries were sad but he seemed to know he was being rescued ❤
Meg probably just always smells of mom bats (this is a compliment)
Respect costs nothing, and takes no time or effort.
@@Megabattie so true
@@Megabattie Well said, Meg.
@@Megabattie If only everyone would realize that, it would be a nicer world.
He's beautiful, a baby bat prince. He has a temper. Love the little ears moving. Don't you ever kiss them.
No, I don't kiss them.
Father Johove bless y'all 🙏 y'all are doing great job taking care of this sweetie pies thank y'all
He’s listening to your heartbeat. And he knows he’s safe. 🥰❤️🦇
RIP mumma 💔 so glad these gorgeous orphans are surviving. 👍💞
What a sweet little cry... what a baby! Thank you for saving him... so glad a cat or bird didn't get to him first.
Sweetieeeee. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and another survivor. Yeahhhhh. Till now it looks good with the suevivors. That makes me happy ❤️❤️🦇😘😘😘.
I so love it when I get to see you women at home just being yourselves with the babies! Rescuing is only part of the story you two have to tell. More please!
Afflatus, word of the day: divine inspiration (not a fart, lol) though brain fart was an excellent guess! ~~~^..^
I learn so much from Meg, and not just about bats. This is a perfect example. With my sense of humor, farts were the first thing to come to mind! I had to look it up.
Not a fart. Just a divine wind.
@@LithiumSurfboard i thought about farts too!!!!! Sorry
Another Sweet little baby to care for, love and cuddle. RIP mum.
Poor little Hickory Dickory...those little cries were so pittiful . but he didnt know at the time he would have the wonderful , marvelous Meg and Maggie caring for him . he seems to have taken to Maggie so well.. as all the little ones do ...its so nice to have survivors now !! And you and Maggie are a hoot ! I loved to listening to the two of you talk and joke about farts... lol .. and Maggie reciting nursery rhymes and sometimes singing to the babies . That is always a treat .. i enjoy them as much as the babies i think !! 💕🦇💕
When you make each other laugh so hard you cry, that is the best kind of friendship
Poor little darling, thank God he has you two ladies, who care for him! Thank you both!! Stay safe!
I could for sure hang out with these two lovely ladies. Even if I was a bat. LOL
The videos are so much brighter compared to last year.
It is so lovely to see.
Yes, ut we did have survivors during baby season last year too, just not as many
Meg and Maggie need their own show!!!!
He's such a sweet heart and so is Maggie. 🦇❤️ Meg you're just being immature but I'm here for it. 😂😂😂😂 Blessings to you both and your work, from Scotland. 🙏🏴🌹
Beautiful forest of purple and green dummies in that backlit shot.
I hope Hickory Dickory makes it through, he's an adorable little guy ❤🖤❤🖤
He squeaks around the dummy! That is utterly adorable!! 💗💗💗 Also, love the banter between you two! 💗🤣
Thank you for saving the baby. You do so much for the batties.
He looks healthy. Here's hoping he makes it.
RIP Mum. 😪 Such sad little cries...sweet darling boy.
🙏💜🙏
Meg, I have always enjoyed and collected whimsical and esoteric words, but I have never before encountered “afflatus,” a gem. Sounds like Maggie got it right, a “brain fart.” Since it is supposed to come from a god, make that a divine brain fart.
Little Hickory Dickory is a delight regardless of name source. So glad he is doing well after his traumatic loss of his mother.
Beautiful blonde baby., you ladies are great ! Have a blessed day. Love from ny
They are so beautiful in their healthiness. Little tykes.
These moments between you and Maggie absolutely crack me up. Between that, and the cuteness of baby bats, it's like the perfect video.
Language lessons with meg n mag.
I am glad to see that mom and I are not the only ones who have giggle fits.
Independent little chap crawling off mom to hunting for food! Hopefully his independence means he will be a long time survivor.
He wasn't looking for food, he was trying to figure out what had happened to his ordered and loving life.
I absolutely adore the sense of humour you gals share!!! Without that, everything you deal with would be so much more difficult! I love you both!! Thank goodness for your souls!
Poor little boy has been traumatized. I hope he overcomes this and grows up to be a happy healthy young man.
