Fun fact while the beams themselves don't have any heat. If channeled hard enough on impact the beams can create a bit of heat on the surface it hit which is why in the movies you see scrotch marks but no actual flames due to the beams not having any heat to begin with.
You actually do see fire from the beams in the X-men Origins Wolverine movie where Sabertooth chases him through the school and he destroys the entire building

The comics made this statement years ago. Cyclops’ power is energy manipulation like his two brothers. The differences between the three are degrees of control and where the power manifests. Scott and Alex (Havok) absorb cosmic energy and then redirect it. The older brother, Gabriel, can actually manipulate energy to make force fields and fly and such.

For Scott, his power activated when the parachute he shared with his brother caught fire as the plane they were on with their parents was burning. He used his power to slow their fall but sustained a traumatic brain injury that prevents him from controlling his power.