I had to look your word up for divine inspiration and makes me wonder if that is where the other word came from. Yay for Hickory Dickory , Maggie and Meg!
He is indeed ridiculously cute!
Yayyy another survivor! Both you and Maggie are hysterical good to see friends joking and teasing each other.. hoping little Hickory grows strong and becomes a big macho battie and makes lots of babies..👍 ❤️🦇🦇🦇🦇
je pense que vous étes un gardien de ce petites merveilles nous avons tous une mission sur cette terre merci a vous
I may not want to handle Meg or Maggie but I sure want to join them in aperitifs. Cheers
I am still stunned at the reaction of people towards bats! But then that's probably been instilled in them from media
Little Hickory Dickory❤️❤️❤️🍼
Wow I didn't think I'd be learning a new English word at my age, thank you
The language is rich with unexpected words describing things possibly best left undescribed.
I know, there are often very bad and sad moments. This is life. But this nice moments give power for doing this hard job. You all have my biggest respekt
Hickory Dickory Is A Children's Nursery Rhyme!
It’s just so amazing how you both are adorable when you’re babysitting
Batsitting would be a better term... LOL
Batsitting a pup.🥴 Go-figure.😁
@@petitepouliche8631 They are babies. So baby sitting is quite correct.
So cute how he looked in the window to have his picture taken ☺️
I love seeing your videos. Poor mum…What a darling! Thank you!!
I didn't know what afflatus meant either. Keep them coming Meg! Enlighten us.
I love the language and the secret little forgotten or obscure words.
Hickory Dickory Dock. Fledermaus ran up the clock.
You girls are wonderful, so funny and loving to the batties!
You two make me laugh. That little boy is absolutely adorable!
You and Maggie are such a hoot when your having your 4:00 cocktails or “pairs of teeth”
We're always a hoot; we crack ourselves up.
I love it when you and Maggie burst into giggles, lol! Thanks for sharing some joy along with the bats. 😂💖
Oh my goodness, what an absolute cutie. Love those big eyes and his little whimpers were adorable! What a determined little man to leave his mom and start off on his own. Was her milk gone? Usually they they are still on mom...they might be fussy but they stick with her. 💜😍
She was dry, so he went looking for some explanation for how his life had changed.
He sure is a handsome little survivor! You two are so funny, thank you for the smiles!
Love that Maggie. You two must have a lot of fun together.
Another adorable survivor. Aperitifs sounded to me like you were saying, ' a pair of teats,' so this isn't too far out there really.
Hickory Dickory looks to be mostly a tan all over. I may have glimpsed a red ruff, but I’m uncertain. Anyways, he looks extremely comfortable and loved. So glad you all could have your aperitif, regardless of Seri!
You girls are so silly. 🤣 💜😅
You know, I often start my day by watching your rescues. That is because it is nice to have an example of rational kindness like you to get inspired and set my mind to making the world a better place, too. Thank you so much for sharing your work and that awesome vibe! :))
Thanks Woodpecker
@@Megabattie :D
You guys crack me up!! Too funny! Hickory is gorgeous. Thank God those little batties have you guys. =)
Hickory Dickory Dock is, hopefully, another survivor, gong to grow up and make many battie babies. Thanks to Meg and Meggie, the Batty Dream Team.
The lost dummy reminded me of the dog's lost allergy pill. Said pill was on the breakfast bar whilst I was unwrapping cheese to hide it in. Little cat heard the crinkle, and one never to miss a treat, jumped onto the bar top and dislodged the pill. I looked *everywhere*, stood on my head to check under cabinets and chairs. No pill. I swept the floors in all the corners and crevices. No pill! Then my phone in my pocket dinged. When I reached to get it, there was the pill. How the little cat managed to flip it exactly into my pocket is unknown. But cats are sneaky like that. Hickory Dickory is adorable!!!
sweetest of all fuzzy sky-puppies....
What a fun episode it turned out to be, after such a rough start.
At least the baby seems fine. Best of luck to him.
I love these little batties so much 💗 I also just ADORE you and Maggie together ❤ 💖
awww he is just adorable. such sweet little faces....learned a new word too. awww i love their little voices.....so cute.. even when mad.
Oh he is absolutely gorgeous
Lol! You and Maggie giggling... Maggie tries so hard to be a mature "adult"... But her impish side wins out every time! 😂😂😂 That's I think the first "cranky" baby I've heard... Had a very Walter-like what for vocalizations. Loved it as he started squeaking, talking to his blinky (as my mother called it). Thanks for the video, and do keep up the wild antics of you and Maggie(but she needs a mic so I can hear her quips better...) 😂😂😂
Poor little darling; he's been through so very much in such a short life..but his life has just turned a corner, thanks to you, Meg
Aww babba all be ok u in safe hands.sorry about mum.
You and Maggie crack me up as much as you do each other. Hickory is a beautiful little boy. He seems so contented curled up on Maggie’s breast. I’m glad to hear they are all doing well in their time of loss and change.🥂🖤🇨🇦
"Bring a pair of teeth" - my husband and I always played 'Oh, I thought you said...' and laughed til we cried. Maggie's divine brain fart was a worthy definition, too. He would have loved this whole exchange. Thanks for being you. 💕
I'm sorry he's not still around to enjoy it.
@@Megabattie He was one of a kind. Word games were one of our favorite pastimes, which led to our eating 'sconces' forever after his sister proudly showed us a pair of 'scones' she had installed over her buffet.
A colleague and I played, too; travertine marble permanently became 'travestine' after a contractor so described it when we visited a work site.
@@chezmoi42 When my sister was little she would put her cardigon and take her cardigoff. It became a family thing. And there was the quiddity factor - carrying heavy or awkward things around - you added in the quiddity factor (awkwardity).
My gosh he so cute. I hope he's doing well. ❤
You guys rock my soul. Love the video when you 2 are joking around while rocking a bat to 😴. P.S. that lady should of come out of her house. Who couldn't resist a batty babe?!?
she was old, scared and nearly deaf. She did well and called for help. That's enough.
@@Megabattie true that👍
I just love the bantering back and forth…….👍🦇❤️🎃Very Funny🤣
He is sooo darling. Maggie, sweet Maggie cuddling with him is to cute..the two of you are hilarious. I ended up laughing, thank you.
Amazing, they must know by now that Megabattie is on the case, thank you Meg.🇨🇦🦇🍁🐘🧡🤗
Meg and Maggie, if you ever release a comedy CD, I am buying it! 🥂 for another survivor, Hickory!
You two ladies are so funny......❤❤
Best of luck to the handsome boy!
I just love these adorable, flooffy little creatures with big, spidery feet. Nothing could be cuter!
I thought it was a fart too Maggie
What a little cuddlebunny he is. Glad to hear he did well! Love seeing you & Maggie farting around happily. Tell her I love her batty shirt too. 😂
You two are a hoot!
Yes my battie bedtime fix, 23.23 here , then it's the zzzzzs xx
Yea a survivor! Ok...I had to go to the dictionary to get the definition of "afflatus" before you graciously enlighten Maggie. I also enjoyed a trip down memory lane when it was imperative that I accurately document my patients poo status as a floor nurse.
Well yes, I was a human nurse once upon a time, beginning in a nursing home when I was still at school, and being asked to fill in the bowel chart...
Wish we could see more of the battle mums w their little bubbies, too!!!
Laaaaaadys I love your conversation. The little bat boy ist adorible .😊🇩🇪🦇
This was a really cute video. Hickory seems like he's doing well. Maggie has a way with the bats. They always seem to love her touch, cradling, stroking and love. This one was very content "hanging" out with her. Poor mommy. She was fried by the wires. This seems to happen a lot. Thank heavens for both of you loving these sweet little creatures ❤. People are afraid of them and no one would bother to save them.
It happens a lot in baby season.
The wires are gradually being buried, with all new developments having underground power infrastructure. There are hundreds of thousands of kilometres of above ground lines in Sydney alone. It takes a long time to bury the existing system. The energy company workers tell me it will take at least 20 years.
@@Megabattie 😔
You make this look fun! And this time it was, hopefully all this coming batty season will be.😍
You both made my day. I was laughing with you
YAY I found another video I haven't watched!👍 It's 06/08/24 and I hope you're doing well today Meg.💕 I love seeing you with Maggie.😍🤩💕 Baby Hickory Dickory is sooooo gorgeous!!🩶🦇🤗💕💕🥰
